Saturday, August 7, 2004Our New Baby
Molly Sue has joined our little family. Molly is a black lab and she's a sweet-natured girl! She's adapted to her name easily (there were others I was considering but Maui to Molly is the easiest).
Lucy is adapting . . . that's about all I can say. She's trying not to kill Molly when Molly tries to come by me. Last night there were a couple of snarling matches but no scratches (which is a very good thing) and, today Lucy is much more relaxed. She "lets" Molly come to me a lot as long as she's allowed a visit shortlythereafter.
Molly thinks Lucy hung the moon-- she follows her every where. What Lucy barks at, Molly barks at . . . the neighbors already know there's a second, bigger dog here because there's a deeper bark at the fence. If Lucy takes off across the yard to bark at someone, Molly joins her and "lets" her get to the fence first. Lucy runs really fast but Molly's legs are much longer so its hard to tell if it isn't a matter of Molly letting her "win".
Nervous Nelly
Well, that's it-- its official: I'm nervous and anxious and excited and EVERYTHING that goes along with leaving on a 12-day trip to a foreign country next week!! Yeesh!!! If I had my way, I'd be packing today but, I can't. I can't because my clothes aren't all clean and they'd get wrinkled.
I'm worried about space-- I've got a lot of stuff that I'm bringing to my sister. It takes up a lot of space and I'm worried that I won't have room for the 12 days worth of clothes that'll be needed.
Its going to be a long week, or could you tell?
Hope you're having a good weekend!
Thursday, August 5, 2004Preparedness
You know me: gotta have everything lined up and ready to roll. Well, today, I finalized the arrangements for getting to and from the various airports that I'll be using in Brazil. Coincidentally, my brother-in-law wrote to tell me that the ticket that I had reserved was now firmly purchased (Yes, I'll be reimbursing them). Yes, indeedy!! All of my ducks are lining up nicely-- they'll be marching off fairly soon, eh?
Excited? Me??? NAH!!! Yeah, right. I called the credit card company today to make sure that they knew not to stop allowing charges because they were coming from Brasil. How else will I pay for the hotel in Sao Paulo?? (Okay, and shop a little . . . just a bit. ;>) )
As for work, the agenda for what I'll be discussing with the office staff has also been forwarded to California for their review. I've gotten one set of comments back so far and I have a call with the General Counsel tomorrow to review some additional things as well as that agenda.
Quack, Quack . . .
Working from Home
I'm going to work from home tomorrow-- its been kinda slow this month so far. Lee is on vacation and I thought, as a result of that, that I should work in the office but it hasn't been busy enough to warrant that from what I can see. Well, it is the summer, right?
I know of at least two people that are going to have fun this weekend: enjoy yourselves!!
As for the rest of you, I'll probably catch up to you on Saturday-- we've got a little day trip to make tomorrow evening so I won't have time to post.
Have a good one.
Wednesday, August 4, 2004Fairly Good Reason
I've got a fairly good reason for not posting last night: I was reading a book! "In the Still of Night" by Jill Churchill. An engagingly written book-- I kept thinking to myself "Do I like this book? Should I keep reading it?" and then, fairly quickly, I was through reading it so I must've liked it. Hmmm . . . still thinking about that, I guess.
New Books
I picked up a couple of new books for my trip to Brasil-- plane reading, mostly but the authors are two of my favorites: Laura Levine and Jennifer Apodaca. I'll let you know how those work out, too . . . maybe.
Other than that . . .
Work has been work; Lee is on vacation tho its no big deal at work. Apparently, this is still vacation season for our sales folks as we've had very little extra work thrown at us in her absence.
I'vebeen working on a stained glass quilted wall-hanging for my sister in Brasil. It is not intended to be brought with me next week (thank goodness!) but rather for Christmas. I'm having a bit of difficulty laying the lines out straight and deciding on the best way to lay them out in the first place. If you quilt and you read this, please feel free to email me with ideas and/or suggestions.
On that note, I'm outta here-- have a good one!
Monday, August 2, 2004Phase
Apparently, as evidenced by my lack of posting, I'm in a phase where I am at a loss as to what to write here. This lack of knowing what to write isn't based on having no activity worthy of reporting but that I'd rather be doing the activity rather than the reporting. Similar to the theory that I love to read but hate "book reports" or similar reviews so I usually forget to even tell you what I'm reading, let alone what I think of it.
Well, I'll work on it, how's that? Okay, its a deal!!
Accomplishments
I did manage to clean my office on Friday (more on that in a second) and my sewing room and fabric room on Saturday and Sunday. By the way, it did not take me two days to do those rooms: other distractions happened along the way, okay? (Distractions = Napping)
Okay, so when I was cleaning my office on Friday I noticed that I really, really dislike my office. I have no drawer space for filing anything and I have less desktop space. Hmmm, what to do? Well, I talked it over with the creative hubby (thank goodness-- what would I do without him) and he'll be making me a desk over the next few weeks. The vast majority of work will probably take place while I'm in Brazil (and don't think that isn't planned!) but we'll pick out the file drawers this coming weekend. We got the paint last weekend and I have fabric in my stash that I'm going to use for my office curtains/valance. I'll like it much better, I'm sure.
How about that? I did pretty good, didn't I? Yep, I thought so, too.
More tomorrow-- have a good evening!
