(Update at 10:05pm)So much time, so little to do!
Strike that-- reverse it!! ARGH!!! The office is going crazy with so much work to do-- of course, I'm loving it cuz I enjoy being busy but there are others . . . anyway, everyone has their seatbelts fastened cuz it is going to be a bumpy ride to the end of the quarter!!! Yowza, this sure is fun!!!
Then, of course, there's the camping/fishing trip which I am chomping at the bit to get started on. I want to set the alarm for our "usual" time but Brian wants to wake up "whenever we wake up". Yeesh!! Get me to that fishing hole!!!
I have my clothes to pack, the food to pack and organize in the fridge/freezer so that we can grab it in the morning and a last minute grocery store run that Brian is going to make later on this evening. There just isn't enough time in the day for what I want to do; on the other hand, there's too much time today cuz I want it to be tomorrow. What a dillema!!
Before I depart or until later this evening, I want to thank ya'll for coming around-- here we are in the middle of the month and I'm more than half-way to last month's stats. That means more of you are coming by and reading more pages and I have to tell ya, I appreciate it! Thanks!!
A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that my friend, Linda, would be having a surgery today. Good News: I just heard from her husband and followed that conversation with a quick chat with Linda, herself! She came through the surgery with flying colors although she's going to have to concede to staying in the hospital for a couple of days. Yippee!!!

It may also be all for the weekend. I'm not sure as to whether or not I'll have time for a post in the morning but, if I don't, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Of course, you can look for another trip report here a day or two after we're back.

Thursday, September 14, 2000Oh, Really?
As a follow-up from yesterday's negotiation, I contacted the woman with whom I've been dealing in regard to the indemnification issue that I mentioned yesterday. This woman has been most difficult and, while I've done my best to respond to her needs, I haven't been able to meet all of the needs of her company. Today, I was told by her that I was the "most cooperative, friendly and flexible person" she's ever dealt with on a contract. I figure I must be the second deal she did and the other one fell through because they wouldn't cave into her silly requests! I cannot believe some people, some times! I haven't been able to give in to everything she wanted and she asked for some pretty silly things which I came "this close" to telling her a couple of times so . . . yes, I was surprised by the compliment and, yes, I told my co-workers-- they've been hearing me gripe about this customer all week so it only figures.
Tonight . . .
. . . there's more getting ready for the trip to do and other things and then there are some new DVDs to watch. First, I have to make dinner: a zucchini/burger casserole.

Because of the kind of day that I had, this is going to end up being a kind of odds-n-ends kind of post:
1. BUSY at work-- just the way that I like it!! A meeting at 10, a conference call at 12:30 and another meeting at 1:30. Where's my desk? Who knows!! By the time that I get through with all of that, I am appropriately buried by too much work to do but it is a great feeling!!
2. Conference Call: The conference call was with a customer who is trying desperately to make the deal a whole lot more complicated than it really has to be. She wants language added to the infringement indemnification language that will work out how the attorneys will be paid if there is a litigation as a result of an infringement claim. Excuse me? That is not my problem-- I'm here to license the software. Let the attorneys argue that one when and if the time comes for it. We will not be going into that detail in this agreement. I'm thoroughly disgusted with the customer and the sales rep is ready to walk on the deal. Its got a pretty hefty price tag on it so I won't let him do it but, it feels good to know that he's backing me up on this situation.
3. Socket Set: This afternoon, on his way home from work, Brian stopped and got a socket set to fix my bike. It is a 55-piece set because we don't have any and, frankly, I've often thought we should have one. My bicycle is now fixed and, tomorrow afternoon I'll be able to go for a ride again. I didn't have time tonight with my running around (See Item #4 Below) and my chat with my sister.
4. Fishing Stuff: This evening, after work, I again stopped at Fishermen's Warehouse; I've mentioned this store before and I have to tell you: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. They are familiar with all of the current fishing conditions throughout the Bay Area so, if this is where YOU live, stop by and see them!!
They set us up with wide-mouth bass fishing frogs and plastic worms. Interestingly enough, Brian can do his favorite thing: ignore his fishing rod and simultaneously fish at the same time! He's one happy camper right now! The plastic worms get tossed it, automatically sink and then, you just wiggle 'em every once in awhile to make the fish think they're alive. My sister, Karen, also an expert fisherperson, suggests using WD40 as a means by which to lure the fish to the worm. Intriguing enough thought for me that I'm willing to try it at least once!
My second (oldest) rod is now set up with 20-pound test to be able to get through the plants and reeds while towing a fish that has nailed one of the plastic frogs that I'm using for bait and "hopping" through the foliage. That one should be interesting as well.

