Happy Mother's Day!!
For those of you to whom that applies, I hope you've had a nice day. I did-- Sally and I went to Auntie Lee & Uncle Jim's house to visit with Ebony for a little while today. That was our treat to each other this Mother's Day.
Idle Hands
Okay, so my sister and I got to talking about the phrase "Idle hands are the devil's tools" and the only thing we were able to determine for sure is that it is an English (as in United Kingdom) phrase. SOOOO, calling all of my English/United Kingdom readers . . . with whom did that phrase originate?? The GoEnglish.com Idiom Dictionary has a nice write-up about it explaining the phrase but, unfortunately, does not clarify who is to be given credit for the original utterance. Please let me know at your earliest opportunity-- it'll save it from bugging us for the next few weeks!!
My Idle Hands?
Well, as you can see, I rarely have idle hands. When I finished the last of the tops last night for Allex, I worked on the business site (thanks again to all for the comments and input) which is now finally revised. Then, just as I returned from Lee & Jim's this afternoon, I found that Allex had called and, it turned out, she needed a costume for one of the kids' plays finished by tomorrow. Well, actually, she needed two but the paper mache' costume was one that she was already working on at home-- whew!! So, Scott came over with the fabric and a little more than an hour later, I called him to come pick up the finished garment. Pretty fun!!
Last night and this morning I was working on a skirt for myself but I think I'm going to go back to trying to finish the quilt for Pat-- this poor woman is probably thinking that she's never going to get her quilt!!! Yes, Pat-- its actually pretty close to being finished. It'll happen-- SOON, in fact!!
Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you all tomorrow night!! Have a good afternoon, evening and night!

And UpdateSally's Competition
That's what I'm turning into!! Yeesh!! I had a FOUR hour nap this afternoon!! I do not have any idea where that came from!! (The weird part? I'm yawning as I type this!!) I woke up a couple of hours into the nap but decided to lay back down for a few more minutes-- 120 or so!!
In between, I went to get my nails filled and a pedicure which I haven't had for a year or so and, of course, more sewing. I have now finished all four of the shorter-sleeved shirts that Allex wanted. Scott came over and picked them up for her tonight so she's set on clothes for a little while. Not bad, combining my two favorite things in the world: Sleeping & Sewing into one day, eh? Good life if you can find it.
Bitten Off More . . .
It seems that my re-work of the new website has caused me a lot of things to work up. I'm having to go through all of the photographs and find things that I haven't posted here or there or on Sally's page or wherever!! There are a lot of unposted pictures so I'll be straightening that out for the rest of the night, I believe.
As I get things caught up, I'll let you know about it so that you can get caught up, too. Much to do so I'd better get to it!
Take care, thanks for stopping by and have a good evening!
Please note that I have updated and revised the business website-- as always, please let me know if you find any links missing or typos!! Thanks!!
Friday, May 9, 2003What is it About Fridays??
Is it the fact that it is the end of the week or is it that we so look forward to Fridays that if Friday came on Monday we'd be even happier yet? Confused? Yeah, well, welcome to my world!!
Its been a long week and appears that it will be a fun weekend filled with-- you guessed it-- SEWING! Allex came by to pick up the first two of four tops tonight and, obviously (or at least to me it is obvious), I'll be finishing the other two at some point over the weekend.
Too Cute!!
This morning, the alarm went off once so I hit the snooze button. The alarm went off a second time and Sally, in her inevitably cute manner, climbed up with her front paws on the stool and nudged my arm. She was smiling at me as I opened my eyes-- that was just too cute! I nudged Brian who verbally stated it aloud for us both: "She is too cute!"
She and I had some cuddle time tonight. I tried to bring her upstairs after I'd finished up sewing for the night but, she was too antsy and couldn't settled down so she ended up back downstairs.
We have some new pictures of her, of course-- the most popularly viewed dog on the internet, I swear!!
Anyway, I'm outta her for tonight with a nail appointment tomorrow morning.
Have a good evening and morning tomorrow!
Thursday, May 8, 2003Busy Evening
Work was okay but the fun part was sewing when I got home from work. Yes, I know there's more to life but I don't know that I see all that much else of it. I really enjoy it, ya know? Its hard to find things that one enjoys in this world and I do enjoy this so I want to bask in that enjoyment.
Ahhhh, yes, it is fun.
