Well, I'd say that Brian's been working like a dog but we know in Sally's case, that wouldn't apply. Perhaps I should say that Brian's been working as long and as hard as Sally sleeps. That would be incredibly accurate! He's been working long hard days that may not be physically exhausting but they are mentally exhausting. Of course, he's also feeling incredibly challenged and having a good time at the same time-- there's no accounting for some folks' definition of "Fun", I guess-- and that's important!!
Sally and I miss him but its worth the sacrifice to get the customer settled into the new site so we'll put up with it for a bit longer. Its funny, last night, Sally got really "antsy" at about 8pm-- she just wouldn't settle down! Once Brian got home, she settled down without any problem at all-- she just missed him! How cute is that?!?!?
For Me?
I went out yesterday and got a few groceries (milk, bread, etc.) and after unloading the car by walking up the hill to the house (remember our driveway was resurfaced on Thursday?) twice, I rested for a few minutes and went over to the quilt shop to pick up the software that I wanted, "Pattern Master Boutique". I also signed up for a class about the software on Tuesday night which should be interesting.
I came home and rested for an hour and then went out to get my hair trimmed and colored-- yes, I do that to prevent looking like Kitty Batholomew. When I finished that and came back home, it was 2:30 and I layed down for a well-deserved nap at 3. Unfortunately, I was awoken by a loud clap of thunder at 4:18pm (yes, I tend to look at the time when I hear thunder-- in case the power goes out, I guess) but, it was still a nice nap. Sally and I watched a movie or two and I did some computer work with embroidery designs to round out the evening and waiting for Brian to come home.
Today, my friend Linda Rose is coming over to sew with me-- she's bringing her D1 and we'll move mine to the kitchen table, too. Then we'll settle down for some sewing fun and talking and gossiping, etc. Should be a lot of fun!
Maybe I'll check in later but if I don't, have a good day!!
Friday, August 15, 2003Long Week in Smallville
I haven't been posting daily because nothing much has been happening around here. I appreciate your tolerance of this irregularity-- aren't you glad I put the "Last Updated" date at the top? Yep, me too-- believe it or not, it reminds me of how long its been since I last wrote here.
In A Nutshell
Tuesday? I had lunch with my boss and friend, Judy. I have to admit, I was tired when I left for the restaurant so I probably didn't look my best for meeting her. We got to talking about how I was feeling in general and, by the end of the conversation agreed that I would not be going to work "part-time" on Monday (August 18).
I really feel that this surgery has been harder than I expected it to be as far as recuperation. Other people tell me that I'm doing fabulously well but I just feel so wiped out!! Anyway, Judy and I decided that I would work from home part-time as of September 2 and then start back full-time at the office on September 8 (after my doctor appointment that morning). In a conversation with my doctor yesterday (Thursday) confirmed that it was the smartest thing to do but, at least he left it up to me to decide it.
On Wednesday I did some errands including going back to the fabric store to buy blouse fabric. I'm going to make a run to the quilt shop around the corner from our house in a day or two to buy some software there: Pattern Master. Pattern Master is a software program that lets you design and print patterns for your own clothes. Nice, huh? No more pattern purchases!! Anyway, when I get that, I'm going to design a couple of blouses to wear with pant suits that I'm going to make for the winter.
Yesterday was another trip back to the Vet-- Sally's been given a clean bill of health (for the moment), followed by a four-hour nap!! See what I mean? Even before the surgery, I never napped for four hours!!
Anyway, I'm going to get my hair done tomorrow-- for the first time in what seems like forever!!! I'm looking forward to that, let me tell ya. Then, on Sunday, my friend and co-worker from the store, Linda Rose is going to come over for a bit of lunch and some sewing. Should be tons of fun-- she always makes me laugh!! (Linda Rose is the friend who worked with the Capital Steps this spring when we went to see them.)
Anyway . . . as stated before, thanks for stopping by and keeping track of me (and keeping me honest). I appreciate the emails and other correspondences from all of you!
Take care and have a great day!!
Monday, August 11, 2003Items of Note
The passing of Lenore Thompson; our friends, Bob & Barbara Thompson are mourning the loss of Bob's mother. We had the pleasure of meeting her in November of last year and I enjoyed our conversations. She and I had a lot in common because of our crafting and needlework-- it was a pleasure to talk with her. Lenore will be missed by all, indeed.
My sister and her husband are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary today!! They were supposed to go to Paris for their thirtieth but, since they have a son getting married later this month, they decided not to try to cram too many things into a 31-day period of time! Congrats Sue & Bill!!!
870 Pages Later . . .
I finished reading the 5th Harry Potter book over the weekend; I had started it last Monday and, without being too obsessive about it, managed to finish it fairly quickly, I think.
J. K. has certainly a talent for putting a story together, doesn't she? Loved it-- highly recommended!
My Condition??
The truth of the matter is that my stamina stinks but my strength is pretty good. Does that make any sense? No, I didn't think so. Let me see if I can explain.
Today, because I have to start "stretching" myself, after the Sears guy left (checking out the washer on an annual basis), I showered and dressed and went out to Bed, Bath & Beyond to find towels for projects. Then, I went to the dollar store in Bowie and found some craft stuff and then, I went to my favorite fabric store. I walked in, and walked around a bit and then walked out. Nope, not one purchase. Yes, that should be obvious to all, eh? Something's not right.
I picked up some take-out on my way home for lunch and then, after eating it, layed down for a 2-hour nap. Right now, I feel like I could sleep for six more hours!
Not good.
I'm going to keep working at it though so we'll see how it goes.
Sally's Condition
Well, Sally is old. There is no doubt about that, for sure. The vet thinks (without seeing her) that the incontinence could be due to hormone shortages. In a dog, when they spay them, they keep the ovaries in the dog and when those "expire", she can lose a lot of abilities, including control of bladder functions. We'll check it on Thursday, along with everything else, but may be looking at hormone replacement therapy for her.
Yeesh!! What else?!?!?!? No, don't ask that-- I'm beginning to learn that it is a dangerous question!!
Patience & Tolerance
Thanks for your patience and tolerance with regard to the irrgularity of my posts here. Some days are better than others. Rest assured that I am not out at the beach partying or on a shopping spree if you don't see anything here for a few days. I'm working on it and will do what I can, as I can and in the meantime, be grateful for good friends...Like YOU!!
Thanks for stopping by and have a good evening!
