Short Shift
I was signed up for an 8-hour shift today but, I decided that I didn't want to do that since I didn't need to and I was picking up an extra night this week. I have to work tomorrow night in addition to Tuesday and Thursday so since I was picking that up, I decided that I would leave an hour early tonight. After it slowed down, I checked out and came home.
Upon arriving at home, I changed my clothes and promptly crashed on the sofa for a little more than an hour. Man, I needed that nap!! I had a fairly busy day-- I "sold" two machines; both people were going to come back later in the week to let me know their final decisions. These are high-end machines so it isn't surprising that they want to think about it for awhile.
And The Raffle Winners Are . . .
US!! The Southern Comforters which is the Guild that I'm going to be joining this week, sold raffle tickets to give a quilt away at their annual guild quilt show. Even though I wasn't a member, I sold $60 worth of tickets, including buying $15 for ourselves. Tonight, we got the call: We-- Marcia & Brian-- won the quilt!!! I was so surprised!!! On Wednesday night, they'll give me the quilt and pillows and simultaneously announce that I'm joining the Guild. Apparently a Guilt member has never won the quilt prior to this time and, technically I'm not a member yet so that's still true to a degree.
Recupation
Tonight, as I said, was spent recuperating from the day so no sewing. With the work schedule the way it is along with physical therapyand going to the quilt Guild on Wednesday, I won't be able to sew until Friday night, or maybe a little bit on Wednesday night. I'll miss that-- I'm excited at getting the sewing projects that I've got finished but then, I'm going to take a long weekend in the next couple of weeks, with no store work or regular job, and sew and spend time with Brian-- I miss him a bunch, too!!!
I've gotta get my vitamins/pills organized for the week now. I'll try to get something up here tomorrow night-- have a great evening!

Update at 7:45pmTo Start . . .
Yes, laying out a quilt on the dining room floor requires me to be on my hands and knees-- note the plurality there-- and yes, it went fine. The size of the quilt is usually the biggest problem and, in this case, that was no exception even though the quilt is not huge. I did finish the basting last night and rolled it to "dry" and set up over night. Perhaps I'll get a chance to start the quilting process later but today, for the most part, is going to be set for sewing spring clothes.
I have several patterns and fabrics from which to start sewing and have lots of grand ideas for clothes that I hope to finish soonish, since I don't plan to wait for Easter to begin wearing spring clothes. By the way, I keep forgetting to mention that I've found a new website: SewingPatterns.com which is GREAT for perusing the selections on the market as well as ordering patterns.
More PT
This afternoon, I have a physical therapy session after which, my physical therapist may be coming over to have me measure and alter a dress for her. If I get to do the alterations for her, it would be fun but, it is not a requirement for me-- I have enough things to do on my own, as I'm sure you would agree.
More later (if my machine doesn't get torn up) so take care for now and have a nice morning and afternoon!
That's the thing with "New Concepts"-- they always lead to questions like: "Why isn't it working???" Yes, well, I'm working on making it work-- I'll get it...eventually. In the meantime, there's a bit of frustration to deal with but that too is nothing new.
PT Progress
Physical Therapy went well today. I had to do the silly balancing tricks again but, unfortunately as I told them, I wasn't balanced before I had the surgery, why would I be now? They laughed but made me do the trick just like the other physical therapy place made me do it. Not fair but, I'll keep working it-- its still better to have to do physical therapy than it is to have the pain that I had before surgery.
One More Quirk
There's still one more quirk to go with the rebuilding of my system: my email has been lost for the last three months!! Not good but Brian can fix it and will as soon as I relinquish the machine to him for the night.
That being said, as usual, I'm outta here-- have a GREAT evening!
Friday, March 21, 2003Disappearing Day
Yesterday was one of those "Days that Don't Happen" for me. I was busy at the office and then sent off for a shopping trip to the fabric store (since I'm the office's "expert") and on to work for a 4-hour shift, including closing by myself. Actually, my entire shift I was there alone-- don't worry: it was extremely quiet due to the rain storm that was moving through the area. I sold one of the lesser expensive machines early on and then talked with a woman for quite some time later in the evening. She's a new quilter so it was fun talking with her about quilting-- we both got excited about the fabrics and designs that are "out there" in the quilting world. Lots of fun.