Anyway, with all of that and trying to get ahold of my sister, Sue and her husband, Bill, before they leave for Brazil, my evening is pretty fully planned. I'm going to see if the PBS stuff on "How To" night are re-runs and, if they are, I may watch the new DVD of "The Sound of Music" that I recently bought. Its either that or "Braveheart". Hmmmm . . .**********
Brian and I have said good-bye to my sister now. I told Brian to call Tom back but his response was along the lines of "He's had a hard day, I'm sure its too late to call . . . " I have to admit, I'm having a hard time fighting the temptation to call anyway. An hour is only an hour is only an hour but, in Tom's present condition, after working all day, I'm tempted.
Payback's a . . . well, you know, don't you, Tom?
Brian isn't the only deranged one here!
Tuesday, September 12, 2000Busy Times Ahead!
I remember checking everyone's web pages early this morning and that's the last thing I remember! My day from there was a blur-- and it went by really quickly that way which is the way that I like it. The bad part is that I can't remember anything significant to tell you about-- that's boring, eh? Sorry!
Bicycle Blues
Once again, I am having to go to the hardware store to get a set of tools to fix my bike. Tonight the pedal fell off-- literally!!! Makes for an interesting means of transport, let me tell ya. People tend to look at you two way: 1) they are trying desperately not to laugh as you carry your pedal and walk your bike; or 2) a look of such sorrow and pity that it makes you want to crawl into the gutter while you walk your bike and carry the pedal. I only had to walk abut a half mile but it was long enough-- my leg muscles didn't like it after having bicycle for such a long distance already. I actually got going down the slight grade on Bernardo Avenue at 20.4mph!! WOW!! I was flying down that slope!! Brian teases me saying that we live in a flat spot but, since I have to pedal up the grade, I can tell ya that there is a grade that I can fly down if I try hard enough!!
Miscellaneous Things
I've got a few things to do tonight like do some stuff on my sister's website again-- because they are leaving in a few days, there are things happening that either need to be posted or updated frequently. I've also got a bit more ironing to do and I haven't had a bubble bath in weeks-- no time or rest for the weary, don'tcha know? Except . . . maybe tonight . . .
Monday, September 11, 2000Whoops!
I meant to come back last night, I really did! However, as has been the case fairly frequently of late, our PBI connection was tenuous and, well . . . what was the point of writing an update if I wouldn't be able to publish it at some point? See? So that's what happened . . .
You didn't miss much: At last report, I went shopping with Pat; she bought clothes and I bought an apple corer. Life is good . . . but you knew that, eh?
Not so Bad!
Well, it could be worse (and probably will be!)-- the traffic in the department varies from one minute to the next. I made up about 7 memos for signature covers on documents today-- that's pretty high for one day's worth of work. By the same token, I had time to do some web surfing to find the answer to questions about fishing next weekend at Clear Lake.
In other fishing news . . . the lake where I usually go fishing, Lake Chabot, is going to start re-stocking trout this week!! That's good news-- I'm tired of waiting for trout fishing!! If they're stocking there, the stocking will start at the fishing hole down the street fairly soon, too. It is cool enough here but, it is supposed to be in the 90s at Clear Lake this weekend-- oh, joy! Camping is supposed to be for fires and cool temperatures-- I don't like it when its hot!! Oh, well, we'll just have to plan for all weather possibilities and I'll keep an eye on the temperature/weather website I found today.
Good-Byes Near and Far
Our neighbors across the way, Marko and Christina are leaving for Finland tomorrow!! They are really a nice couple and we will miss hearing them giggle with each other and with us-- maybe they'll be back someday. We've exchanged email addresses and there is always hope that Brian and I will make it to Europe one day so . . . you never know-- we could see them again real soon!
That was the near good-bye but the far good-bye is my sister, Sue and her husband. They will be leaving for Brazil again on Friday; they've sent me a special message to put up on their website and we will call them either Wednesday or Thursday night to say good-bye. It will be hard to say good-bye even though we've just seen them. They will be back every Christmas which means we'll have to venture into Michigan in the winter one time over the next four years but, it will be worth it to see them and the rest of my family.
It'll be a sad week but we'll muddle through just like we always do . . .
