Today, we received an email from my brother-in-law: my sister is home from the hospital!!! YEAH!!! You can't keep a good Dutch girl down!!!! They were able to convince the doctors that they had enough people lined up to help take care of her and so, she would get just-as-good-care as if she were in the hospital. Half-heartedly, they agreed-- the hospital was good but she wouldn't be able to get the one-on-one attention that an army of friends and a loving husband can give her.
Of course, when I received the email, I immediately called her and thankfully, was able to speak with her for quite awhile. I relayed all of your greetings, well wishes, thoughts and prayers to her-- she was gratefully surprised that so many people wrote to me about her!
Whew!! I'm so glad that she's feeling better-- this is literally a "Thank God" time!!!
New York, New York!!
So Lee and I are off tomorrow morning to that "toddling town" for three days and two nights of noise, polution and people!! I really am looking forward to the train ride and having fun with her. The hours are going to be difficult in working with my job and the negotiations that I have pending. Should have that remain interesting for the first three days of the week, eh?
More by Thursday?
Okay, maybe by Wednesday but don't hold me to it-- I'll be getting in early-ish (our train arrives around 5pm) but there's the unpacking and stuff to do. I will try to post but I won't be taking any pictures so don't expect a full trip report, okay?

Check out Brian's page tomorrow-- I'm sure he'll have a lot of pictures from his/our adventures this afternoon!!Take care and thanks for stopping by-- have a good Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, okay?
Saturday, May 15, 2004First & Foremost
My sister, Susan (in Brazil), had a little stomach pain yesterday. Finally, after she complained about it a couple of times, her husband (thankfully) insisted she go see the doctor. Now, the part I'm not sure of is if they went to a "doctor office" or if they went to an emergency room but, in any event, Sue ended up having emergency surgery last night!!! Her spleen was removed because it had "pieces broken off" but, apparently, wasn't a full rupture.
PLEASE think happy thoughts, warm wishes and lots and lots of prayers for her quick recovery.
I so worry about them being down in Brazil-- if they were in Michigan, would this happen to them? I don't know but, according to the doctor, if they had waited any longer, we might have lost her. Thank goodness her husband insisted she go to be checked!!
Strawberry Fields . . . Forever
A few weeks ago, I came to a stand still in my weight loss. The counselors at the center looked at my journal and remarked to me that I was in a rut and needed more variety. Apparently, having three oranges a day does not constitute variety so I went to the store. I looked around and found that there wasn't a lot of fruit that I liked-- apples and . . . strawberries?
I bought some strawberries and brought them home. For breakfast the next morning, I was popping them in my mouth and loving the flavor of them!! It had been more than 20 years since I ate any amount of strawberries and man, I was really enjoying them!!
Last week, I decided that if I grew strawberries, I could extend the eating season because of the fact that I can begin buying them at the store in April and then continue to pick them through June if I grew some for myself. That's when I asked Brian about growing some in our garden. I don't need a lot of space, just a little-- no three acres of strawberries fields for me!! Well, for sure, I know how to grow them-- all too well!!
He's just finished making up the box for my strawberries and tomorrow we'll go look for some plants. I can remember the names of the good ones (flavor and size) so hopefully, I can find them!
Wonders will never cease, eh?

Well, I'm going to sign off for tonight and see if I can convince him to start the grill up.Have a good evening and please, remember my sister in your prayers!
Friday, May 14, 2004Ready for a Weekend!!
Man, oh, Man!! I am definitely ready for a weekend!! No commitments other than the usual and then, there's the preparation for the trip on Monday. Its actually going to be a fairly "dressy" trip which I'm not crazy about but, oh, well-- different strokes, eh? I just prefer to dress more casually for work which isn't necessarily a good thing.
While there are no major plans around here, there are always the inevitable things that take up our time like errands and sewing and napping. Ah, napping . . .
Prospects Improved
Our interview today went well; both Lee and I liked the candidate almost immediately. There is still one more person that Lee would like to interview before she makes her decision but we should be completely hired-up by the end of next week.
The way that it is working out, I will definitely be getting New England along with maintaining the Southeast. That makes me (and John) very happy! That also means I'll be making a trip to the Boston area at some point in the next few months. I am anxious to work with the group that's up there-- some of them I've worked with over the last 4-1/2 years already so it should be fun to expand the relationship.

