Two Days in a ROW!!!
Okay, so this morning it took about an hour to clean out the garage and organize the camping gear. Even went so far as to set up the spare tackle box for singular fishing. I'll still have to carry a back-pack of things so I'm not sure that it makes sense to set it up yet. I was going to go ride my bicycle but, oh, no-- its raining! Then, I thought about going fishing but, no, its raining so I won't be doing that either! I'm not happy!
Just finished viewing all of "Meet Joe Black". I've seen it in bits before but never all at one sitting. Is it me (and my deaf ear) or is that movie badly mixed? Brian and I decided that it may have played differently in the theatre where you have different speakers (one of a dozen or so) where the violins are crescendo-ing so you can hear the dialogue. Not good in video/cable though-- couldn't hear crucial bits of dialogue even with the volume blaring!
So, I'm now bored completely and passing it on to you, my faithful reader.
Alas and Hark! Tomorrow is another day and a new one at that-- a new start to the work week and what lies at the end of that? FISHING!!!
Saturday, May 13, 2000Nuttin' much . . .
It has been fairly boring and quiet around here today. I went to get my pedicure and nails and hair-trim today but didn't end up getting the last. By the time I left there, I decided I had too much caffeine-- I've really cut back since the Year+ ago when I had my surgery-- I had another three cups of coffee at the salon and, apparently, that was too much for me to handle. I scrambled to eat something to counteract the shakes I had developed and then, true to form for a Saturday, layed down for a two hour nap. (Nope, so far, caffeine has not begun to "bother" me other than the shakes-- it has never kept me awake!)
But, between that and the fact that my back is still hurting from my fall the other night, I decided not to go fishing. Tomorrow I'll clean out the garage and organize the camping gear. It should be an interesting day of garage door wrestling-- the neighbor in the garage next to us is moving so we'll be haggling over who gets to have the door open!
Anyway, on that note, I'm going to find something for us to have for dinner. Have a good evening.
Friday, May 12, 2000Biz-ZY!!
Silly me!! Overnight I received emails from John Doucette and Barbara Thompson among others. I forwarded them to my Yahoo! account thinking that I'd get some time during the day to write back to them and start my update for tonight. Hah!, I tell you-- HAH!! So my apologies to everyone who expected to and otherwise would've ordinarily received emails from me today-- Man, was I busy!! I've got deals being changed at the end of the negotiation (and not for the better!) by the people who thought the deal should change "just because". (FYI: this is NOT a sufficient reason!) New stuff coming in and old stuff still hanging around but, there were also a couple of things that got settled and signed today-- always a good thing. I've brought some work home over the weekend-- I'm actually looking forward to it, too!
Weekend Plans?
I am actually pretty unplanned for this weekend-- I've got to get my hair cut and nails done and my pedicure tomorrow. I need to get started on sorting out the garage-- which will probably take up the vast majority of one day or another. I actualy may not get any "fun" stuff in-- or I could go check to see what the fishing is like on Saturday afternoon! Ya never know, do you? ;>)
See YA!
Thursday, May 11, 2000Accidental Update
Yes, my knee is pretty badly skinned up and it is in process of not being very pretty-- its quite successful at that, actually. My right leg has a bruise from where it rammed into the inside of my bike when I went down and, as an extra bonus this morning, I woke up with a jarring backache!! I hadn't realized that I'd jarred myself that hard from the fall but my entire left side was in a great deal of pain when I got out of bed this morning. No, I did not go for a bike ride tonight (I will tomorrow night, probably) but I will be taking a long hot soak later on this evening!
Seminar Done
Tomorrow is a back-to-regular-work day for me-- it'll probably feel like another Monday. I do miss my routine and being at the office and the rigors of that routine. I only had two voicemails today and seven emails so that means tomorrow will be intense-- they're all waiting for me to get in the office!
**********
And with that said, there's really nothing else to report-- my regular life has been interrupted and, unfortunately, that is reflected everywhere.
Have a good night-- the routine will return shortly.
Wednesday, May 10, 2000Things Missed
In case you may have missed it last night, I had an update later on in the night-- I only draw your attention to it because there's a cool picture there!
