You can blame that on Janet Evanovich's "High Five"!! I would've been back after I finished packing my office (because I never got to any sewing, either) BUT, I picked up the book for my "lunch break" (a euphemism for cucumber with vinegar). Then, it was naptime, of course and the next thing I know, I'm deep into the book. So much so that, after checking out the topic of 48 Hours, I waived off Kobe Bryant (who really cares?) and finished the book-- a little over 300 pages in one day. This time, the book was ended in a way that makes you almost NEED to buy the next book-- she hadn't done that before in the other four I've read. I'm tempted to pack the other three or I'm afraid I won't get everything packed or sewed-up in time.
The other option is to go ahead and read them, get them out of the way and move on with life after I finish them. Nope, I'd better start some serious packing because next week, it'll be "serious cleaning" time. Brian's parents are coming for a visit and we are definitely excited about seeing them!!! They're going to spend the weekends with us and the rest of the time, drive short car trips through Pennsylvania, returning here the second weekend.
Cute Puppy
Yesterday, I took Sally with me to get gas for my Santa Fe and to go to the pet store. She was a hit, of course but, the funniest part was when she attempted to shoplift!! We were walking down the aisle and there was a bin of pigs' ears-- she reached out, snatched one and just kept walking!! I couldn't believe her!!! I snatched it out of her mouth (she doesn't have enough teeth to cause it damage-- or so I thought) and threw it back in the bin. Needless to say, we went back out that way and she looked longingly at them and then at me. Yes, she ended up with one. Brian's got a picture on his page today of her enjoying the ear. What a cutie!!
For Today
You know the routine: grocery store and BJ's. Then, more packing, more napping and some sewing. That's all I know for sure.
I did get about 80% of my office packed and so I think I'll work on finishing the outfit I'm making so that I can pack that up after cleaning next weekend.
I will try to get back here later, particularly if anything interesting happens. No guarantees and that way you won't be upset if I don't return-- right? Thanks!
Take care and have a wonderful day!!
Saturday, October 4, 2003Making Up
Here I am-- 10:07am as I write this post. Yes, I've neglected you, my gentle readers, but with good reason: I needed rest and relaxation!!
You see, I'm still pretty tired from working "overtime" on Tuesday so Thursday afternoon, when I got home, I went straight to my sewing table to start building an outfit that I've been wanting to wear. Its hard to wear something that hasn't been constructed yet so you see my reasoning behind getting it started now, don'tcha?
After a couple of hours sewing, Brian called to let me know that he was going to be home late and Sally would have to put up with taking dinner from me or be very hungry by the time he got here. She opted to try some of the "tainted Mommy food" rather than "starve" by waiting for Daddy to make dinner. (Lately, I do not make dinner exciting enough for her to take it from me-- if Brian makes dinner, he does this hand-slap thing and she just loves the heck out of it and gobbles up the food. Apparently the hand-slap thing makes the food taste better-- dogs!!)
There are three shows that I've been enjoying in the new television season that are on Thursday night: "Threat Matrix" (a bit of a stretch but it works for me-- you can see John Ashcroft all over those scripts!), "CSI" (need I say more?), and "Without a Trace" (which we started watching last year-- I like the concept of the show which is unique to anything else that I've seen on television). There went my Thursday night because by the time all three were finished, I had sand in my eyes and was having a hard time keeping my eyes open.
On Friday, it was much the same except that I napped for a bit when I got home from work and then made dinner. I sewed some more and then read for awhile and watched "Joan of Arcadia". That's a new show that I'm trying to decide what its about and who's agenda it represents. Definitely different though. It has the possibility of holding my attention another couple of weeks before I end up throwing up all over it. Last night, it came close.
Then I read some more and finished the book I was reading at 11:45pm. I can't help it: I'm hooked!! I've purchased 8 out of 9 of the "Stephanie Plum" series of books by Janet Evanovich. Needless to say, the stories are very engaging and, if I don't watch out, November 1 and the moving truck will come and I won't have anything packed up!!! ARGH!!! I've got the next four to go but I will have to read them sparingly, I can tell or I will get drawn in and not be able to get out of the habit of reading instead of packing.
Demands
The only thing on my agenda today, beside packing and sewing, is getting to the pet store to get Sally some of her sticks. She is completely out and that is not a Good Thing! I have to get there because if I don't, I'm going to get the biggest brown eyes staring weepily at me all night while she waits for her stick to be delivered. She will pester me and pester me (she has a very persuasive snout!) and I will feel horribly guilty so, I will be finding a way to get to the pet store today. Yeesh-- allright already.
