Archive of Marcia's Musings June 28-July 4, 2004Lots Accomplished!!
The majority of the day was spent finishing up little things to bring to California with me. I've got towels for gifts as well as the quilts (in varying sizes). I also finished up the outfit that I was upgrading for myself yesterday: a plain lime green t-shirt and lime green crop pants are plain no more! I've cut out all of the neck wraps that I'm making for my sister in Brazil (in addition to the towels and ornaments for their church bazaar) and am sewing them up tomorrow.
THEN, I believe I can start work on the really big project I have to finish before my trip to Brazil: my sister's stained glass wall-hanging. I wasn't intending to finish it this early (its for Christmas) but, I'm going down there so I might as well bring it with me, right? See? That's what I thought, too!!
Other than sewing, sewing and more sewing, the only other thing I did was take a nap with Lucy this afternoon. A nice way to spend a three-day weekend, don't you think? Me, too!!
Anyway, I'm off for now but have a good night!
Friday, July 2, 2004Burned Out!
I believe it is related to the quarter-end (DAHHH!!!), but I am extremely burned out. I worked for awhile today on an agreement that I'm working with one of my favorite sales reps from Florida. He's a nice guy and, normally, I have no problem with his customers. (Normally, I have no problems with anyone's customers!)
Unfortunately, Rob has found hisself and me a real winner-- the guy that I'm negotiating with is a small-minded attorney who thinks the sun rises and sets around him and every word that comes out of his mouth. (He must because he talks sooooo much, I don't get a chance to tell him that the language is changed.) One of his comments from an email yesterday was: "I'm not an English major but . . . ". I wrote back, "Thankfully, I was a Language Arts major in college and I can tell you that that sentence is constructed correctly."
We started out the third phone call today with him being fairly nice but he soon started yelling and, whenever I tried to talk, he cut me off and interrupted me. At one point, Rob asked me if I could do the language that the attorney wanted and I said, "I already have-- I just haven't had the opportunity to speak without interruption to let you all know."
What a jerk!! And I'm not done with him yet and I won't be until next week some time. Oh, joy! Man, do I need a vacation!
Other than that . . .
I've been sewing up a storm since I stopped working. I've put a design on a pair of crop pants and put a smaller, matching design on a t-shirt-- really cute! I've also hemmed a pair of pants, sewed the binding on two small baby quilts (really small) and hand-sewed the binding to one of them already. Tomorrow is more of the same and I'm going to finish the ornaments and such in the basement-- I need to get them wrapped up so I know how much space to allow for the trip to Brazil.
I plan on having a nice, relaxing, fun-filled three-day weekend and I can hardly wait!
Stay safe!! Have a good evening yourself!
Thursday, July 1, 2004I Survived!!
Well, at least, I think I did. We (Lee and I) waited for the last deal to come in at 7:30 and left to go get drinks and dinner. Between 5 and 7:30, I was IM'ing John every 15-20 minutes to find out if the BIG contract we were waiting on had been received. FINALLY, I got the word that it came in!!! Man, that was a relief!! We'd actually been done with the negotiations last week but, it took their signature, legal and accounting process three days to execute the documents (yes, there were two of them!) and issue the PO which is required on large purchases.
John has called a meeting for this morning at 11am and has invited me and my management to attend. He kept telling me "Congratulations" yesterday and last night but, I'm not sure if that was the right phrase or if it should've been "Its a BOY!!" -- I felt like I'd given birth!!
Sooooo, now that we're back to "normal", whatever that is, I'll probably post more later but wanted to shoot this up to you so that you knew your patience was well-deserved.
Thanks for stopping by and for being patient! Have a GREAT day!
Monday, June 28, 2004Yesterday . . .
Grocery/warehouse store run and then, I went on to the fabric store (again-- I did the same on Saturday) because I forgot to buy some thread I needed for the small quilts that I'm making. In the process, I picked up some fabric that I'm going to use to make pillows for my friend, admin and co-worker, Jennifer in Atlanta. She's due back here in August but I doubt that I'll have time to finish them before then-- that and I need the fill/stuffing to be on sale in order to make four pillows!!
When I came home from that trip, I made lunch and then I went out and uprooted, literally, the summer daffodils and planted impatiens in the three big pots. There was a smaller pot that got some creeping ground cover that looks like miniature ice grass (a California thing) that got planted in one of the unoccupied pots.
Then, of course, it was shower and nap time for Lucy and I-- I took the shower and the nap, she just got the nap! After our nap-- I set an alarm so I wouldn't sleep too long-- I read the rest of "The Master Quilter" which is part of the Jennifer Chiaverini "Elm Creek Quilt" series. Although it sounds like the last in the series, she has just signed a three-book deal with her publisher so there will be at least . . . three more books. I'm actually kinda glad to hear that-- I want to see how the characters come out.
Yeah, Right!!
I picked up something called "Borders Made Easy" a few months back-- supposedly an easy way to make borders on quilts with neat designs. Okay so the easy part is sewing them but pasting them together is a pain!!
I shouldn't complain-- I just made one of the prettiest borders I've ever made on a quilt! To the naked, untrained, distant eye, it can be seen as being perfect but, the truth of the matter is, there's always a little "bad juju" that has to be released from every quilt.
End-o-Quarter Nigh
As the quarter winds down, temperaments are on a very tight upward wind. We did get one big deal completely finished today and another is on its way to me tomorrow. Lots of fun-- I'll be working late on Wednesday night for sure and probably on Tuesday night, as well.
Oh, well-- its a living!
Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate your patience when I'm too tuckered out to put up a post. Take care and have a nice evening!