The Inevitable Has Happened
You can't put a putz like me on a bicycle and not expect that it will happen at some point: yes, I fell while on my bike tonight. I was trying to use a driveway to get on the sidewalk and, unfortunately, there is about a 3-inch lip from the street to the driveway that my tires don't like. Not fun! I've got a skinned knee and I'll probably end up with a bruise on the other leg but, other than that, I'm in one piece. It certainly isn't as bad as it could've been!! Besides that as a negative, I am seeing the difference in this exercise and, even though I didn't go very far-- more for time than the cold (it is SOOO cold tonight!!) and the wind (there are some major gusts happening out there!!) so I'm not likely to stop anytime soon.
The Seminar
The seminar ("Communicating For Results") is going well so far-- I made the mistake of checking my voicemail at the 10:00 break. By 10:00, I had five voicemail messages-- I was feeling a little panicked but managed to go back and concentrate on the seminar. Interesting concepts, etc., being discussed. The "homework" for the night was to go home and observe communication patterns-- I can't tell people about this place!! ;>) Who would understand??
**********
Auction night again and then there's trying to figure out what to do about my knee . . . bandage or no bandage? I won't be able to wear pantyhose for about a week . . . me? Why ME? ARGH!!!!

(Update!)Odds-n-Ends
How about that? Tuesday night and I'm already reduced to odds-n-ends!! Okay and your point is? Yeah, I thought so!!
Today was spent cleaning up "stuff" and getting my files ready to kidnap from the office for two days-- tomorrow and Thursday's post may be sporadic and minimal (or the exact opposite) because of being in the seminar for the next two days. The only "spectacular" things were that John, the AVP that said nice things to me last week is also saying nice things about me-- to my management, and yes, that's someone who counts! Apparently, he's been very vocal about how he likes my work. Could there be a transfer to Atlanta in our future?
Speaking of travel, in July we're going to be going to a hotel somewhere in Arizona (Scottsdale or Phoenix) for three days of 15-hour meetings-- sounds like fun, eh? Yeah, I know-- I can hardly wait. The heat of Arizona in July-- the last thing I'd like to be doing is sitting in meetings but more so, I'd rather not go to Arizona in July!!
My advice has been that they need to change the January meeting from San Francisco (during the rainy season) with the July meeting in Arizona. Then maybe it would be easier to deal with! Who was I advising? The marketing personnel picking locations as I reviewed the agreements with the hotels!! I was really trying to get them to think about weather conditions and climate but, to no avail!
I went for a bike ride tonight but, much to my chagrin, I can't tell you how far I went because, unbeknownst to me, there's a dying battery in the odometer! I didn't even know that there was a battery in it-- I have no idea how to shut it off-- I thought it was solar powered! I went farther, I think but, for the next ten days, I'm going to have to modify my route because of street resurfacing that's happening on one of the streets I use the most. I'll figure something out-- its a big neighborhood!
One of the "How-To" PBS stations (KTEH) that we watch is having its annual auction for the next two weeks. The deals are phenominal but, I'm really only looking for new luggage-- I'd love to get a quality 5-piece set for sub-$200!! I've seen things go that low but I don't know if they even have any luggage on the auction list this year.
Oh, well, perhaps I should go watch it for awhile? Yeah, that's the ticket!!
Have a good night!
So many things to remember . . . so many things that I apparently can easily forget! ARGH!!! I'm going to start writing notes . . . now, where did I put that notepad?
First of all, for those other than of the Daynotes Gang and those associated readers, everyone needs to know that Shelley Bowman came out of her surgery with flying colors. My sister, Sue, had the same surgery a little over a year ago, as I told Dan. Sue was shopping a day or two after the surgery, too, I believe. Maybe its something about the surgery? At the time, I attributed it to the fact that Wal-Mart didn't have a store in Sao Paulo but, I could be wrong . . . makes you wonder, doesn't it?
At any rate, Shelley's successful surgery and speedy recovery is certainly a wonderful bit of good news!!
Also, remember me telling you about my friend and nail technician, Linda getting her very own Harley-Davidson? Well, after passing her CHP class, Linda posed for a picture she said I could post for all of you! They've made a few modifications to it: shorter shocks have been issued so that she commands the bike, not vice versa, and there's something about a propeller that's not out of production and on the bike yet. Some new pipes will go on it eventually but, anything they do will only be a minimal improvement-- no accessory can surpass the smile Linda wears when riding. (BTW, she's never ridden a bike before so she's also smart: in addition to taking the class (which she recommends HIGHLY) from the CHP, she's taking it easier on city streets, learning control, turns, etc., before hitting the freeways-- smart lady, huh? Of course she is: I've only got SMART friends!!)
