Archive of Marcia's Musings December 1-7, 2003Sisters, Sisters!!!
That's right: Sally has a little sister!! Her name is Lucy Mae (my mother's middle name) and she's a cocker spaniel of about 5 years of age. She's been recently spayed but she's a happy little thing. Sally thinks we're being a little disloyal but her mopiness has started to lessen as the evening has progressed. She just needs reassurance that we love her as much as ever and that she's still our "Baby Girl" which of course, she will always be.
I didn't mention that we were going through the adoption process because you just never know how long it will take. It could be a week to get a little girl or it could be a month sooooo, why jinx us, ya know? They did the vet-check last Monday and the home inspection on Friday (which was one reason that I was home during the day). Tomorrow I'll work from home again to make sure that the girls get adjusted to being together and, besides, it won't have been 24-hours that Lucy's been with us yet!!
Whoops!!
I messed that up-- I really did intend to get back here yesterday but never made it since our time-table changed a bit. We had a wonderful dinner out with my co-workers in the District for the holidays. Lots of fun and DELICIOUS food!! Yummmmmmmyyyy!!!
Tonight I'm tired; I didn't get a nap today. I'll probably go to bed soonish, right after I send off an email to the adoption lady to get Lucy's medical history.
Thanks for your patience and for stopping by-- take care and have a good night and a wonderful Monday!!
Saturday, December 6, 2003Snow Day? Sew Day!!
Well, we did our fair share: we bought a snow blower about a month ago figuring that we would then never need to use it. Hah!! WRONG!! As I write this post, Brian has started out snow-blowing the driveway. We've currently got what looks like 8" from my perspective. Enough for a guy to have fun with his new Tim Allen (Rgh-RGH!!) toy, don'tcha think?
Well, since it is now a full-blown sew day, I'll be doing just that-- I've got a bunch of stuff that I've been wanting to start/finish so I'm going to work on that. We're not sure about dinner yet-- it may be too early to tell if the roads are going to be cleared off enough to get back home, once the roads freeze from today's expected somewhat-of-a-thaw.
I've cancelled Sally's vet appointment and pushed it to Monday-- that's okay, she's not disappointed.
More later I'm sure as I finish things up or get them started, whichever is more appropriate!
Have a great day!!
Friday, December 5, 2003Much Accomplished!!
This weekend is going to be busy soooo, tonight I wrapped all of the Christmas gifts that need to be mailed/shipped out!! Yeah-- that's a huge relief! This after a full day of working (from home), bicycling (yes, I'm doing it again!), and going to the center to get my weight checked.
Tomorrow, I've got to take Sally in for her physical (all of her vet appointments are covered now-- no more pre-existing condition exclusions) and we may need to go by Sears to pick up our generator. If not that, we may end up going to BJ's but, in any event, tomorrow evening is the dinner for our department for the holidays. We're going to a ritzy restaurant (why not, the company's paying for it!!), hopefully, if the weather doesn't get too much worse.
Yes, that's right, we've got snowflakes a-flyin' around here. Not as big as I'd like and certainly not as debilitating to the roadway systems but, beautiful anyway. Sunday we're going to be taking a drive up to Reisterstown so maybe its good that it isn't snow a lot at this point.
Somewhere in there, I have a turkey to bake-- you know how we have to have a turkey around Thanksgiving!! Well, so we're a few days late-- I don't mind!!
I will try to post every day and keep you up to date on events as they happen.
Sorry this is so short but . . . well, what can I say-- its been a long week!
Take care of yourselves and have a good evening!
Thursday, December 4, 2003Searching . . .
I've been searching for a topic to write about this evening. My friend, Pat, tells me that she likes it when I post "newsy" updates. Unfortunately, there's nothing all that newsy today.
It is my niece's birthday today. (Faye, the beautiful one of my sister, Karen's kids-- as opposed to Natali, the beautiful one of my sister, Susan's kids.) I didn't have connectivity when it was Natali's birthday back on November 1 (because of the move). It sure is handy that they each only have one daughter so I can't end up insulting the other, less attractive girl child that doesn't exist. The other handy thing is that they both really are gorgeous-- I couldn't believe it when I saw them in Michigan over the summer. Amazing-- I have no idea where those genes came from!!
I'm going to be working from home tomorrow. That's the first time since we've moved. I need to be here for a delivery so that makes it easier. Also, it is supposed to snow . . . yes, there's that word!!
Believe it or not, I have not had my body taken over by pod people but I am looking forward to snow!! I know I said that last night but I am so completely amazed by it, I can't stand it!! My sisters are probably in shock! Oh, well, people are allowed to change, right? Yep, I heard that somewhere . . .
That's all I can think of for now-- if anything else comes up on my radar, I'll let you know.
