Archive of Marcia's Musings November 17-23, 2003Slowing Down
Today will be spent mostly slowing down, after the traditional warehouse run, of course.
Yesterday was high gear all day. It started early for me. Remember me telling you about Locks of Love?? Well, yesterday was donation day!! Yes, I was smart and took pictures before and after-- I like it and Brian thinks it "cute" (although I'm still not convinced that's a good thing) and besides, it'll grow back. In the meantime, I've given a couple of kids some hair!!!
When I got home, I helped (yes, ME!!) with the cleaning a bit but then read while Brian vacuumed. The end result for me is to be able to show you a couple of impressive pictures: First, my sewing room and Second, my fabric room (which you see a bit of in the hair pictures). I don't have nearly the fabric that many quilters have but I have quite a bit!
Now, I've got to go see if I can actually style my hair!! Wish me luck and have a GREAT day!
Friday, November 21, 2003I'm Sewing!!!
How's that for a GREAT way to start my vacation?!?!? I'll have NINE whole days to sew and shop and decorate and have FUN!!! Oh, and did I mention . . . SLEEP?!?!?
Well today started out busy at first but then, around noon, it slacked off and things were not very busy for the rest of the day.
I left work at 4:30 and went to weigh in (I've lost 21.6 pounds!) and then I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things that are needed to make it through the weekend. THEN, I finally got hom-- at 5:52pm I walked through the door and its a good thing that Brian was already home!! Sally would've been crossing her legs for sure!!
A little dinner and then I read another of a series of books that I'm reading: Janet Evanovich's "Full" series. Again fun and good stuff. I've bought the first of Sue Grafton's alphabet series but I'm not going to buy the rest if I like them. I'm going to break down and get a library card!! Barbara should be glad to hear that, eh?
Cookie Help??
Believe it or not, I'm thinking I'm going to break down and make Brian some Christmas cookies this year. Maybe if I make him cookies, he won't be such a Scrooge about the holiday! (I can hope, can't I?) Anyway, if you have a really good decoratable (is there such a word?) cookie-- one I can put icing and sprinkles on, please email me NOW!!
Man, I would love to get a good recipe! I've never even been able to make my mother's recipe right so I guess I need a lot of help in that department!!
I guess I'll post through the weekend but I'm pretty sure that I don't want to post all of next week-- afterall, it is a vacation, ya know?
Thanks for stopping by, take good care of yourself, okay? Have a good evening!
Thursday, November 20, 2003Getting Ready
You can tell that I'm getting ready to go on vacation: my phone is ringing off the hook, emails are flying and I'm BUSY!! I like being busy, you know but this is just down-right silly!!
The attorney that covered for me this past summer is going to cover for me next week but it is John's intention to have everything closed up by tomorrow's COB. He figures most everyone will be out the week of the holiday soooo, it is better to get everything finished sooner rather than later.
Other than that . . .
I'm going to call that a new category for this post, I always say it so why not? Nothing major is going on-- I'm almost ready to call myself "unpacked" but I'm not there and probably won't be until next week some time.
I'll live until it happens, for sure.
Thanks for stopping by-- its always appreciated!! Have a good evening!
Wednesday, November 19, 2003Hurrier/Behinder??
That old saying is true: "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get". This evening, I've been working on getting my sewing room and fabric room completely set up. Now, I've done that but my office is a mess!! What I did was take things that belonged in my sewing room to my sewing room from the fabric room and, when I had the fabric room finished, I reversed myself. Then I ended up with a bunch of stuff that really belonged by the software which is, of course, in my office so, guess what? Now the stuff that I moved from the fabric room to the sewing room has been moved to my office sooooo, I have one last room to finish: my office!
ARGH!!! There are times when I wonder if it will ever be done!!!
Further Update
Due to the fact that I'm no longer going to the sales conference, we decided (my boss, her boss and I) to move up my surgery date by a week. That way I'll be back in time to cover for my boss while she's on vacation the week after the sales conference. Obviously, this far in advance, it doesn't affect anything much from my end-- I do have to push myself to remember to get the blood work done a week or so in advance though!!
Okay, I believe that's all for tonight-- thanks for your patience through all of this and, just a word of warning, I'll be on vacation from the day job on Monday for a week so I probably will not be posting. Remember I've decided not to post when I'm on vacation? Yeah and there's lots of shopping to do before the crowds get out, don'tcha know?
Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening!
Tuesday, November 18, 2003Not Working
Okay, so maybe Mondays aren't such great days for me to change over the week's journal on anymore, eh? I just get too involved with stuff and then don't have time or energy (usually both) by the end of the evening. Last night was no exception and, if anything, worse than usual. The security guy came by to install and explain the security system, then we had to go to the home owners association meeting. In between, we quickly ate dinner and my sister was calling for our weekly chat by the time we got home. Just too much happening!!
When I got home tonight, I did some more settling into the sewing and fabric rooms. I have a problem in that I can't locate one of the thread spool holders that I use. I had it when we packed up and I know it wasn't in the house but I'll be hanged if I can find it now!! Man, that's really frustrating!
The family room is almost finished as everything has now been unboxed. I have yet to sort through all of the knick-knacks and decide what goes where but I'll get that finished by the weekend.
Kerry-Bear
In case you haven't read either Bob or Barbara Thompson's page yet, they had to send their oldest dog off this evening. Not a fun thng to do, I'm sure. Kerry was such a sweetie-- he looked like a bear. It'll seem weird not to see all three of the dogs together the next time that we see the Thompsons-- they'll miss him and so will we.
Change of Plans
The director re-thought her decision to have me leave the sales conference in January early-- she's decided I don't have to go and, rather than risk catching something (like I always do), I tend to agree with her. When my manager told me today, I was really grateful to not have to go-- I know I'd get sick.
Instead, I'll stay at the office and man the fort-- in case anyone needs anything done while they're in California for the meetings. That's a relief though-- I know it'll make me more healthy for that surgery a week later!
*****
Its been a rough few days for me, needless to say or I'd've been posting more frequently. Thanks for your patience and, have a good evening!
