Luckiest Girl In The World!!!
I don't know how the rest of you do it-- you aren't married to the best man and yet, you survive. Wow!! I am married to the best man in the world-- today, while I was at work, Brian finished moving most of the rest of the sewing room stuff downstairs after building me a perfect cutting table yesterday. He is completely amazing!!! He blows me away with the way that he thinks things through and lays things out and builds things and does things. Its really pretty amazing!!! Man, I am really a lucky girl, ya know that?
Niche Found
In case I haven't mentioned it, I really like working at the sewing machine store. The scary part? I'm good at selling, too. I've been back four days and in those four days, I've sold 4 machines. That average can't stay with me for long but, it is amazing while it happens. Yes, I sold one of the 'Big Ones' today. Second from the top of the line.
I have to admit however that I am not someone to put a person in a sewing machine that they do not want or need. As an example, I could've sold this woman the Rose (which is the sewing machine that I have) but, she didn't want the embroidery feature. I was reluctant to show her the machine that she bought because I thought it was more machine than she wanted but she turned out to be thrilled by it. I'm glad-- she left the store with a good feeling about me and the sewing machine and that's important.
Okay, I'm going to go organize myself-- thanks for coming by and have a great evening!

Update at 7:15pmThe Secret's Out!!
Well, I wasn't going to say anything yet but, since Brian has, I'd better explain: My mother died in 1986 from Ovarian Cancer. Her mother before her died from Ovarian Cancer. My two older sisters have had complete hysterectomies to ensure that they don't have the same problem and now, that I'm older (that's the only time I'll admit it!), I'm going to have the same surgery in July.
This surgery will prevent what I call "Family Tradition" from hitting me just as it can't hit my sisters. The surgery will also get rid of a few problems that I've started to develop over the past months. It will be debilitating (6-8 weeks of downtime) since I can't have the surgery in the new-fangled way with "three little incisions" but, Brian is a wonderful and patient husband and I am grateful to have him helping me through this (hopefully) last issue.
Although the relocation is permanent, we're going to move my sewing room downstairs and we'll use the guest quarters for our bedroom for a few weeks until I can climb the stairs again. That way I won't have to do the stairs for quite a while; no, I probably won't be posting for a few weeks. For me, the important thing was that I would still be able to fly to my nephew's wedding and I will be able to do so!!! YEAH!!!
Long, Long Day
I didn't get home from the store until 10:53pm last night! I tried to log into my email and when that failed, I threw my hands up in the air and said I was ready for bed. Truth was: I was ready for bed at 10:47pm but I had to get home to get there!
Agenda
Today will be a busy day with the usual shopping, etc. in addition to formulating the plans for turning the dining room into my sewing room. I've only got a six-hour shift at the store tomorrow but, I won't be home to help with the transformation so I'd like to get as much as possible done today.
More to post later, I'm sure. Have a good day!!
Yes, that was indeed-- a waste of a day, that is. We went to do our shopping and I found some deals on DVDs. A bunch of titles of what I consider to be my more favorite movies at really ridiculously low prices ($8.99 or less) so I couldn't pass them up.
Back from that, I hit the sofa to watch one of them and actually managed to do that without falling asleep. Yes, of course-- that came later. Whilst I was taking it easy, Brian was building my cutting table. It of course, is now so sturdy, I could use it for a second sewing machine table but I won't do that-- he doesn't know how to do anything badly or incompetetly. He is truly amazing!
I came upstairs to sew but I have realized that there is another VERY good reason that we have decided to move my sewing machine downstairs: it is bloody hot up here on the second floor!!! I know that the air conditioning is supposed to be here but I'm not sure where-- it is really hot up here. So, I'm glad we're relocating my sewing space-- can we live on the first floor for the whole summer? Nope, probably not but it is worth thinking about!!!
That said, however, I'm going to figure out how to start packing some things up for the relocation. That way, I can do the planning quietly and keep cool!
Stay cool yourself and have a great evening!!
Friday, June 13, 2003It happened . . .
. . . I'm sure it did-- I was just too tired last night to acknowledge it.
Thursday, June 12, 2003Long Day
And tomorrow will be the same. I worked until 9:30 tonight and then drove home in the rain (no huge surprise at the rain part, I'm sure). Its taken me an hour to unwind and then, of course, it all starts over again tomorrow. The store that houses our store (there's a national chain fabric store that we reside inside of) is having a BIG sale tomorrow and are extending their hours as well. As a result, we're extending our hours-- its not like we can close the place down when everyone around us is still in the store. Tomorrow night will be until 10pm plus close-out-- I can hardly wait.
