What's worse?

Paying people to hurt you or hurting yourself??  Well, I would guess the latter having experienced it for myself this morning.  Yes, indeedy, folks-- I've done it again only this time I really did do it this time!

The master bath, with a shower stall only, is not convenient or condusive to shaving one's legs and, there are those of us who work in the real world where people do check these things (yes, I know: they are sick puppies but we don't tell them that to their faces!).  Trying to find a better way to skin the cat (okay, that's a bad play on words but...you get my point), I decided to try self-waxing this time.  Technically it works and it does hurt less, believe it or not, than when they do it but it is also extremely time consuming and frustrating.  I'm hoping that if I do it more than two or three times (and survive), I won't ever have to shave again, having pulled every hair follicle out of my legs.  Well, I can hope so anyway, okay?  Yeesh!!

Downhill from There

Yep, I'm afraid to say it: we're retreating into bull and doring and again.  There's a little cleaning on the agenda and a little errand-running but, that's about it.  Nothing terribly exciting, unless you count sorting my vitamins for the week in the "exciting" category of life.  If you do, please do some serious self-examination, okay?  Thanks.

Anyway, I'm outta here for now-- may be back later cuz you never know: something exciting could happen!!  Have a great day and I will catch you later.

Boring and Ordinary Day

Although that is difficult to admit sometimes, I did have a very boring and ordinary day.  First, we slept in again-- that is really nice, let me tell ya!  Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled my Palm program because I want to start using my Palm again.  I stopped carrying it for awhile but, between Sally's appointments and all of my appointments, my brain is getting too clogged up with stuff.  It would be much easier to just start using my Palm and planning things in the calendar in Outlook again.  Unfortunately, I still couldn't get it to work; when Brian came home, I mentioned that the cable wasn't working and then he told me about the USB disk that I hadn't installed.  Oh, well-- he fixed that for me later on and uninstalled and reinstalled the Palm program again and now it works.  Nifty!

I went to Sears which is in the mall up the street from where we live.  You know the mall: the one with the easy access to the expressway.  "They" (all of them-- the media and the police) say that a pattern of easy freeway escapes is one of the few consistencies that the sniper is showing.  Okay, fine but I still have to go to the mall to go to the Safeway (which is three right turns and a left turn before the expressway-- not an easy feat) and the rest of the mall from time to time.  The Sears store is at the far end of it so, adding to the complicated exit pattern s/he would have to follow, I parked at the back of the building.  There were about ten cars there total-- no one thinks to use the back lot which, frankly, I'm a grateful for these days.  There were fewer vehicles to check on my way out of the store.

I bought socks-- I am in dire need of socks, it seems-- and, while I was there a pair of pants and two tops jumped into my hands, too.  It is totally amazing to me that clothing can be so mobile upon occasion.  Anyway, from there, I had to go to the Safeway to get a prescription filled and to get a flu shot.  I didn't get one last year because the vaccine was in short supply and, while I didn't get sick, I don't want to take the chance.

After that, I came home and, in short order, found myself requiring a nap-- naps are good when it is a little nippy in the air and you have a bunch of blankets to pile over you.  I realized, after I'd awoken from my nap, that I hadn't got one item while I was out in the morning so I went to Target after my nap.  For dinner I made some homemade chicken soup-- its going to be a long season for soups and stews and chilis this year which is one of the few advantages for moving here.

That was the excitement of my day-- boring and ordinary, eh?  Wanna hear it get worse?  I'm going to go sort my sock drawer to determine what can be pitched and what needs to stay of the old socks and, of course, find room for the new socks.  Wow-- I don't know if I can stand all of this excitement!!

Thanks for coming by-- always a pleasure to have you in for a visit.  Have a great night!

Another Slow News Day

Sorry about that but, then again, that can be a good thing, too, especially when you live in the DC Metro area these days.

I left work early for a doctor appointment and then spent some quality time with Sally and one of my quilts upon returning home.  As promised, I've updated Sally's page with a whole slew of new pictures-- she is so photogenic!!

Just as an aside, I've also updated my resume a bit-- it would help if I had the correct geographical location on it, wouldn't it?

I know this is brief but, for the moment, there isn't enough happening around here.  Everyone is pretty much laying low, for obvious reasons.  It'll pick up around here, hopefully in a positive manner, soon-- I'm starting to sound like Shelley Bowman, huh?  Yeah, well, that's a pretty good thing to be, huh, Shelley?

Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening and night!

Anniversaries . . .

I woke up this morning trying to remember the significance of October 17.  It must've taken me close to two or three hours and then, as I was hand-writing the date, it occurred to me: The Loma Prieta Earthquake.

Today is the 13th anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake that rocked northern California for what seemed like an eternity.  Instead of being 40 miles away from home, I was four miles, standing in a hospital emergency room with a back injury.  Yep, I was pretty lucky that day-- it could've been a whole lot worse for me personally.

But now, earthquakes are behind us and most everything in our environment these days is predictable with a few exceptions.  If I had a basement, I'd feel better about living amongst tornadoes but, until we own, I'll deal with it.