That is all for now-- I wanted to post those two bits before too much time passed-- they were pretty important, I think!
Monday, May 8, 2000Just a reminder: Shelley, Dan Bowman's wife is having surgery today-- send warm thoughts and many prayers for her for a safe surgery and speedy recovery! Take care, Shelley!!
Plans for the week . . .
. . . include a two-day seminar that I'm looking forward to, if only cuz it gets me out of the office for two days. Nah, I'm joking! Its a communication seminar for negotiating professionals-- sounds interesting, eh? Oh, yeah! Also at some point during this week, or next at the latest, I've gotta get some blood tests drawn for a physical. I just love this, too, don'tcha know? Poking and prodding . . . where did that silly vein go?
Spring/Summer in NorCal?
Its been raining here since late Saturday evening. This is weird!! One of the weird parts is that it didn't occur to me that I couldn't ride bicycle in it until Sunday afternoon. On Sunday morning I kept thinking: "Oh, I'll ride bike this afternoon-- yes, I'll ride bike after I get home from the movie." And, then, I remembered: No, I can't ride bike in the RAIN!!! ARGH!!! What is this stuff doing here? Today seems to be a bit nicer day-- at least the rain appears to have stopped . . . for the moment. I've now been off of my bike for three days and I don't want to think about how long its going to take me to get back up to 7 miles again!! ARGH!!! Rain is getting to be just like snow was in Michigan!!!
More Business Annoyances
Remember a few months back that I told you about two guys in my office: one couldn't spell and the other couldn't speak? Well, the non-speller is missing in action. I'm not sure but I think he was injured, working on the loading dock, and that's the last he's been seen-- not a good reason but, maybe we'll get lucky and he'll read a dictionary in his time off. Hey, it could happen!!
The Mumbler has, fortunately, been replaced with an individual who has the attention span of a flea. She asks a question and before the first ten words are out of your mouth to give her the answer, she interrupts you (herself) to talk with someone else. Its not like someone else is interrupting you when you try to tell her something-- she interrupts you herself! Cuts out the middle man and somehow saves time, I suppose.
I tried several times to answer a question she was asking and after the third interruption, told her to call when she had time to listen. (Sorry, I don't have time to be patient or polite-- life is tooooo short!) About five minutes later, she called to ask the question again and I gave her the answer-- again. I gave the answer to her when I was standing in front of her but because she was sooo busy interrupting us, she didn't listen or pay attention to what I was saying. Let's see how long she remembers the answer-- its that "short attention span" thang.
I'd like to say that her characteristics are typical of those of a young person but, she's not young. In fact, I'd sooner attribute the attention span problems to that of an older person. Then, again, she's trying to go from temp to perm and I know how stressful that can be-- yes, I'm trying to be "nice" and cut her some slack by making up explanations for her incredibly bizarre behavior-- I do that, tho.
I make up things . . . try to fill in the blanks and make myself and those around me feel better. No, it doesn't work half the time but it is fun!
Make Up Things?
Yes, its an imagination-thang, I think. Brian and I were tooling down Highway 17 last summer and there were these four guys-- three youngish and one a father-type in a red Mustang convertible. I had this whole thing going where the dad was treating his son and two friends to a day at the beach and cruising time in a cool car that the dad had rented. He was going to pull the car to the curb at Zelda's in Capitola and tell the kid to cruise the circuit with his friends while the dad had a cappuccino at Mr. Toots. Brian just looked at me like I was from Mars . . . Well, DAH!!
For those of you, my faithful readers, who show up as "Unrecognized/Unknown" in my monthly statistics, even though I have hundreds of URLs in the "webalizer", I make up all kinds of stories about who you are and what you are doing reading me and how you got to my website and what you do for a living or how many kids you have or if your imagination is as strange as mine. Thankfully, some of you also write which shows that there are lots of you who understand me. ;>)
The fun part is that it is contagious. I've now got Brian doing the same thing-- he's not as good at it yet but, he is working on it and improving day-by-day.
**********
For now, that's all there is-- may be more later. My stomach's a bit funky tonight so I don't know what and can't say what's on the agenda.
