Archive of Marcia's Musings October 11-17, 2004I am an AMATUER!!
Yesterday, before and after dropping off my niece, Natali, at the airport, Marli and I went to JoAnn's in Laurel, Maryland. Then, after dropping her off, we went to the JoAnn's in Columbia. After stopping for a bite to eat at a local restaurant, we went to the JoAnn's in Bowie.
Yes, folks, you counted correctly: we hit three (3) JoAnn's stores in one day!!! I have NEVER done that before in my life!!!
Marli makes me look like an amatuer at fabric shopping-- and Brian's glad!! She bought and bought and bought and bought fabric, fabric and more fabric!!!
Now, the "good news" is that she tells me she has an empty suitcase with her (making a total of 3) plus, I will probably be going to Brasil next month so I can bring her what she can't carry. The other bit of "good news" is that she's buying for other people, as well. Where she paid $2 and $3 per yard of fabric, she's going to sell it to her friends for $5 per yard and, yes, it is still a deal in Brasil!! American fabric there costs upwards of $15 per yard so they are STILL getting a bargain.
Okay, I admit it-- I took notes, trying to figure out how to emulate her but I don't think my conscience would let me try it for real. WOW!! I couldn't believe it!!
The only empty-ish room in our house is the dining room and it is fast filling up with bags of fabric and other things for Marli to bring back to Brasil with her. In other words, no, it isn't empty anymore!!
Today we're taking the day off and staying in to do some sewing and travel viewing-- she wants to come to the American Quilt Show in Paducah, Kentucky next year so we have to find the website and assorted related things like hotels, etc. Thank goodness!! I need a break!!
Anyway, take care and hopefully, you'll have a good day, too!
Tuesday, October 12, 2004Much To Do!!
Okay, backing up a bit, Natali, Brian and I have been having a wonderful visit! Sunday she ran our usual errands with us and after that, she and I went up to Annapolis to take a walk around the harbor and downtown area. Unfortunately, the harbor was closed off because of a boat show but we had a good time just trotting in and out of stores and touching stuff. The rest of the time, we've been relaxing and having lots of fun.
Sunday night, Brian and I went to the airport to pick up Marli; Natali fell asleep and we didn't have the heart to wake her up. Marli was pretty wiped out after more than 14 hours in airports and airplanes but we had a nice little chat on the way home, trying to keep her awake. When we got home, we brought her down to the bedroom suite in the basement and left her to her own devices and hopefully, to get some rest.
Marli did accomplish that and around 9-ish yesterday morning, the three of us girls had a breakfast of "pao de quiejo" which is a bread cheese ball-- nummy!! After that, we showered and met Lee (my manager) and an applicant for a job-- I needed to meet her before we gave her the official hire letter and, thankfully, I liked her alot. She'll work out really well, I'm sure.
Anyway, thereafter, Natali, Marli and I went to the mall in Bowie: Natali to look around the Barnes and Noble for a few hours and Marli and I to go to the newly-opened AC Moore store-- yes, she is a happy camper. So many things that she can't find in Brasil are here and much cheaper than they can be found for (if you look around long enough) in Brasil. Pretty much, we had the opposite shopping experience from when I was in Brasil-- how fun!! She was in her glory and was a very successful shopper, too!!
Brian took us out for Mexican food at night and the rest of the time, we just crashed and watched "CSI" episodes for the rest of the evening. Great fun is being had by all!!
Today, we'll leave to take Natali to the airport around 12 and then Marli and I will hit the JoAnn's store in Columbia-- I'm sure she'll be very successful there, too and boy, I will have fun watching her!!
This evening, we're going to meet Lauree from the office for dinner and then, we'll move on from there to continue shopping or go home. It'll be another busy day!!
Wednesday and Thursday are currently being planned as sewing and book copying days and then Friday, we're going to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to see some quilt shops and museums. What else are quilters to do on vacation?
I owe a bunch of people email: Pat, I'll get to you but its really busy these days!! Hope all is well!
Thanks for stopping by-- I appreciate the patronage. Have a good one, whatever you're doing!
