No Shows
None of the three people I expected came into the store yesterday. Bummer!! I did sell a Rose to a gentleman buying a combination 25th Wedding Anniversary and 50th Birthday Present for his wife. He was a really nice guy who wanted to get her the best without going too far overboard-- that's okay since we don't have another boxed D1 in the stock right now! Other than that, however, the day was pain-stakingly slow-- the weather in the Columbia area was particularly nice so people were doing things in their homes rather than venturing into the stores. Oh, well, "Blondie" my co-worker and I had fun just the same.
Hard Day Tomorrow
I do not expect tomorrow to be a fun day. I'm going to try to get into the office by 7 although that may be asking a bit too much. I've got a deal to pull in for John so I've gotta work on a contract that isn't pretty. Oh, well, I'm sure I'll get it done but I'm not sure that the customer will appreciate the effort.
Still To Do . . .
I've got the sleeves left to hem on my jacket for the wedding outfit so all of the other top-stitching has been finished. Considering how fine this sheer silk is to work with, the fact that I have all of my hair is nothing short of a miracle!!
Tonight, I've got pills to set up for the next week and, as I promised Brian, I've got the desk to clean up. There are major piles of junk that I just don't know how to deal with so I'm going to have to touch each piece until I get it all touched and sorted or filed or tossed. Yuck!! Not fun but I've gotta do it-- Double-Yuck!!
Anyway, as the month draws to a close, thanks for stopping by-- take care of yourselves and each other. Have a great evening!
Saturday, June 28, 2003This is it!!
Between working today and playing with my new toy tonight (can you say "Designer One"?), this will probably be the only post I put up tonight. I keep playing with the different stitches to see how they stitch out-- there are 650 built-in stitches!!! The uses of them is mind-boggling but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Yes, I've still got my Rose-- the Rose is a good utilitarian stitcher. Its almost better at sewing, except for the quantity and styles of stitches, than the Designer One. Eventually, I hope to be able to sew with the Rose and embroider with the "D1" simultaneously, thus proving the use of both machines.
Tomorrow outside of errands, I plan to finish the top stitching and hemming on my outfit for the wedding. Now we'll all cross our fingers that I don't gain any weight after my surgery so that the dress still fits by the end of August! (I shouldn't gain, in fact, as Brian and I have it planned, I should end up losing weight!)
I've Done It . . . Again
Yesterday afternoon, when retrieving Sally from outside, I managed to stub my left pinky toe on a chair REALLY hard. Yes, indeedy-- I believe I've broken that toe-- again. That particular toe, because of its location, has been broken more times than any of my other toes ("thousands of times", if you ask Brian) although a great number of them have also been broken over the years.
Garage Sale Time
We're having a "Garage Sale" at the store-- HUGE savings on sewing machines although they are not at "Garage Sale Prices". As a result, we expect to be particularly busy and, with the advent of the above-mentioned broken toe, I'll be wearing some leather sneakers for all of the running around I hope to be doing. I do have two of the three people I demo'd on Sunday coming in today so I expect that it'll be a good day for me, too.
Yes, I really do enjoy this job!!!
Enough from me-- Chinese take-out for dinner tonight and then a relaxing evening at home, I hope. Brian and Sally will be busy with their projects and naps (yes, you can figure out who will be doing what) while I'm gone.
Have a wonderful day-- afternoon, evening and night!
Friday, June 27, 2003Ridicuously Busy!!!
Today was a ridiculously busy day at the office. I spent the vast majority of my time split between North Carolina and Brazil customers. An extreme in each case, I must tell you. The law firm that we have working with us in Brazil was giving us a hard time at cranking out a document and still didn't understand what I was saying to them. In North Carolina, there is a government entity that is causing me a lot of grief. Needless to say, it was a rough day. Thankfully, there is only one more day left but I have deals that need to get in before the end of business on Monday.
Remember Me?
Yep, I'm "The Luckiest Girl In The World". I say that because of the wonderfully generous and intelligent man that I am fortunate enough to be married to and, even though I acknowledge that every day, today is one of the days when I feel extra "LUCKY"!!
The manager at the sewing store offered me a deal-- HUGE savings-- on a top model machine. This puppy RETAILS (as in MSRP) for $6,000. She gave me a WONDERFUL, OUTRAGEOUS deal on this one because it has had a computer component replaced and has a scratch on it (which I have yet to find) BUT, still has the full manufacturer warranty on it. There is no down side here!!!
Even though I'm going to work tomorrow, I went to pick it up tonight and got it set up downstairs. I'll use it mostly for my embroidery since it is better at that than the Rose but I'm glad to have both of them. I can see myself being VERY busy with both of them!!
THANKS AGAIN, SWEETIE!!!!
