Wild Week!!

Man, it has been a wild week, indeed!  As noted previously on these pages, I started my new job on Monday and spent most of the time that day getting settled and learning how to use some of my new toys.  Tuesday was spent mostly in meetings, which was a good thing (believe it or not!).  The finance and accounting people were in from Europe and other international locales and, various and sundry departments and groups were making presentations to describe the functionality of the company as well as the "way things are done" around the company.  I was excited to be able to be a part of something so early on in my tenure-- you don't usually get to get that kind of grass-roots knowledge until you've been with the company for two years and don't need to learn the knowledge because you've already managed to acquire it!

As I was leaving last night, I noted with glee that I was picking up one, two, four, five contract folders to bring home to work on over the weekend and I felt a strange sensation-- ah, yes, I remember it well . . . a smile on my face . . . Work, glorious work!!  Yes, I really am enjoying my new job!!

It has begun . . .

If you are a wanderer of the website belonging to my husband, Brian, you will have read that he mentions that in very short order, the preparations for Christmas tree assembly are on the verge of happening in our apartment-- in some cases, already completed!  For years this poor guy did exactly as he described-- bought all of his Christmas presents on December 24.  Last year, as a couple, we had our Christmas shopping done by around December 3 or 4 and, his shopping for my present was reluctantly completed by December 9.  I remember the night he came home and wrapped my last present: He came in and remanded me to the patio for a half-hour (it wasn't cold outside-- its California!); when he was finished, there were a couple of new packages (neatly wrapped) under the tree.  He stood, staring at the tree and telling me it was safe for me to return.

When I came back in, he continued to stare at the tree so I asked him what was wrong.  His response was: "Me-- how did I let this happen?"  Not understanding the motivating force behind his question, I looked at the tree for a reflective Christmas ornament and said, "What's wrong, honey?  What's happened?"  "I'm finished with my shopping on December 9-- I never used to even think about going shopping for Christmas presents until December 23 at the earliest.  Now, I'm finished on December 9!!"

"Oh, is that all?"  I smirked as I started to walk toward the kitchen to serve the dinner that had been waiting for him to return from his shopping adventure.  "Honey, you're married and organized now-- that's the difference."

The worst part about the whole scenario is, we finished our Christmas shopping for other people last Saturday, November 13.  I don't think he's realized that we're even earlier yet this year . . . I almost hate to be the one to tell him!