I guess that's it for now-- not much but still, I'm here. Thanks for being there and I'll "talk" with you tomorrow-- have a good evening!
Thursday, May 13, 2004Boring Day
Its not so much that it was boring as in "nothing to do" (because that was not the case), its just there's nothing new and exciting to tell you about. We're still interviewing and we're still looking but so far, not much success for a new contract manager or two.
Contracts are progressing which is a good thing, needless to say but nothing major or exceptonal to tell you except that I'm dealing with two excitable sales reps at the same time-- lots of fun and me with a business trip coming up! Don'tcha know how happy they are?!?!?!?
So things are . . . as they are.
I'm making a bag for me to carry around on Tuesday (with a couple of different pairs of shoes) in New York. Other than that, there's nothing exciting at all to fill you in on tonight. Hopefully, something will get cooking tomorrow!
Thanks for stopping by anyway and I hope you have a good evening!
Wednesday, May 12, 2004Another One
It was a wonderfully productive day today at work. Lee had things well in hand the last two days but, there are some historical things that I dealt with today with regard to long-term customers. There are advantages to having been with the company for 4-1/2 years!
This afternoon, I reviewed a customer contract and, once I was finished, the sales rep called and asked if he should've told them to use our paper-- well, duh!!! I figured he'd tried it and they rejected it but, no, he hadn't even tried. I redlined their document like crazy but, I had to because of the difference between our services and their expected delivery of the services. Its always fun to spring a RED contract on a customer!
Iraq
I try not to mention politics or political issues on my site-- I just don't like to get involved. I use my vote and its "power" to take care of things.
One thing that worries me, however, is the fact that I firmly believe we're heading into another Viet Nam. I really hate that . . . REALLY!!!
And on that unhappy note, I'm going to sign off-- I've been miserable at returning correspondences and, with my upcoming business travel, it isn't likely to improve any time soon.
Thanks for stopping by and have a good evening!
Tuesday, May 11, 2004Good Day
A successful shopping trip with Linda Rose today-- I picked up all of the fabric needed for the next 3 or 4 projects. I'm really set now so I'm excited.
Tonight is yoga and I'm excited about that, too-- should be tons-o-fun . . . with a little bit of work in for the short term.
More later or tomorrow night-- have a good one!
Monday, May 10, 2004A Nothing Sort of Day
Wonderfully lazy . . . Lucy and I slept in until 8:24am. Brian was sweet enough not to wake us up when he left the bed to get ready for work. We had a wonderful breakfast of eggs and strawberries and then we played on the computer for awhile. After that, I took my shower and headed off to get weighed and do a little shopping. (Tomorrow, I'm going to do a "Lot of Shopping" but that'll be discussed later.)
I went to my favorite quilt store (no link available-- what a loss!) in Crofton and bought the fabric for my other sister's wall-hanging. Susan, the missionary in Brazil, loves stained glass so . . . it makes sense to make her a stained glass window wall-hanging, doesn't it? I thought so, too.
I bought the fabric for that and came home and sewed up a storm finishing my yoga mat bag and the shavasana (I think that's the correct term) "blanket". I love it-- they're a beautiful set and yes, someday I'm sure I'll get around to taking pictures. In the interim, I'm ready for my class and that's what I was after.
Second Day Different from the First
Tomorrow, my friend, Linda Rose, and I will be going on a "fabric tour"-- her words, not mine-- to a couple of the stores up and about by Catonsville. I'm not sure what the names are but they are supposed to have massive discounts which, of course, I'll take ANY day of the week!
There are a couple of things that I need for some upcoming projects-- my friend, Debra is pregnant for the second time and I'm going to make this baby a quilt. (With her first baby, I made her an afghan.) There's another woman in our office that's also pregnant and due in July so I've got her give to work on first-- I just don't know what I'm going to do for her gift yet.
ANYWAY . . . I've gotta get going and get a few more things done before my weekly call to Karen.
Have a great evening!
