Its Confirmed!
I'm sick-- I don't know with what but I am not feeling well. It started out this morning with a sore throat which progressed into nausea and queasiness. To TheraFlu doses later, I feel "okay" but nothing to write home about.
I haven't been doing much, as a result of not feeling well. I watched a couple of my favorite movies: "Miss Congeniality" and "Auntie Mame" which always makes me feel good. I'm waffling between being cold-n-clammy and hot-n-clammy, neither of which is a particularly good feeling.
As always, I will go into work tomorrow-- I may not stay a whole day but I will go to make sure that I get anything outstanding finished up.
Sorry so short but I'm sure you understand-- thanks for coming by and have a great evening!

Update at 7:39pmNo Mall Today
Or at least, not the Mall that I wanted to go see. Brian and I had talked about going to the Capital to see the Mall, including the Vietnam Memorial, the Washington Monument, etc. BUT, I have managed to awaken with either a royal sinus/allergy problem or the beginnings of a cold. Therefore, there is no huge surprise in the fact that I shouldn't be exposed to large amounts of cold and wind until (a) we know what it is or (b) it passes. Bummer!
That doesn't preclude me from being able to go to the (lower case) mall to go shopping-- I need/want some cold weather accoutrements such as scarf, mittens (for walking), gloves (for driving) and a nice pair of warm hiking boots. I've got "snow boots" for winter wear but they aren't as warm as I'll need to be active in the DC area this winter, not to mention when we travel around and about.
Sew Much To Do
Yes, continued sewing is on the agenda as well-- I've got to start the quilting process for my niece's quilt (its the last Christmas quilt) and I've got some other gifts to finish as well. Today, since I can't do anything but go shopping, I should be able to get some major sewing time in on the new machine. I'm looking forward to that!
Stats
I keep forgetting to mention my stats-- due to the one day that I had 6,911 pages read (in ONE day), my total page reads for the month of October were 15,950 which is a new record for me, needless to say.
As always, thanks for coming by and thanks for the emails-- especially during Sally's accident and surgery time, it was great having this community's support. You are great friends and I appreciate that, more than you can know.

Depending on how things progress, I may or may not be back here-- I'll try but if I don't make it, you have a great morning, afternoon, evening and night!Okay, we're all set for winter outer wear. Brian got a scarf and a pair of gloves and I got a hat, scarf and pair of gloves along with some hiking boots by Columbia that are going to be warm and functional for hiking. That done, we headed out to track down his early Christmas present-- no we're not good at waiting around here!! I'll let him tell you about it tomorrow-- keep checking, eventually he'll stop playing and put up a post about it (if he hasn't already!).
Then we came back home and I finished the hand-sewing on the two smaller Christmas gifts that I had worked on this morning. Now, I've taken a Drixoral for my cold/sinus/allergy headache/nose problem and have started to yawn. Hopefully, I'll make it to at least 11pm but, if I don't, its no great shakes.
Thanks for coming by and catch you tomorrow-- have a great evening!
Friday, November 1, 2002Happy November to You!!
Wow-- here we are almost at the end of the year again!! It does seem that the time is going faster and faster, doesn't it? In just a few short weeks, it'll be Thanksgiving followed closely by Christmas for which I'm not nearly prepared. I need to crank out some sewing projects and, especially now that I've got my new machine!
A Doctor Day . . .
Well, it almost works! Both Sally and I had doctor appointments today. She had yet another thyroid test and was only too happy to not be anywhere near her regular vet's office. Dr. Patty was wonderful though and came out to check on her after Sally had finished the blood draw.
After that, we came home and I took a nap-- I didn't sleep well last night at all. Not sure why-- nothng in particular as far as noises were bothering me but I didn't sleep well, waking up every hour or so. Not fun but, that's why I needed that nap.
Busy Day!!
Work was as busy as could be-- try cramming 8 hours worth of work into a 4-hour day!! I tried to respond to several personal emails but ended up with drafts only-- nothing was ever finalized or sent out. If you're waiting on an email, keep waiting-- its coming!!
We had a planned lunch today because my co-worker, Lee, has her mother in for a visit so the four of us went to lunch. Great time was had by all, needless to say. It was her mother's birthday so we had a little birthday cake, too. Sweet lady-- I'm glad we got to meet her!

