A Fitting Close
'Tis the end of the weekend and we'll all be back at work for the rest of the year with nary a day or so off 'til its over. Yeesh!! That's like six or seven weeks away, isn't it? Why does it always seem longer than it really is in reality just because you know its gonna be rough? I've got end-o-month this week and, in another two weeks after that, my sister and her husband will be visiting. I guess the rest of the year is broken up a bit, eh?
The packages are almost all packaged up-- ran out of boxes for the shipping on three but the rest of them are going to be leaving soon, hopefully tomorrow. Well, at least I'll get a good start on them tomorrow.
The dining room is back to the way its supposed to be for me to be able to sew so I'll be starting the last gift to be made as soon as I can get all of the fabric ironed. Should be tons-o-fun to make-- I'm looking forward to it.
Hope you have a great start to the new work week-- it'll be hard but we'll all get through it. Have a nice evening!
Saturday, November 24, 2001All but Three
Yep, I'm all finished except for the last three people from my office and, the final gift-wrapping for gifts that are going to be mailed to various places. Yippeee!!!! This has been a Two Day Process and there are going to be about 20 boxes to be shipped when I'm done with everything. The most time consuming part of Christmas is the ornament wrap-up and, I'm thinking that next year, I'm going to be a lot more limited on where I send them. Yeesh!!! Forget about my tax dollar at work-- this is our postal dollar$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ at work!!! None of the boxes are addressed yet, outside of the individual names-- yes, I did remember to do that!! So that'll take up the rest of my day tomorrow and then, I'll be bringing them, bit by bit, to the U.S.Post Office to get them sent off-- should be tons of fun, don'tcha think?
Other than that and a nap, I've done absolutely nothing today-- okay, I take that back: we made a stock from the turkey carcases (half for light and half for dark). I started the vegetables and the bones and Brian finished it up and cleaned everything out and boiled everything down or whatever. I don't know how to do any of it except starting it.
Oh, I take that back-- I just remembered I did laundry today, too. Not nearly as many loads as last week, even with the pre-washing of fabric for my class project. See, there's another thing I almost forgot: I went out picked up the final bits of fabric that were needed to finish out the gift that I need to make yet and, I bought myself a new sewing basket. I needed something that I could carry back-n-forth to my class. I guess I did more than I thought I did then, huh? I went to the grocery store, too-- I had to pick up the fixings for a turkey potpie and a sandwich for the neighbors returning home last night (The Girls parents returned from LasVegas).
Oh, well, they say that the mind's the first thing to go-- either mine's going or I lied and, since I never lie, it must be my mind.
For what's left of it, have a nice night and I'll catch you tomorrow at the other end of a day, okay?

Update at 8:37pmA Wonderful Time Was Had By All!!
Dinner went great-- the food was good (and its not just me saying that) and the company was wonderful!! We had a great Thanksgiving Day yesterday!! Brian watched while I kinda checked from the kitchen on the parade yesterday morning and then, after the turkey was in the oven, the zucchini shredded and the potatoes peeled, I layed down to rest my back a bit. That lasted about 15 minute before I started making other lists in my head of what had to be done before the family came so I decided to get up. (Brian had come in and rubbed my back a bit so that helped, too.)
There was enough food for an army of hungry Hungarians (but we forgot to invite them) so we have a refrigerator full of leftovers which are quite often the best part of the bird anyway! We sat around and chatted after having our wonderful pear/raspberry pie (nummy!) while Brian and his dad helped with dishes and hand-washing. Shortly, all too soon it seems, the company left and Brian finished the clean-up and carving of the bird. His sister called around 8pm and I talked with Robbie, their 2 year old a little bit-- he sounds so cute I can't wait to see them at Christmas now!!
Anyway, speaking of Christmas, today I'll be sorting, wrapping and preparing for shipment the ornaments and other Christmas gifts. I'll take some pictures for posting after the holiday to my soon-to-be-started Christmas 2001 page.
It'll be a busy day but I may check in later-- have a great one!
. . . but thought I'd check in to update you on a couple of things: First, we've heard from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival people and our tickets for next season's trip have been secured and are really great seats!! Now, we're really getting excited about that trip!! The second thing to report is that there seems to be an increasing number of ornaments-- I could swear that I'm wrapping them up but I think that more and more appearing everytime I turn around! Whew!! This is turning into quite a project today, let me tell you!! I've got Brian's officemates done and about half of the internet friends covered-- many, many more packages to wrap and items to box!! Lots of fun and it is definitely starting to look like Christmas whether intentional or not!
Have a nice evening, what remains of it-- thanks for coming by and I hope you're enjoying your weekend!

We're having dinner here as I've mentioned before this past week-- I'm excited but not so much so that I didn't sleep. Thank goodness!! I got caught up on my much-needed rest yesterday afternoon by taking an hour's nap and when we went to bed at 10:30pm and getting up at 8am. I'm feeling much better and ready to face ol' Tom Turkey!!