Sally's Improvement
Sally is improving every day-- you can see her doing something she couldn't do last week like going down the stairs without slipping/sliding/rolling. Yes, that's a Good Thing, indeed. She is beginning to get the feel of what her new depth perception is like. Although it is a strange milestone, she is starting to catch food-- like popcorn-- again. Tonight I had popcorn and she caught four in a row and overall about half of what I tossed to her. I think that's a major improvement!
As I think Brian and I have both said, during the stroke, she must've lost additional sight and hearing-- she was deaf acting before but now seems completely confused if I call her name from another room. Tonight, I came down the stairs and she was looking toward the dining room as though there was something in there. I seriously doubt that she sees the same ghosts that I do so I figured she heard something-- maybe me-- and couldn't see where I was coming from because of a vision loss.
Oh, well-- she's still the loving, sweet-natured dogter that she's always been-- that hasn't changed an iota!! Thanks again to all of you who have been writing about her and your cats or dogs situations. We appreciate your concerns, kind thoughts and words of encouragement-- all three of us!!
I'm fading fast tonight-- gonna call it a night!
Have a great evening!
Wednesday, May 7, 2003Steam Powered
By 7:30 tonight, I'd run out of steam and was almost grateful for the thunder storms that were rolling through the area. We had to turn off all major appliances so that gave me my excuse to stop for the night. Then, I was watching the usual nothing that's on television at 8pm on Wednesday night when I realized that I wasn't tired anymore!! Yeah-- another 1-1/2 hours of sewing later and I've got two tops cut out and the shoulders together on one of them.
I really do enjoy sewing!!
Work Continues
On the new website, I'm making up new colors and logos and pages so it is going to be vastly expanded when you see it next. I will probably be able to launch it (again) next week sometime. I keep visiting other people's sites and seeing things that I want to add to my site-- it is going to be a fairly visible site when all things are said and done.
I must get back to it as a matter of fact.
Thanks for stopping by, as always-- I appreciate the company. Take care of yourselvs and have a nice evening!

You inow what they say? What goes around, comes around. Hang onto something long enough and it'll come back into fashion!
Yeah, well-- I wore a new pair of pants that I'd made today. They were the 60's version of the wrap-around pants. To me, they looked like the kind of pants/skirt "ensemble" that my Barbie used to wear. Although this wasn't a skirt, it is extremely flattering. Everyone at the office raved about them and, yes, I am making two more pairs in the same pattern using different types of fabrics. The different types of fabrics will ensure that the styles actually look different even though they are made from the same pattern.
I'm going to make up a dress for my nephew's wedding this summer: I'm going to make a dress that was "in style" when his parents were married 30 years ago!! I'll tell ya: if I'd've only kept those blue velvet platform shoes!!!!
More to Sew
Allex came by tonight with more fabric for tops. Four more tops, to be exact. These are, again, cute fabrics for this pattern and, as in the case of the pants I described above, every time you use a different fabric or texture of fabric or color of fabric, you get a different look. That's the great thing about sewing clothes!!
Anyway, I'm going to finish up this last pair of my pants tonight and get started on her tops tomorrow evening.
Have a great night!
Monday, May 5, 2003Never Enough Time
Did you ever notice that there really isn't enough time in a day? As an example, I was happily and merrily sewing and realized that I needed to do this and that and that I hadn't very much time left to do it!! Last night was the two-hour season finale of "Alias" which I really couldn't live without seeing. On top of that, there were a couple of ABC (the network-- sorry, I don't feel like looking for the link) 50-year anniversary specials: Blunderful and Home Improvements. I loved Home Improvement when it was on so, of course, that was a no brainer. I did dishes during the Blunderful show's commercials but, when to put up a post? Oh, well, that never did happen, huh?
Sorry-- if its any consolation, there are a whole lot of upates from the business website that haven't been published either. I'm going to re-launch the site with a new color scheme and a lot more photos. Yes, its been a busy time around here.
Yesterday I finished a pair of pants-- the "old fashioned", new style of wrap-around pants. I love this pattern-- I loved it back in the 70s when it was first out, too. I was too young to wear it then but I'm not now-- nor am I too old for those of you thinking of wandering in that direction! I've got at least three patterns all together cut in that style and I'm excited to put them together because every pair of pants looks just a little bit different-- terribly fun!!
Work??
Maynard said it best, I guess. Work was work, followed immediately by Physical Therapy. Yeah-- what fun I have, eh?
Tomorrow night I've got to go to the vet's office cuz Sally's thyroid is up again thus, requiring a change in one of her medications. Fair's fair though-- Brian stopped to get my prescription tonight.
*****
Sewing to get back to-- have a great night!
