Highly Over-Rated
You know what they always say, "Never say 'Never'"? Well, I know what they mean.
Nearly 7 years ago, as I was ending a bad marriage, I said "I am never getting married-- AGAIN!!" I didn't need to get married-- I had everything I wanted. I did want someone to spend time with and go on trips with and be with but I didn't need to marry that person, whoever he turned out to be.
Then, I met this guy . . . he swept me off my feet but I kept saying that we didn't need to get married. We certainly didn't need to get married to buy a house-- why did we need to get married?
Then, we got married [so much for "Never", eh?] and I figured out why we "needed" to get married: He is a kind, loving, intelligent, humorous, committed-to-me man and I am the luckiest woman in the world to have him in my life.
Then, I started say "Never" again. I said it in the context of buying a house-- something I'd always wanted to do but I said, "We'll never be able to afford a house!" He told me that I was wrong and that we would some day own a home of our own.
Now, this kind, loving, intelligent, humorous, committed-to-me man and I are buying a house.
Is it any wonder that I'm so happy with my life? I have the home that I have dreamed about and will be sharing it with the man of my dreams.
I'm going to do my best to never say "Never" again. I think I've been proven wrong more than sufficient for my evidence.
Other than that, I'm speechless at this point-- more than just a little aware of this amazed and overwhelmed feeling in my heart. I'm sure its not a heart attach so we're safe there, okay?
Hopefully, I'll catch you on the flip-side tomorrow night-- me and the kind, loving, intelligent, humorous, committed-to-me man are signing papers on the mortgage tomorrow.
I can't believe it-- yet!
Have a good night and/or Monday!
Friday, October 17, 2003Didn't Make It
Nope, I never made it to posting yesterday. I was just too tired and had little to say sooooo, it just made sense.
Yesterday would've been my parents' 62nd wedding anniversary-- some things you just never forget.
Like today is the 14th anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake that shook northern California REALLY hard. I remember that and it was very . . . moving experience that was not fun for a lot of people.
Our "Guests"
Brian keeps referring to his parents as "our guests" and I think that's interesting. We're going to do some walking around this weekend and next while they are here but in between, they're going to go to Pennsylvania and surrounding areas to see some other parts of the country. While they are here next weekend, we'll be able to show them the new house even though we won't be living in it yet. Whatever we do, it'll be a fun time, I'm sure!
Sally's Schedule
It appears that Sally has started to "not feel well" every other weekend. I say that because it was two weeks ago the last time that she was ill and, guess what? She got sick last night. This is very strange indeed. She seems to be a little perkier this morning but is still not interested in any food.
If you have any ideas about this ailment of her's, please feel free to let me know-- any enlightenment is better than none!
That said, I'll be outta here for the day-- take care of yourselves and, if I don't post over the weekend, have a REALLY terrific weekend!!
Wednesday, October 15, 2003Really Slow
It has been worse than the average "Slow News Day"-- it has been really, REALLY slow. Work was work and all is well there. Other than that, I did a little packing tonight and tomorrow night, we'll do a quick pick-up to prepare for Brian's parents' arrival on Friday evening. The weekend is bound to be a busy one followed by the closing-- hopefully-- for the house that we're buying. Whew!!
I may end up being very glad that it is a slow news day, eh?
Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening!
Tuesday, October 14, 2003My turn . . .
On Monday, Brian counted the moves that he's made over the years. Me? I've moved 26 times!!
1. Farm house to ranch that my parents' built
2. Rancher to Grandma's house
3. Grandma's house to Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids
4. Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids to to Alma, Michigan
5. & 6. In Alma, I lived in two different places
7. Then I moved back from Alma to Allendale to live with my parents.
8. Moved from Allendale with my parents to Grand Rapids
9. Grand Rapids to Dallas and lived with a friend
10. In Dallas, I got an apartment in the same complex that my friend lived in
11. Then I moved across town in Dallas to another apartment
12. Then I moved from that apartment in Dallas to Cincinnati, Ohio
13. Once in Cincinnati, I moved from an apartment to a condominimum
14. & 15. From the condominium, I attempted to move back to Dallas but . . . never quite got there so I ended up in another apartment in Cincinnati-- that counts as two moves.
16. From the apartment in Cincinnati I moved back to Allendale to live with my mother after my father died.
17. Then I moved from my mother's in Allendale to an apartment in Grand Rapids
18. I moved from that apartment in Grand Rapids to California in apartment with friends
19. Then I moved down the street into an apartment complex by myself
20. Then moved into a bigger apartment
21. From that apartment to I moved into a townhouse in Newark, California
22. From the townhouse in Newark to an apartment in Sunnyvale
23. Then Brian and I moved into a larger apartment in the same complex
24. After which we moved into the house in Sunnyvale
25. Then, as you know, we drove across country to Bowie, MD to the rental house and NOW,
26. FINALLY to our house in BowieNOW you should be able to understand why I keep looking at objects as I pack and say to myself "You see this? This will be the last time that I wrap this [glass, figurine, or whatever] in paper to be packed into a box!"
I am really tired of moving and more than ready to put down roots!! I've got the perfect man to do that with, too so I can see nothing but blue sky (despite the rain pounding on my window as I write this) in our future!
Score: Deer 1, Andy 0
Last year, around this time of year (as a matter of fact), a co-worker at our office went out bow-hunting for deer. He sat in a blind in a tree-bound deer blind waiting for the deer to come along so he could shoot them with his bow and arrow.
Finally, one came along and, Andy (the Deer Hunter) shot the arrow from his bow. Unfortunately, it had been awhile since Andy shot his bow and he forgot about the kick-back that they cause. He came a'tumblin' out of the deer blind and broke is right leg in about seven different places. That didn't matter, as Andy is quite used to having his knees, etc. operated on as a result of playing football in college.
Ah, but the harrassment he has taken from us co-workers is astounding but, alas, even a year later is not finished yet. It has taken on a new life form: a curtain for his office window.
I found some fabric with a deer head repeating in a block of burgundy framed by brown and tonight I made up the curtain. I need to get a rod to hang it on and, of course, get Andy out of his office for an hour or two so I can get the curtains hung. I'd feel sorry for him but he's so accident-prone, its comical.
Yes, we are sick people in my office-- you should be used to it by now!
'Nuf said for tonight-- I'm tired and Brian's already in bed so I'd better get in there and hope for a head-start on sleeping!
Take care, thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT evening!
Monday, October 13, 2003Busy-ish Day
My manager is on vacation this week so it is a bit busier around the office these days. That's a good thing, needless to say. Between that and getting caught up from being out of the office on Thursday and Friday, I was cookin' all day, let me tell ya!!
I like being busy-- I always have. I can't stand sitting around and doing nothing or waiting for people to get things back to me. No, I'm not the most patient person in the world but, I have fun. ;>)
9 Out of 9
I finished the ninth book in the series by Janet Evanovich tonight. No, you're right-- I didn't have that book before but, when we were at BJ's yesterday, it was in the stack and heavily discounted sooooo, I bought it! There's one more book in the series that I have to get and I can't wait but I will have to wait. I'll probably get it in a few weeks but, in the meantime, I am really having a good time laughing at this series of books-- the author has done a wonderful job of developing the characters.
Other than that . . .
The mortgage process continues apace . . . our paperwork is at the under-writers, whatever that means. Actually, its all good-- we will close on time, according to the translation that our realtor friend gave me today. Whew!! Only one week to go!!
I'm going to be moving on . . . as usual. Thanks for stopping by and take care of yourselves! Have a great evening!