What a wonderful way to end my week, eh? Yessirrreeeee!!!!!
Okay, that's it for me tonight-- I'm tired and I have to work tomorrow instead of Sunday so I'm going to get to sleep.
Take care and have a great evening!
Thursday, June 26, 2003Not Good Progress
Despite the cortisone shot, my knee's bursitis continues to hurt. This is not good progress, at all. Of course, I was on it all night tonight but, to no avail just the same as no sewing machines were sold. I'm looking forward to Saturday (when I will work instead of Sunday this week); we're having a big sale so I'm hoping that my customers will be able to take advantage of it.
The quarter close is afoot with madness and wildness prevailing overall. I spent the better part of the day working on a deal with the Brazilian office. They need training; I need to go down there but it isn't going to be the next quarter that a trip will occur. Maybe the fourth quarter? I'll talk to John about that . . . soon.
Sorry this is so short-- its hot and humid here and tough to get cooled down and tougher still to sit in front of a computer.
Thanks for stopping by and take care of yourself. Have a good evening!
Wednesday, June 25, 2003Not Much
There's not much to report tonight. My knee is doing better but then, after the cortisone shot, it should be doing better. Work was work and it is stepping up because of the end of the quarter. The dress of the outfit that I made for my nephew's wedding fits-- that's always a good thing-- so I only have the top stitching left to do in the dress and the jacket.
Details, Details
I was able to pry a few more details out of the admin for the department about the contracts meeting in California in July. I've got a "mandatory" dinner on Wednesday night-- its always nice to know that people want to be with you, isn't it-- and then Monday and Tuesday night I'm free (except that I've already made plans for Monday night with Pat). Thursday night I should pack but since that won't take terribly long, I could also do something with her on Thursday evening which only leaves me Tuesday night for my in-laws. In case you're wondering, my in-laws used to have (and I will check with them) a standing symphony/opera evening on Thursday which is why I don't think they'll be available but, if they are, we can always arrange something for that night, instead.
While this seems short, the weather has turned summer-like which doesn't lend itself to sitting in front of a computer. Thank goodness my sewing stuff has been moved downstairs!
Thanks for stopping by-- take care of yourselves and have a good evening!
Tuesday, June 24, 2003Having Fun
Did I mention? We've got enough people at the store so that no one works alone anymore. Its really nice to not be at the store alone-- it makes the time pass more quickly, obviously. It seems that "Jean" is going to be covering for me while I'm out on my sick leave so she's getting used to working the floor on Tuesday and Thursday nights with me now. She's a nice person although a bit quiet-- well, she tries to be around me but that's not easy to do since I try to draw her out a bit more.
At any rate, its nice to work with someone else around. Tonight we sold another sewing machine and some software. Of course, several people came by with the ultimate intention of buying a machine but we'll see if they come back.
Knee Update
Yes, I have bursitits. That is the only thing that's got my knee "Not Perfect". I don't like it but I don't have much choice except that I can get another cortisone shot-- which is what I did today. I have to travel to California in a few weeks and walking around airports is not fun when you're in pain (remember I did that in January!). I can fly now, too, since he's cleared me for that from the last time that I was in his office. I've still got one more check to follow-up on the bursitis and I have my walking orders (pardon the pun) on what I can begin to do now that I've had the shot. Most of the "orders" consist of strengthening and stretching the ham string so that I can eliminate the need for the cortisone shots by getting rid of the inflammation.
Anyway, I know that there's something else I wanted to tell you but I can't remember it so it'll have to wait until tomorrow night. I need to have a cuddle with Sally now.
Thanks, as always, for stopping by-- its good to see you and hear from you all! Have a great evening!!
Monday, June 23, 2003Seems Odd
We're almost finished with June-- okay, a week to go but that's still "almost" and it seems odd, like the time has gone too fast again. No shock there, I suppose, eh?
I've got an appointment at my orthopedist's office tomorrow at 8am. That's such a fun way to start the day . . . NOT!! I'm going to talk with him about the pain in the bursitis area of my right knee. If it weren't for that, I'd be pain-free. I've got my flights to California coming up next month and with all the walking I'm going to do, I'm going to have a hard time doing them if I've got problems with that acting up. I'm going to try to get another cortisone shot from him since I'm pretty sure that won't interfere with the other surgery next month. That'll make me pain free so I can work at strengthening what needs to be strengthened to eliminate the bursitis. It is a vicious cycle.
Busy Week Ahead
Tonight was about the only free night all week: I've got work tomorrow and Thursday and physical therapy and quilt guild on Wednesday. Until Friday, there will be no "just sitting around" time for me! Sometimes this is a good thing and sometimes, it is not a good thing-- I'll let you know on Friday, okay?
In the meantime, take care and thanks for stopping by! Have a great evening!