Happy, happy earthquake day!

Really Cool!!

Something I haven't seen for a lot of years has been happening around me the last few days.  Geese!  I've been seeing geese and ducks flying south in formations of three to twenty-five.  Its really neat to watch them just like it was neat to smell fireplace smoke in the air the other day and feel a twinge of jealousy because, for the first time in a long time, we don't have a fireplace.  Bummer.

Yes, our realtor knows: Requirement #1: basement; Requirement #2: fireplace.  There are more that I'll point out to you as we go along here.  We're picky because we're not going to move again-- this isn't a "moving up" situation where we buy this year and then sell and buy again next year.  Nope, we're going to move and throw the boxes away!  When we get ready to retire, we're just going to sell the contents of the house along with the rest of the real estate and buy new when we get back to California.

That does seem a whole lot simpler, doesn't it?  Yep!

Sally continues to improve and I swear, she smiles a lot more than she used to, even from before the surgery.  I'll put up some new pictures some time over the weekend-- she's just too cute!!

Anyway, thanks for coming by tonight and have a great afternoon, evening and night!

Slow Day at the Office

Well, sorta anyway.  Nothing much happening other than the same rush for documents-- doesn't change whether I'm in the office or not.  The excitement for the day was a fire alarm-- not a drill-- in our building.  We had to go down the stairs (thankfully only from the sixth floor) and, the minute we hit the ground, we could go back up-- false alarm on the 8th floor.  Thanks so much!

Anyway, back up and I went back to work.

Sally's Progress Report:

Sally's doing much better today again.  She's almost back to normal dietarily (is that a word?) speaking as far as eating is concerned but her demeanor is definitely "there".  She's such a sweetie-- I was within her line of vision when I got home so she started wagging her tail almost immediately.  I think she's actually a little disappointed that she can't do her "Welcome Home Flip-Flops" right now but, again, that will come with time.  If she did it with a cast, I'd be really surprised!!

I know this is short but, its already kinda late here-- things to do, don'tcha know.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great night!

Update at 10:30pm

Then again . . .

 . . . maybe not.

More later-- just wanted to update you on developments.  I have to get gas today and, once the nozzle is in the tank, I will be in the car.  Yes, I can be a very smart lady, huh?

10:30pm

I had a fun day today-- I didn't get lost or anything!!  I went up to Ellicott City to find a second quilt shop and spent an enjoyable couple of hours with the ladies who run the store.  They were very helpful and friendly which is one of the reasons that I like quilt shops to begin with, no matter where they are located. I made a wrong turn on the way back so it took me a little longer than expected but, overall, the day was very successful.

At about 4 tonight, we all met over at Lee's house to watch the movie "Hysterical Blindness".  Good movie from an acting standpoint-- Gena Rowlands and Uma Thurman were marvelous; Juliette Lewis played herself (I swear she plays the same roles all the time just like Helen Hunt) and Ben Gazarra although a little on the spooky/mysterious side was good, as well. I think he played his character a little too introspectively but otherwise, he was his usual excellent self.

For munchies we had popcorn and celery and carrots and shrimp and crackers and cheese and I, of course, ate too much.  Gotta be careful tomorrow!!

I know this wasn't planned but thanks for coming by anyway-- have a great evening and I'll catch you tomorrow.

Vacation Day

I am taking today and tomorrow off from the office just cuz I need it.  Today we slept in but not as late as the other mornings because Sally didn't wake us up!!  Yes, indeedy, she's very close to being back to her normal self with a couple of exceptions: her diet and her activity level.  She'll get there but in the meantime, she could lose a few pounds so maybe this is a good idea.  The important thing is that she's drinking water (and lots of it) and she is eating a little and what that consists of is mostly "good stuff", i.e., protein, etc.

We left her alone for about 3 hours today and she was fine-- she didn't tear the house up and, from what we can tell, she did her usual sleeping routine.  No huge surprise, I suppose.

If you've missed out on the saga due to vacations or work schedules, you can catch the details here and here.  She's doing well overall and that's the best part!

Another Quilt Shop Score?

Maybe  . . . Tomorrow I'm going to go to Ellicott City which is near where we were today-- sort of.  The store that I found the other day turned out to be a bonanza with a ton of notions and fabrics and sewing machines-- yes, I know what I want for Christmas and, since it first needs a house to hold around it, I won't be getting it this year!  This one is a lot farther away but time and distance traveled here don't seem as far as in the Bay Area.

Break in the Case?

There appear to be a couple of strong leads that the police are following up on to bring in the sniper.  There's a story on ABC about a possible arrest or at least a guy who is being questioned.  It would be nice to move about freely again!

Short but sweet-- tomorrow night I probably won't be able to post: we're having a "Girl's Night" at one of my co-worker's homes.  We're watching the movie "Hysterical Blindness" which I taped about 6 weeks ago for us-- should be a lot of fun.

Have a great evening and a wonderful night!