The close went well-- it didn't balance but not due to an error on my part. One of my co-workers didn't complete a charge transaction which is going to mess with the totals for the day. I called the woman who would be opening the store the next day and explained to her the problem. Then, I finished up the close and got out of the store "on time". That was fun-- knowing that I got it done right the first time that I was alone.
I was tired by the time I got home but had to pay attention to Sally-- she'd gotten a bath in my absence-- and wanted to talk with my husband (that's another thing I miss from being gone at night-- talking with him). I still ended up in bed and asleep by 11pm which was needed. I felt rested by the time I got to work and even went into the office early for a change.
Getting There
My computer isn't "right" yet but Brian's still working on it. I've got some labeling to work on tonight but other than that, I'm [this close] to starting the quilting process on Pat's quilt--YEAH!!!
Speaking of which, I need to get started-- I've got a lot of sewing to do!
Have a great evening!
Wednesday, March 19, 2003Fried-- a bit . . .
I'm pretty tired tonight but part of the reason may be that I've started physical therapy. I don't have much to do because I've got all but 3% of my normal range of motion-- yes, I am doing really well. I've got a bit of thigh-muscle weakness but I've got the go-ahead to get back on my bike along with some other exercises that will help to bring my muscles back. The therapist noted that both of my legs have weakness-- probably due to the surgery in my left knee, as well according to her. Interesting that my right, most-recently-surgerated knee is nearly as good as my left, eh? I thought so, too.
Seamstress-To-Be
The therapist has a dress that she wants altered and may be asking me to do for her when I go back to my next session on Saturday. She's going to be the maid of honor in a wedding but the dress is HUGE for her (she's an itty-bitty little thing!!) so she needs it taken in as well as hemmed. Now, I need to figure out what to charge for it!! If you have any idea what alterations go for these days, please feel free to let me know-- I'd appreciate the input!!
Silent Auction
The
Southern Comforters is the quilt guild that I'm going to join next month. They're having their quilt show this coming weekend and there will be a "Silent Auction" for small-ish wall-hangings that are made by members. I'm not a member yet but I thought I'd make them something so, the picture at left is it: a Debbie Mumm panel wall-hanging. Cute, huh? I've got a double-panel wall-hanging that I'm also making as a bit of hand-quilt work to keep me busy while watching television sometimes.
Some New Fun
On Sunday I was having some fun playing with my embroidery stuff-- I had a lot of fun with making this design. This is going to be a little gift for a special niece of ours who had a birthday recently . . . I think she'll like it.
Speaking of which, I've got some more label design to work on so I'll bid you a good evening. As always, thanks for coming by and have a good one!
Tuesday, March 18, 2003Home Late
Its almost 11pm as I write this-- I'm tired and I've got physical therapy tomorrow afternoon SOOOOOO, I know this is short (obviously) but I'll get back to you tomorrow.
Thanks for your patience and have a great evening!
Monday, March 17, 2003Of Mice & Men . . .
. . . Uhhh, make that "Woman" . . . I had every intention of coming back here yesterday but, my computer had other plans. I still don't have full access to it but I had to get something to "print" on my sewing machine so Brian stopped the process-- its only 22% of the way finished with an astonishing 65 hours to go!!!
Yikes-- I won't be back here for days at that rate. I think once it gets past this one "cluster" of memory, it'll be faster but, in the meantime, Brian's spending a lot of time on my computer and I am not.
Good Report
The doctor appointment for my first post-surgical visit went very well this morning. I explained to "Wonder Doctor" that I was an over-achiever when it came to demanding things of myself with my healing. He thought that was a pretty good way to be-- that way I'd heal faster. Brian bragged me up good (about not using crutches to walk the stairs and making myself USE the muscle in that knee, etc.) which also made me feel good.
The doctor ordered physical therapy which I have scheduled to start on Wednesday. That means I'll go to physical therapy on Wednesday and Friday and the "other work" on Tuesday and Thursday and Sunday, in addition to picking up an occasional extra shift (like next Monday).
Yes, as usual, there is never a dull moment around here. I've got a couple of picks to share with you but, Brian needs to get back on my machine. I want to let him cuz I want this to get "fixed" as soon as possible!
That said, I'm outta here-- As usual, thanks for coming by and have a great evening!
