For Sure!!
It is for sure! I got the job at the Viking store where I bought my machine-- Yeah!! In addition to teaching sewing classes, I'll be "selling" inside the store, too so that should be fun. They have a sales program that will teach me about the machines and I'll be teaching classes such as "Quilting Fundamentals", etc. I'm really looking forward to it-- I think it should be tons of fun!! I'll be working two nights during the week (Monday and Thursday) and then also one weekend day but, if I teach on a Saturday, I don't work that Sunday. I am really looking forward to this-- the people that work there are a lot of fun, too so that, as usual, will help speed the time along.
And, in case you're wondering, they're extremely willing to work around my knee surgery so that I don't have to worry about being up on my feet/knees during the time that I'm recovering. They want me to recover, too and the better and faster the proper healing, the better as far as they're concerned.
Big Run
With my knee? Hah!! No, we went to the wholesale club today and the Bed, Bath and Beyond store and the grocery store-- all is said and done, however so that's nice. I'm going to make turkey chili for dinner tonight so that we've got it for a couple of meals throughout the week.
Other than that, I'm going to go sew for awhile-- I haven't done any all day today but then, I'm doing ironing in preparation for finishing out the tablecloth for my nephew's fiance's wedding shower. Yes, I do believe in being prepared!!
Take care and have a nice evening!
Saturday, February 22, 2003So Many Headings
There are so many headings that could apply to this particular paragraph: "Spare Time?", "Silly Woman!" and on and on. Today, when I was at the Viking store picking up MY sewing machine and spending some birthday cash, I also signed up to teach a class in quilting!! They are going to be starting "Christmas Club" in April and want to include several quilting projects but don't have anyone to teach the classes. "Hmmm", said I to myself-- "I would like to do that" I said aloud to the woman I was speaking with and there you have it. I don't know that there's a "Hiring Process" that I have to go through but she was excited at the prospect. I also have to work at the store part a few hours a week but I can spare that in the name of doing what I want to do!!
This brings to mind another heading: "Ultimate Goal". In recent months, I've been thinking about what I want to do when I grow up and I decided that when I'm ready to give up working at "real work", I want to teach sewing classes, quilt, sew-for-hire, etc. I really enjoy it so that makes sense. I can't just start that in 10 or 15 years though-- I have to get my name out there so that there is a "demand" for the product when I want there to be which means that I have to start small now. This is that "small start". I think it should be fun. I'll keep you posted about how it goes getting together and whether or not it actually comes to fruition and happens.
Rain and Rain and RAIN
The good news is that it is rain-- if it were snow, we'd be buried in again!! There was thunder and lightening and it pelted down rain-- in BIG drops-- for two or three hours today. Pretty fun but I am glad it was rain and not snow!
We're off for dinner in Alexandria . . . have a great evening!
Friday, February 21, 2003Picking Up
Part of "feeling better", of course is getting more into being at work when I'm there and, also feeling like work is going well. Today, with several things moved off my plate and into the plate for distribution/use in Sunnyvale where the home office is, I felt very perked up. I was downright excited to get some of that stuff off my desk-- at one point, I was simultaneously sending out four faxes!! Yes, things were very much more normal today.
On the Agenda . . .
This weekend I'm going to spend some time . . . sewing! Man, you must really get sick of hearing that, eh? Can't help it-- it is what I love to do!! Oh, well. I'm going to get my hair "touched up", too and pick up my sewing machine-- it is back from the repair place, good as new. That's a good thing since it was only two days old when it went there in the first place!! I've had several phone calls about it being there-- they want the loaner back since its the floor model and can't tell people what the machine is like without it being there! While I'm there, I'm going to spend some birthday cash and get embroidery threads-- I won't get everything but I'll get a lot of what I'll need to get started. The embroidery-type of threads are more expensive so they won't be bought or spent easily.
Tomorrow night, we're heading out to dinner with Brian's bosses from California-- they're here in the area so we're going to meet them somewhere between Springfield, VA and Bowie, MD for dinner. It'll be nice to see Trudy and Jack-- they are lots of fun!
On Sunday, I'm pretty sure we'll be doing the usual wholesale run and grocery store although things are limited for what we need since we just did that run on Wednesday. Brian said something about re-stocking our main supplies so that could be costly!!
At any rate, I'll catch up with you tomorrow-- have a great evening!!
Thursday, February 20, 2003Much Better!!
