Just something quick . . .
I want to work on our wills a bit this afternoon before I take a nap so I thought I'd put up a quick post since I won't have time this evening. Yes, I'm already planning on taking a nap because I woke up at 6:30 this morning to the sounds of a couple of sawmills in our bedroom and couldn't get back to sleep-- not fun. I laid there for awhile hoping that all of the noise would go away but, unfortunately, it didn't so, yes, I will be having a nap this afternoon.
Brian went out to pick up some fresh steaks for dinner tonight but, since I forgot to have him pick up mushrooms and sour cream, I'll be going back out to get those two things after my nap. We're having Pat and Nathan over for dinner tonight-- it'll be good to see them!! It always seems like we go so long between visits!
This morning so far, I've finished the quilt-top for the "Baskets Full of Pansies" (or should I say "Posies"???) quilt-- I've got the borders to do yet but otherwise, it is finished and gorgeous!! I relly like the way that this one came out, especially after all of the hard work! The "on-point" feature is something I don't hope to do too often!!
Anyway, so that's it for me for today but that's better than last weekend, right?
I thought you'd agree-- have a great Saturday!!
Friday, June 21, 2002Happy Summer!!
Although it doesn't feel like it, it is finally summer. I say that based on the fact that it is approximately 70F which is more like Spring temperatures. I had the window in my office at home open for awhile this afternoon but had to close it because I just couldn't stand the cool breeze!! That's bad-- definitely for the first day of "Summer"!!
Weird Feeling
Last night I started working on our next major project here: creating wills, health directives and, ultimately, a living trust. Brian and I are a little concerned that with the upcoming cross-country trips and drives, if something happened to us, no one would know what to do to collect on life insurances, sell or pay off cars, etc. We decided to make up a set of documents that can get us through to Maryland and then, in Maryland, we'll make sure that we have things finalized more completely (at least as much as can be done until we buy a house).
I prepared my will last night as "practice" and learning to use the software. It is a weird feeling (I'll bet you wondered when that was going to get into this train of thought, didn't you-- no, mybrain isn't just chugging down the track going no where . . . at least, not right now!) to look at your own Last Will and Testament. We have people to talk with regarding executorships, etc. Trying to remember what we own and what we owe is another struggle-- especially for my present concentration level!!
Anyway, it should be fun to see how this proceeds-- we'll keep you posted as we progress through it. The good news is that you can revise the documents at any time so if something happens to me, Brian really does get "possession" of Sally instead of my friend, Nina. (I screwed that up, needless to say! I thought I'd never hear the end of that!)
Speaking of Sally . . .
Sally came to work with me today-- Auntie Nina insisted since it was "Take Your Dog To Work Day" today (the UK version is September 17 for those who would want to track that sort of thing). Sally, of course, behaved beautifully sleeping and snoring through much of the day. Auntie Nina took her for a walk once and I took her the other two times but, admittedly, I can't tell if she likes all of the petting from my officemates or not. On one hand, I know that she likes the attention but, on the other hand, there's the problem of people waking her up!! What to do, what to do, eh? She'll probably go with me a lot toward the end of July so that Brian is free to leave the garage and house open without fears of her walking down the sidewalk on her own. Everyone at the office will like it-- I just hope her snoring doesn't interfere with their concentration!!
This Weekend . . .
We have Pat & Nathan coming over tomorrow night for dinner and I've got some site work to do with pictures from our visit two weeks ago with Brian's family. (That is, after all, a part of California that we have to say goodbye to even if only for temporary periods of time.) Errands to run and sewing to do as always.
My Head Hurts!!
Yes, I'm tired from working all week but I'm actually talking about having to think so hard with putting this quilt-top together! Because its "on point", I have to think about what I'm doing when I put the blocks and triangles together. It is almost like work!! I've figured out a trick that seems to be helping so, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get back to it.
Thanks for coming by and have a nice night, okay?
Thursday, June 20, 2002Too Tired!!
I am definitely ready for a weekend-- its been a long hard week already!! I had physical therapy after working all day and, frankly, that makes for a very long day. I've only got two more sessions set up for next week and neither is with my regular therapist so I don't have any clue how they're going to go. Its also end of quarter next week which means that it will be wild on top of being therapeutic at physical therapy. I'll need that!!
Last night (Yes, I do exercise when I'm not at the therapist's!), I did my previously "usual" 30 minutes/6 miles ride! I was really happy about that and my knee wasn't overly tired by the end of it either. I did find out that I'm not supposed to be walking Sally though-- its a little too hard on my knee to be hitting the concrete sidewalks yet. Probably another month or so on that one!
*****
I'm going to cut this post a little short-- not much to talk about tonight, I guess. Tomorrow night, I'm going to catch a sale at Macy's and I've got to buy a pair of tan shorts. The last pair that I had was in my more than two years ago size and was way too big. I gave that pair away to Goodwill last year and need to replace them now. Tomorrow's post? We'll leave that to tomorrow, okay? Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening!
Wednesday, June 19, 2002So Much to Forget!!
Okay, before I forget what I want to tell you, I need to tell you two things: First, one of our own has a lovely new logo which has been uploaded for her; her hubby forwarded it to me last night that it has been finalized for production purposes. (Lovely, isn't it?) First the flashy name and now a new logo-- so much for her vanity being gone, eh? ;>) Just kidding, Shelley-- I really like the new logo!!