Even with the nap this afternoon, I'm fairly done in and ready to retire. Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening!
Thursday, October 31, 2002Happy Hallowe'en!!
Hope you all had a happy and safe Hallowe'en this year. We did-- well, except for Sally. I'm sure she'd rather it didn't involve wearing half of a pair of chaps but, alas, she has yet another half-pair of chaps, clean and white but a lot softer than last time. This "cast" doesn't have splints and does allow for some movement of her leg. She was not a happy camper, of course but, who can blame her? Not I!
At least she's home and safe with us tonight. Of course, she had fun with the trick-or-treaters: lots of petting and pity for an injured doggie!
End-o-Week Tireds
I've got the end of week tiredness that I always get by Thursday night. My eyes are burning and I'm exhausted-- frankly, I'd rather have to use a calendar to judge what day of the week it is but, I guess the best I can do is to be just physically exhausted by Thursday.
A little crocheting in between trick-or-treaters was all that was accomplished tonight-- I think I'm going to give up and turn in.
Thanks for coming by and have a great and safe Hallowe'en!!
Wednesday, October 30, 2002Fall is . . . Falling
Unlike many of you thought (apparently from the email received), I did not spend countless hours in front of the sewing machine last night. Miss Sally decided to have a bark-a-thon and, with her impending cast work, I felt guilty so I went downstairs to spend time with her. I did, however, watch the video that came with the new sewing machine and try a few things out on it. I'm going to work on some other things for Christmas over the next few days and then, on the weekend, in between playing tourist, I'm going to start quilting work on the last big Christmas present for the nieces/nephew on Brian's side of the family. With the new machine, I'm able to do some very creative things in the quilting portion of the work so it should be a lot of fun.
And Speaking of the Weather . . .
Yes, indeedy-- there is a "chance of overnight snow" on Friday night here in the DC area!!! Yikes!!! Where is California again??? Maybe we need to re-think this, honey?
Its okay-- that's a weekend which will obviously not require us to go someplace. We only wanted to do a walking tour of DC but, we don't HAVE to do that. Ohmigosh-- what have we signed up for?!?!?!?
Mind Like a . . . Sieve
Yep, that's me: I thought Sally's re-casting was on Wednesday (today). It turns out that it was scheduled for both Tuesday and Thursday (I scheduled the first and Brian scheduled the second) so at least we had a back-up. It put off her getting her splinted cast removed but, she'll have the same size cast according to the technician that I spoke with this morning. Oh, well-- as long as we get more of the "bags" to protect her foot from the outside elements, I guess we'll put up with it for another three weeks! ;>)
"Normal" Routine
Whatever that is . . . I'm going to be changing it, I think. First off, I need to start getting some exercise so I have to "schedule" myself to ride my stationary bike after I get home from work. Then, I can cook dinner and shower after that when I've had a chance to cool down. Then, I'll have more time for sewing after the shower and I'll be refreshed from both the exercise and the shower.
Now, in theory that all sounds really good. Whether or not I'll be able to pull it off is another story. There are nights when I don't come home right from work but have Weight Watchers or other meetings and appointments to attend. I've got to force myself to work at it though because it would be better for me overall.
Remind me of this later when I start to slack off, okay? Yeah, I know-- that'll bug me but then sometimes ya just gotta do that!

Well, I'm going to go hit the Viking-- I've got a table runner to quilt and I want to try some stuff out on the machine to do it!Have a great evening, okay? Okay!!
Tuesday, October 29, 2002Merry Christmas To Me!!!
"We" went out and bought my Christmas present tonight: A Viking Lily 545. I left work at 3:30pm and found my way to and from Columbia, Maryland to pick it up. I'm excited!! I've got a bunch of books and a video to read and go through and, yes, again, my cousin Barb is amazingly proud of her influence on me. I had called her last night to get advice about what machine to buy and how to buy it, i.e., through a quilt shop or a dealer. I called the dealer this morning and was told I could get a "slightly used" machine in my price range but later, the sales person called me back to tell me she could get me a better machine if I could get in there today. Guess what? I was there!! It is "blemished" but the store manager can't find the problem-- there's no scratches or anything but the manufacturer said there was a problem so she marked it down. Do I care if I can't find it? Nope-- I got $500 off MSRP because it was there!!!!!!!!!!
Despite the rain, I made it there and back in just less than three hours, too. I didn't have a map home-- I always forget to get directions back from a place I go to. In addition to getting directions from my office, I had also retrieved directions for this store from my home so I reversed those directions and found my way with no problems at all.
Although it isn't too heavy to handle, with the rain coming down, Brian helped to carry it into the house and up the stairs where, if you'll pardon the short post again, I'm going to go try to start it up and do some practicing with the machine while I watch the video. Yes, I'm excited-- or couldja tell?!?!?!?
Thanks for coming by and have a great evening, too!
Monday, October 28, 2002Didn't Happen!
Nope, for us, yesterday did not happen! We did nothing that would be considered work although I attempted to sew in the afternoon for a little while. I soon decided that it was too much like work and stopped that process all together. Sally took her cue from us and did much the same, once she managed to roll out of bed at 10AM!!! She was sleeping for more than 12 hours!!
Sewing Machine Hunt
My sewing machine has started making a peculiar smell-- the smell of a burning motor. This is not a good thing, needless to say. I've got Christmas presents to finish!!! ARGH!!! Okay, so I'm on the hunt for a new sewing machine-- I'd like to stick with Singer since I have so many attachments for my Singer currently-- things that were not cheap to begin with and I don't want to have to replace them.
I'm going to go back and find the same place that I bought the current machine at-- see what I can find in a new or a refurbished machine (again). I definitely got my money's worth out of the machine I bought 1-1/2 years ago!! Miles and miles of stitches!!
Hopefully, the one I've got will hold up until the new one can be found-- Cross your fingers!
*****
Sorry so short but nothing major to report-- I'm sure I thought of things during the day but I am forgetting it now so . . . if I remember I'll be back. In the meantime, have a great night!