As much as you can say it for us, Brian and I were both pretty close to "normal"-- for us. We both went to work and had productive days. I actually had a lot to do given that I hadn't done any work on Wednesday at all. I cranked out a number of documents with only one or two things left on my plate for the start of tomorrow. That's a Good Thing, indeed.
Sewing Night
Not that its all that unusual. I've got the case for my embroidery threads at the Viking store to pick up on Saturday when I get my machine. I'm looking forward to having all of the components together. So far, I don't have all of them but they are working on it. With Brian out to the area Linux user group meeting, that leaves me with but one thing to do. Rats!! ;>)
In The Meantime
Sally's adorable and trying to get my attention-- I'm not sure why since she's been fed, outside and it isn't nearly treat time yet. Whatever the reason, she'll make wonderful excuses for it all anyway.
I'd better get to it.
Have a great evening and night!
Wednesday, February 19, 2003Sick Day
Would you believe? My first chance in four days to get out and I have a sick day???? I did do a few things at home since there were some emails that I was looking for but, I didn't do as much as I should've or would've done had it been a "work from home" day.
Good News
The "Good News" is that I feel better. Yes, I'll be going to work tomorrow and will be bright-eyed-n-bushy-tailed when I arrive. Nope, sorry, there is no "Bad News" tonight. I feel better-- as close to normal as I get these days.
Other Good News
I did get a phone call today about my sewing machine: its fixed!!! I can come by and pick it up whenever I want to do so. Since the roads are still not in the best shape possible, I'll stop by Saturday; I'm still waiting on the USB computer link so maybe that'll be in by then, too.
*****
I know this is short but how much could happen when I'm sick? Yeah, you got it now!! I'm going to get back to my sewing-- I've got the Christmas tablecloth for my nephew just about ready for quilting!!Have a great evening!
Tuesday, February 18, 2003Cabin Fever?
Yep, gotta get into the real world tomorrow-- this is getting to be a bit much!!
Sorry so short but I'm really tired.
Have a good evening!
Monday, February 17, 2003Really Slow News Day
I'm not sure if he's excited and happy or dreading it but, Brian keeps waking up early to see how much snow we've got. As a result, we/I woke up at 3:30am and again at 7:18am-- on the second go-round, we actually both got out of bed and, after teaching Sally a new trick (we'll go there later), we went downstairs, made coffee and I had breakfast. Brian went out to do some shoveling and I came upstairs to read websites and check email.
Then, I promptly went back to bed. I couldn't believe how tired I was and it was only 9:15am!! I was exhausted, complete with my eyes burning from tiredness so I ended up back in bed and asleep for another two hours!! Sally slept next to the bed "with" me. Brian just blew his nose and sneezed-- yes, he's developed a full-blown cold (pardon the pun).
Old Dog, New Trick
We have a sleigh bed. We have a sleigh bed with a double-pillow-top mattress on it with a box spring. Yes, we have a "Princess and the Pea" bed. My joke has been that I have to take a running leap to get on the bed and, once I'm up there, I get a nose bleed!! Okay, so I've got a stool that I have set next to the bed so that I can step on that to get into bed-- relieves the "run-n-leap" trials with my knee not being great right now.
I've actually had this stool for a couple of months. This morning, when we were waking Sally up, Brian chose to show her that, if she put her paws on the stool she could reach me in the bed. Well, that thrilled her to no end!! She pranced around trying it out a couple of times!! Prancing around the room and then coming back up to the side of the bed and on the stool to reach me and give me a kiss. Oh, joy-- she can now reach me in bed!! Why do I know that this is going to be a problem? Especially on a cold outside/warm inside the bed Saturday morning . . . oy!!
Sewing Fiend!!
Guess what I've been doing all day? Sewing!!! I've got a really excellent head-start on a wedding shower present for my nephew's fiance and I've got the strips for our tablecloth cut as well. I've been having a lot of fun these last few days, needless to say.
Even though I'm going to be working from home tomorrow, the last four days have been a lot of fun and very relaxing for me! I've been enjoying myself immensely doing what I wanted to do-- essentially. Yes, I've offered to help with the driveway-shoveling but, as I've been told by Brian, with my knee, it would not be a Good Thing if I were to injure myself further. Too true, true.
*****
And with that, I'm outta here. Its almost 9pm and I've done nothing productive in a few hours!!Argh!!
Have a great evening, night and whatever!
