Archive of Marcia's Musings May 3-9, 2004Lazy Day For Me
After running around for the usual errands, I came home and watched a movie. I did the same yesterday, by the way-- I forgot to mention that . . . Yesterday, I watched "Somethings Gotta Give" and today I watched "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". Then, as yesterday, I layed down and Lucy and I took a two hour nap-- you know how I love to NAP!! In between there, I called my sister in Brazil and wished her a "Happy Mother's Day".
I worked on some of the ornament-painting again. I'm down to the black paint on the sleighs and wheels of the scooters. Not bad-- that means that I'm almost finished!! I sewed for about ten minutes earlier today but, it is now too hot to do that up here. Brian didn't turn the air conditioning on and the temperature outside is about 80-- not a good combination.
Anyway, I was going to call my friend, Pat but found out yesterday that her schedule is pretty full doing the Mother's Day thing with her son-- good choice. So, instead, I'll just wish her and all of the rest of you, a very Happy Mother's Day and hope you have a great one!
Saturday, May 8, 2004Where Have I Been?
Tuesday: I had a yoga class on Tuesday evening. I came home from that about 9pm and was just plain tired. I've never done yoga before but Lee is teaching the class so I thought I'd give it a try. I like it and Lee is a good instructor. All Tuesdays going forward are going to be spent there except for the week that she and I are traveling; she's going to make up that lost week at the end of the "term", I believe.
Wednesday: Jennifer from John's office in Atlanta was up covering for a vacationing admin in the Reston, VA, office soooo, of course, we all had to get together to attend a Happy Hour in her honor. There were about six of us from the office plus a former workmate who came out for it. We had a really good time laughing and talking about work and the people in her office that I support. Lots of fun!!
Thursday: Jennifer came over to our house and got the royal tour followed by dinner out on the Contracts Department with me and Brian. After dinner, we all came back and, while Brian went upstairs to bed, Jen and I sat outside and talked and talked and talked. She's a really good person and its nice that we get along so well!
Friday: The server ("Rocket") was down so I couldn't post and that brings me to today . . .
Today has been spent mostly painting ornaments which, I'm happy to say, I'm about 2/3 of the way finished with doing. The painting part isn't my favorite part-- the putting together part is my favorite part so I should be able to start that in the course of the next few days some time.
Days Off
It was a bit iffy but I have confirmed that I'm going to have Monday and Tuesday off this coming week. It was iffy because I've got two big contracts that are close to being ready to go into negotiation but, there appears to be time before we actually hit the phone lines with them. My plan right now is to work on my ornaments and towels-- the towels are very close to being finished-- and then, work on a bag for my yoga mat as well.
My friend, Linda Rose and I are also going to have a shopping excursion on Tuesday, I think. She may get bogged down and if so, I won't be bored-- trust me.
Thanks for your patience at hanging in there with me-- I've got a ton of email owed to people and I'm thinking, I'll be spending the night in front of the computer tonight.
Thanks for stopping by and, of course, have a good one!
Monday, May 3, 2004Change of Status News
Ya see, its like this: I do commercial contracts. I have always done commercial contracts. I like to do commercial contracts. I have never liked our government because it is way too bureaucratic and stupid, period.
Then, Judy leaves and I am doing federal contracts in addition to commercial contracts. I'm not happy with doing that because I just simply don't like them as much but I'll do them because there's no one else to do them. Then, we try to hire two new negotiators-- tough to do in this town unless we want someone who knows ... federal contracts.
Do you see the future here?? Yes, I told Lee today to look for someone to do the federal contracts and I would take a different second region: the Northeast, "New England", to be specific.
It makes sense: that way I can continue to do what I like (commercial contracts, in case you missed that above) and, we can get someone in who knows federal government and likes to work with them. I will still be back-up which means that it will still show up on my resume, should the need to job hunt in the future ever arise.
Actually, that's going to make it a lot easier-- we've only got to find one commercial person now, instead of two. Also, it keeps them from having to find a third commercial person in the fall when I would've "lost" the Southeast region as well. I really like working with John and wouldn't want to lose the rapport that I've built up with the guys so I'm really glad to do this change.
I think it'll be for the better but we'll see how it goes, eh? Yes, I'll keep you posted-- yeesh!!
The Big Apple
In a couple of weeks (two precisely, actually), Lee and I will be going to the Big Apple to meet with the General Counsel. We're taking the train up on Monday and having dinner with the GC on Monday evening. Then, on Tuesday, after one-on-ones with the GC and an analysts' meeting, we're going to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see the Matisse exhibit. And, if that weren't cool enough, we're holding reservations for dinner at (drumroll, please) the Tavern on the Green!!! How cool is that?!?!?!?
Yep, we're pretty excited about it-- looking forward to it, too. We'll return to reality on Wednesday after working in the office on Wednesday morning and taking the train back in the afternoon.
Well, that's enough excitement for me for one day. I'm having problems with my serger and I need it to finish the towels so, if you'll excuse me, I'll sign off for tonight and catch you tomorrow.
Have a good evening!