Thanks for stopping by, as always, and have a great evening!
Wednesday, December 3, 2003More of the Same
I ended up getting jammed up on sending the embroidery software from my main computer to my Yahoo account so I could download it into the sewing computer. Eight separate emails later, I have successfully jammed up my Yahoo email account and still don't have the software designs downloaded. Yikes!!
Speaking of Web Work
Tonight, I finally published some pictures in my sister's website-- I've been remiss in doing that for about two months. They put up with me because . . . well, I don't know why they put up with me!!
Anyway, I finally got the pictures published there and now I'm trying to write this post and simultaneously clean up my email folder. I've got over 500 emails in my inbox because, unfortunately, the filters aren't working and I don't know why. I just need to not be lazy and get the box cleaned up and keep it that way.
Balance of the Week
It looks like I'll be working from home on Friday with or without the expected snow. I've been kinda anxious for it to arrive anyway-- I don't know why I'm looking forward to snow. That has to be a first for me!!
Excuse the shortness of the post-- I've got a gazillion windows open on my desk right now.
Thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT evening!
Tuesday, December 2, 2003Once Again
Well, unbelievable as it may seem, I have been with my current employer for four years this week!! Its really funny: whenI was younger, I would change jobs on a regular basis, every two years or so. In the past 13 years, I've only had 3 jobs which is pretty good by comparison. There seems to be a situation wherein my job changes every now and then and that keeps me interested.
As it turns out, that's happening again: I'm getting to work in the federal contracts group, including getting a security clearance. Should be interesting, eh? I'll also be attending some seminars and will be an active member of the incorporation team for our federal group.
Nary a dull moment.
Work To Do
I've set up my sewing computer but haven't done a lot of stuff with it yet-- until tonight, that is. I'm going to go over and do some work on it and get it going again and then I might even do some work on my machines! Wonders will never cease, eh?
That's all I can think of for tonight but, I will be back if anything else strikes me. As always, thanks for stopping by and have a good evening!
Monday, December 1, 2003I'm HERE, Okay?
The entire time that we were at Barbara and Bob's place, Barbara harrassed me about not posting. Well, fortunately or unfortunately, there is no way for me to post remotely from that distance. I can do it over the VPN here at home but, since my sewing computer is only ten feet from my regular computer, why bother?
Anyway, we're back and, yes, we had a lovely time. As always, Barbara and I hit Greensboro and improved the entire North Carolina economy in the process. I hadn't mentioned before, because I didn't want to expose anything, but the movers broke five of our regular dinner plates and two of our holiday dinner plates. That meant that we could hit Replacements, Ltd. for the appropriate replacements of those items and a few other things along the way.
After that, we made a stop at Old Salem which had a lovely museum along with some neat shops. Last year, we walked the streets but this year we just stayed in the museum itself. After that, we headed over to the A.C. Moore store. That store had more "blank" t-shirts than I've ever seen!! That was tons of fun and I was able to stock up on some much needed embroidery and craft items. In the evening, we went to dinner with Barbara's folks-- they're sweet!! Unfortunately, they had an opportunity to go to Walt Disney World for Thanksgiving Day but at least we got the chance to see them anyway.
On Thursday, we slept, breakfasted and showered late, but dined early on a delicious dinner of ham and broccoli and baked apples and macaroni-n-cheese. Nummy!!
Friday, as you've heard I'm sure, Barbara and I went to the craft fair in Greensboro and, again, assisted in boosting the economy. I picked up a lot of new stuff for the house since I now know "where everything will go after we buy a house". (That's always been my excuse-- not knowing what I'll do with something after we buy a house.)
We had a delicious dinner of grilled steaks, chicken and vegetables and then, their friends Paul and Mary came over after dinner for dessert and a rousing game of Cranium! Fun game but you have to have more than two people to play.
Anyway, we started back on Saturday morning and got home about 8 hours later. From what I heard from one of my sales reps, we missed the really bad back-up that we were trying to avoid. Apparently, an hour or so behind us and it was a grueling three hours of backed-up traffic! Whew!! I don't know what Sally would've done!!
We're home and we're off to a rousing start on the new month, too. We've got our tree up but not decorated yet. I will also need to figure out what, if anything else gets decorated. I may just wait until the after-Christmas sales to worry about buying major decorations.
By the way, I lost more than a half pound over the holiday, following my carb-cleansing Sunday and Monday!! YEAH!!! I didn't try to sabotage myself but I had no choices in some cases as to what I could eat, i.e., when we were at the craft fair. The rest of the time, with everyone's help, I stayed "good" and stuck to the plan so I feel good about having lost a half pound!!
That was my week in a nutshell-- Yes, I'm back to posting regularly again!!
Thanks for your patience and your patronage. Have a great evening!