Second, remember a few weeks ago when I mentioned that I had another afghan to crochet? Well, I can now tell you what that was about: one of the women I work with, Debra (the Supervisor candidate's wife and my co-worker) is pregnant!! She's expecting their first child in December-- it was in the San Francisco Independent, along with a very favorable article for Candidate Sweet, so it must be fact!! ;>) Yes, we are all very happy for Debra and Michael-- "Little Sweetie" as we are call him/her now, will be a wonderful addition to that family!!
See What I Mean?
I've typed that, including looking for a link to the SFIndependent (to no avail) and have already forgotten everything else I was going to write about!! Man, I hate this, don't you? (Yeah, I'll bet you do, actually!)
Moving On . . .
. . . Yes, we'll all muddle through this, eh?
Anyway . . . I'm also in process of recording tapes for our cross-country drive. Brian and I have both got tape players in our cars and hate complete silence. While we will have "walkie-talkie" like things and our cell phones, we won't be talking as much as we could if we were in the same car. Sooooo, I've decided to make some tapes of our favorite music. Everything from Springsteen to Vivaldi and everything in between. Its kinda nice, actually cuz I get to listen to it as I'm taping it. Makes for good sewing music . . .
Speaking of Sewing . . .
Last night I said I was going to sew and then, decided I didn't want to sew. I got about 15 minutes away from that thought, felt guilty about it and started sewing. I finished the 9-patch blocks, and finished trimming all of the blocks to 8-1/2" squares. Now, I've got the half-blocks ready to start sewing everything together, on point, so it should be really interesting to see how that goes.
Before I do that, however, I need to go out and ride my bike for awhile so, that being the case, I'll bid you adieu . . . have a nice evening!
Tuesday, June 18, 2002Whew!!
Last night, I ended up in bed by 9pm!! On Sunday morning, Sally woke us up at 6:30am and, on Monday morning, she woke me up at 1:30am!!! I didn't get a lot of rest, needless to say so I was really tired and, especially after work all day yesterday!! Hopefully tonight, I'll get to get some sewing time in-- I' working the nine-patch block of the quilt for our other niece that was giving me so much trouble last month. That one hasn't gotten finished by itself (yet) so I thought I'd work on it and do the quilting on her brother's quilt in between. Sounds like a plan, doesn't it?
First Contact
Tonight, we've had our first contact with the realtor that's going to help us find a house in Maryland! I don't care about the cross-country move or driving there or anything else. My high anxiety comes from "Where are we going to live?" And "high anxiety" doesn't come close to describing the anxiousness that I feel and I'm working at containing myself!! ARGH!!! What I really want to do is jump out of my skin and scream: "WE NEED A HOUSE !!" but I'm actually controlling myself . . . well, sort of anyway.
I've explained to her that I'm extremely anxious about this and we talked for a bit tonight. Then, Brian and I talked when I got home from work and I sent her an email (6-points for those keeping track) of the things that we wanted, hinderances (Sally?), etc. I gave her the game plan of how we hope to move forward, etc. and, of course, thanked her in advance for dealing with me. Knowing the way that I am, I have to do that part with emphasis!!
Memory Loss
I'm suffering memory loss lately-- my concentration has improved but the rest of my mind has departed the planet. I think it has to do with being busy and juggling 98 things at the same time. Yeesh!! Its always something, ain't it? So, although there were other things that I was going to "talk" about here, when/if I remember them, I'll post them then and, if not, I'll post them when I do remember what I was going to say.
It is not old age, it is juggling. It is not old age, it is juggling. It is not old age, it is juggling. It is not old age, it is juggling. Cool mantra, eh?

Have a nice evening!
Monday, June 17, 2002Carnegie Hall
That's what it was-- I was practicing for Carnegie Hall. Okay, so I didn't post over the weekend but there wasn't anything all that exciting to tell you about. The "practice" part comes in the form of getting you, my loyal readers, ready for sporadic writings in July. Between getting ready to move, our vacation and the move, I've got a feeling that my postings are going to be very sparse (or maybe even non-existent) next month!!
What We Did On Our Weekend
Well, it wasn't our entire summer vacation-- just one weekend!! We went to our friends' house on Saturday night and had a nice time. Linda is not only my "nail technician" but also my friend. In the past, she has invited us over to their house on numerous occasions but, for one reason or another, we've never been able to go. This time, we were free and so we could go to their oldest daughter's high school graduation paty. We got to meet all of Tim & Linda's parents which is nice for me since I've been hearing about them for almost five years. Linda's sister and her kids were also there so I got to meet all of them and have good food and company in addition!
During the day Saturday, my time was consumed by getting my hair done (including a trim) and sewing on the quilt. On Sunday, I was able to finish it-- finally!! I washed and dried it last night so that I could bring it in to show people at work.
Other than that, there's not been much going on around here-- yet. Next month, now that's another story and, in the meantime, there's work and work and work!!
Physical Therapy ? ? ?
After Thursday, I have no more scheduled Physical Therapy appointments. I can still go there to work out and, because they have some equipment I don't have here, I probably will do that. I'm actually approved for two more sessions after Thursday but my therapist, Kristin, isn't available. The back-up therapist isn't available either which isn't a Good Thing. Testing my right knee against my left knee it is {almost} there but not quite so, I'll have to work it on my own then.
Not a problem-- I can do that!
*******
Now, that isn't all very much but, it is as much as my mind can handle for tonight. Thanks for stopping by and have a nice evening!