Carb Cleansing
This weekend I've opted to do another carb cleansing on the LA Weight Loss Center diet. That means very little solid food and what food there is, is carb-free. Oh, boy! That's why I'm going to make sure that I'm very busy sewing or packing today. I should have a ton of fun, don'tcha think?
See??
I can make up for two days of not/barely posting!! And, to surprise you further, I may even update this later depending on whether something dreadfully exciting happens-- you never know with me!!
Take care and have a GREAT day!!
Friday, October 3, 2003I'm here . . .
. . . but I've been busy the last two days. I'll get a better update in tomorrow and let you know what's been happening the last few days.
Thanks for your patience and have a wonderful evening!
Wednesday, October 1, 2003Only 3 More
Wow!! Here it is almost the end of the year-- whatever will we do for the holidays?!?!? Okay-okay!! So its only October 1st but there are only three more months left in the year-- they really do go by faster and faster every year!!
What was I saying?
I thought I mentioned something yesterday about talking about the stats for September-- that, of course, was something I thought of but didn't actually say out loud or write anything down.
Anyway, for the month of September, there were nearly 16,000 page reads which is pretty good, I'd say. This was my second all-time best month for page reads which speaks volumes, I think.
There were some interesting searches done that lead to hits on my site:
getting ready for christmas - In September???? See, Honey-- there's somebody more excited about Christmas than me!!!
organize sewing room - Not yet but I will be in a few weeks when we move into our house!!
2003 current email addresses in current emails - Well, isn't that an interesting topic that I'm sure I didn't mention in that form. I'm telling you: you have got to use quotation marks in searches!!
sockpuppet - When did I ever talk about these? I don't recall that I ever did-- I know I never possessed one but, who knows where these things come from!!
There's one more that bothers me a bit and it comes in two forms:
supreme court interior pictures
or
pics of inside the supreme court
Why would you want them??? Seeing pruney people wearing black was not a big deal!!
Caught Up and . . .
Of course, it starts again. The end of the last quarter has happened and we're on to the next. I am negotiating a revision of an existing agreement with "the biggest company in the whole wide world" (ho-hum!). They are the only ones impressed by themselves, let me tell ya.
I'm working the document with the attorney that replaced me when I was out this summer. He (Josh) and I were on a call today with them and I took lead because I have a certain amount of familiarity with their agreements. (I don't remember why I have that familiarity but I do and I'm apparently the only one in the department.) This preliminary discussion took place in less than an hour and afterward, Josh called me back to compare notes. During that conversation, he paid me a compliment: he thought I handled their attorney's attempt at panicking over transferability well. He hadn't ever heard me on a call before and thought I sounded really professional and knowledgeable.
Surprise!!
Now the thing you have to know is that he is a personal friend of our general counsel who actually doesn't like anyone in our department. (No, there isn't one negotiator that she likes whether they be attorney or non-attorney-- she dislikes everyone or at least acts like she can't be bothered with us.) Anyway, having Josh go back to her with positive comments about me is a good thing or at least it can't hurt.
I'll keep you somewhat posted about this negotiation-- as much as I can divulge anyway. It should be fun and interesting.
*****
With that said, I'm outta here! I had a nap this afternoon but I'm afraid that's only getting me caught up from the last two or three nights and thank goodness for that!Anyway, as always, thanks for stopping by and have a great evening!
Tuesday, September 30, 2003Home at . . .
. . . 8:25pm. I'm exhausted.
More tomorrow, I promise! Have a good evening.
Monday, September 29, 2003Our Paperwork?
As far as I can tell, all of the paperwork that we had to provide to the mortgage company is now complete. Today I signed us up for home owners insurance and faxed that along with the statement and a couple of other things, to the mortgage company. I believe that's all and with three weeks to closing to spare!!
Whew!! This is quite a process! I'm glad we're not going to do this very often!!
To Make a Long Story Short
And I have to make it short-- tomorrow is the last day of the quarter. That, in and of itself, is enough but, to add insult to injury, my last conference call is scheduled to start at 5pm. Yes, it is going to be a very long day so I'd better get started on my sleep now.
I've got a lot to comment on from the last month but I can't get to it because of my lack of time here tonight. Bear with me-- Wednesday will be much better!
Thanks for stopping by-- I do appreciate it.
Take care and have a great evening!