We're having Brian's parents and his mother's sister (who is a vegetarian) and brother over for dinner in the late afternoon. We have a 23 pound turkey-- that's technically five for turkey. I've mentioned how much we love turkey leftovers, haven't I? Turkey stew, turkey soup, turkey pot pies, turkey ala Brian-- nummy!! I wait the whole year for this holiday-- you bet I'm gonna get a BIG bird!!!
Later this morning, we're going to go over and sit with The Girls (Jillie, the half-wolf, and Dora, the redheaded Irish Setter) to give them some company. They're really cute and starving for attention since no one is there these days with them at all.
Have a wonderful, healthful and safe holiday!!
Wednesday, November 21, 2001READY for the Weekend!!!
I ended up being able to leave work by about 12:30 or so today-- a welcome relief upon entering the office at 7:45 and finding 6 voicemail messages waiting!! I couldn't believe that-- I never get 6 voicemail messages!!!! Luckily, I was able to finish everything and, headed off to the store to register for a quilting class and buy the materials for the "Rail Fence" quilt that we're going to make. I bought a couple of books for reference materials and fabric for a Christmas gift project that I've yet to make before this year's Christmas!! Yes, its going to be a busy few weeks, isn't it?
**********
While this is a short post, I thought I'd share something that my manager, Judy, sent to me. Have a peaceful, prayerful evening and holiday-- stay save and have a nice evening!I am thankful for . . .
The partner who hogs the covers every night, because they're not out with someone else.
The child who is not cleaning his room, but is watching television, because that means he is at home and not on the streets.
For the taxes that I pay, because it means that I am employed.
For the mess to clean after a party, because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.
For the clothes that fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough to eat.
For my shadow that watches me work, because it means I am in the sunshine.
For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home.
For all the complaints I hear about the government, because it means that we have freedom of speech.
For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.
For my huge heating bill, because it means I am warm.
For the lady behind me in church that sings off key, because it means that I can hear.
For the pile of laundry and ironing, because it means I have clothes to wear.
For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been capable of working hard.
The alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, because it means that I am alive. And finally . . .
For too much e-mail, because it means i have friends who are thinking of me.
A very happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday to you and your family.
Tuesday, November 20, 2001Another Loss
I've been consistently losing at Weight Watchers now for about three or four weeks-- that's a Good Thing. The cool thing is that there are three or four people at work who are also going to meetings so we all encourage each other and compare notes, etc. That's really helpful!
Vacations!!
Its been a hard week at work this week-- the Northeast region has been a big part of my work which I wasn't counting on and, I've been busy enough with the Southeast!! Yeesh!! I'm gonna need a four-day weekend!!
Sneaky Look, Huh?
Well, since my bangs look pretty short already (I doubt that I just finished my latest haircut-- it was already done for me), my guess is that this was a time when I got caught eating dry oatmeal-- one of my childhood favorites-- I look guilty, don't I?
*********
As a result of my day, however, the bad news is that I'm fried and can't think of anything to tell you about in this post. That's sad, isn't it? Yep, I need a four-day weekend!!Have a nice evening and we'll see what trouble I can get into tomorrow night!
Monday, November 19, 2001Happy Anniversary!!
My sister, Karen and her husband, Ron, have been married thirty years today-- wow!! I don't think I've even known anyone for thirty years, let alone been married to someone that long!! Oh, well, I know someone now that I want to be married to for that long so I guess its about time we gave them a run for their money, huh, Honey?? Congrats, Karen & Ron!!!
Corrupted!!
Okay, I admit-- my cousin corrupted me!! (She'll be so proud, I'm sure!)
The entire time that my cousin was here, we probably went to three or four quilting stores in addition to at least three fabric stores. She would hint and I would stall and then, I finally started pulling fabrics together and, lo-n-behold, the bug had bitten me!
Brian made the comment the other day that one of our bedroom walls was rather bare-- I went out tonight and bought the fabric for my first wall-hanging quilt. Technically, for the most part, it matches the bedspread, curtains, valance, etc of our bedroom set but, the fabrics are a little different so the colors are a bit muted which is okay. This is my first quilting project so I'm probably going to take a class to build this one. In the meantime, I'm going to make something simple for my mother-in-law for Christmas that could be considered quilting to get my feet wet.
Ah, yes, Barb has corrupted yet another Dykstra . . . what is this world coming to?
You don't want to know!!
Never, ever start your day by getting your teeth cleaned!! Trust me on this one, okay? Not only was I that stupid but, in addition to getting my teeth cleaned at 8:30, it was a Monday so I turned out to have a really crappy day. Well, tomorrow is another day and hopefully, it won't be as bad.
Since I took off immediately following dinner to go to the fabric store, I now have dishes to do so I'd better get to it!
Have a nice evening!