Pick Up
We're having to pick-up the Northeast northeastern-most region again at work. We had it for awhile and then Debra took it over and then Debra went on maternity leave and so we had it back but then she came back from maternity and took it back and now she's overwhelmed so we're probably going to get it back! Whew!! Yes, indeedy, that's the way it seems sometimes.
In early February, I revised an agreement that, apparently, put the company into so far into shock that they've only been able to reply today-- it took nearly four months to hear back from them so that's what we're guessing. Yes, the northeast is a fun region-- NOT!!!!
Anyway, work will be busy over the next few weeks because of end-o-quarter, as usual. Should be a lot of fun trying to balance the two, let me tell ya!!

While this may seem like a short post, if you consider how tired I am, it seems like volumes!! As always, thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful night!
Wednesday, June 11, 2003Change of Plans
My tummy was a bit upset so instead of going to quilt guild, I'm staying home tonight. That's okay-- since I'll be out the next two nights, its nice to spend some time with Brian and Sally, too.
Tomorrow night is a "regular" shift but Friday night is an hour longer because of the chain's "fire fly sale" (?). I don't know but I have to pull a five hour shift that night, that much I do know.
Slow News Day
It must be-- I have very little to report. More progress was made on the bursitis in my knee. In fact, that's the only pain left in my knee which is good. I had had a sharp pain flare up when the Thompsons' were here but that has now gone away (finally!), leaving only the bursitis left to treat.
I've been working on the dress for the wedding in August and, as usual, my mind is going 50-miles-an-hour! I've been trying to work wiht the pattern that I bought online a few weeks back but, the more I work with it, I think its more dress than I want to deal with in August. I'm still working on that one so I'll think on it some more and let you know what I end up with for the occasion.
I'm going to go do some research online, in fact, for patterns and see what I can find-- tomorrow would be a good time to pick it up since I'll be at the store anyway.
Thanks for dropping by, as usual-- Sally says "Hi" in her usual sweet nature.
Take care of yourselves and have a good evening!
Tuesday, June 10, 2003Wild About Harry!
From the United Kingdom, my friend David writes:
I've just been reading your musings for Monday and noticed you've ordered the new Harry Potter book. The reason I'm mentioning this is because on Thursday my Royal Mail depot are sending 14 top size trucks down to Amazon.co.uk, at Milton Keynes just to pick up orders that are already been placed online. It is the biggest pre release movement we have ever done so it give you some idea of the size of the phenomenon.David works for the Royal Mail so he would definitely be the one "in the know", as it were!I'm told that the third movie will be out this Christmas and the 4th goes into taping soon. The thing is that this is the one character that has gotten folks of all ages, with and without kids, to start reading again-- reading and reading voraciously!! Quite a phenomenon, indeed!!
As always, thanks for writing David-- my best to Jenny and the kids!
Speaking of Distances . . .
I received an email last night for a sewing "job" due six months from now-- I can handle that-- for a tuxedo jacket. The lady wants a tuxedo jacket made from purple fabric with black satin lapels but the fittings are going to be a bit tough, me thinks: she's located in Atlanta. Ya never know, I could be sent there for a visit and it would be nice timing for a fitting in November, dontcha think? Hmmm, maybe I'll have to start working on John?? Yup, I think so!!
We'll see if that one comes out but I have so many sewing jobs of my own to do and then there's Allex-- she's a creative woman, indeed! Has a lot of patterns that she's bought that have never put sewn up. Maybe I'll be helping her out some more soon-ish.
I've got a bit before I go to sleep so maybe I'll start some measurements and pattern re-sizing.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening and/or night!
Monday, June 9, 2003Books Galore!!
Brian and I just spent a few minutes online at Barnes & Noble buying books. He picked up six or seven of the Terry Pratchett books that he has discovered and I picked up the new Hilary Rodham Clinton book along with a pre-order on the new yet-to-be-released Harry Potter book. I know that I will never hear the end of buying the Clinton book from Bob Thompson but I can always hope. He encouraged Brian to buy the Libertarian candidate's book (Sorry, Bob-- I can't remember his name) so I figure the Democrats deserve equal shelf space in our home.
Project to Start
While I'm working on the quilt project that I've got started, I also have a dress to work on for my nephew's wedding. I've decided on a style that was "in style" when his parents were married and using the fabric that is a combination of the colors of their wedding. To help with the making of that dress, I picked up a book at the store yesterday: Fast Fit which will help with getting the pattern adjusted the way that it needs to be adjusted to be right for the style.
Since I won't be working at the store until Thursday, I'll get started on that tomorrow night.
In the meantime, I've got a bit of reading to do on the subject and I've just realized how late it is so I'm going to get this uploaded now before I fall asleep at the keyboard!
Thanks for dropping by, as always and have a great evening!
