Not Much Happening

Other than being my wonderful mother-in-law's birthday, there isn't a lot happening today.  I did finish the quilt top for the baby blanket that I'm making and I also made a trip to JoAnn's-- big surprise-- to pick up some fabric to make a light-weight robe for myself for when I travel.  The hotel that my new company uses, doesn't provide robes so I'll have to bring one along with me.

We're watching the AFC Playoff game, of course.  Cousin Tom is doing really good, as uusual.

Have a good one, too.

More Gory Details

Eventually, I got a call from my manager and director yesterday; it took quite awhile but I got the calls.  Many and sundry emails were flying back-n-forth between myself and other friends that I've developed over the years-- some co-workers and some just friends.  Oh, well-- 9 days to go!!

Desperate Women

There is snow outside again-- YAYYYY!!!-- but I had to drive in it today.  Why?  Because with the snow that came on Wednesday, my hair appointment was rescheduled to today.  Myself and about 50 other women were apparently quite desperate to seek aide today, coming out in extremely inclement weather to receive beauty treatments.  It was pretty deeep (I dare not guess HOW deep!) when I came back but it only took 45 minutes . . . to drive what normally takes me 15 minutes.

Other than that and a little sewing, that's been my day in a nutshell.

Hope you have a good one, too!

Ah-Hah!!

There is a reason that I didn't put up a post last night: I couldn't without spilling the beans earlier than I wanted to spill them.

I have a new job-- I'll be leaving my current employer as of February 3, starting my new job on February 6.  Why?

I don't like to be micro managed (from the contracts department) and I can't work from home enough to suit me.  Okay, so the higher salary and bonus doesn't hurt either but it wasn't just for the money that I left.

John is not happy, needless to say.  I called him first thing this morning and explained what I was doing-- I don't "owe" him an explanation but I do owe him knowing before other people know.  He and the sales reps in the southeast have been fabulous to work with but they are only a fraction of what I do.  I like drafting and negotiating contracts-- period.  I don't like having to do other "goals" in the department, that are superfluous to the department and have no bearing on me except for taking time away from what I enjoy doing.

So far, management has been tight-lipped keeping responses to me on email, as opposed to calling me.  It should be interesting to watch this unfold.

New Job, New Training

Of course, this means another trip back to California next month but I'm okay with that.  It'll give me a chance to get to know my new manager and the company that I'll be working for with regard to their products and the way in which they negotiate contracts and deals.  I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Commute?

Did I fail to mention the commute?  Well, that's because there is NONE!! I will strictly be working from my home (with Lucy and Molly jumping up and down at the idea) with occasional trips to California and, eventually, Europe.  Oh, yeah, twist my arm!!

Through the years, I have become less and less enamored with driving in commute traffic.  In fact, the more I think about it, over the years, I have had a shorter and shorter commute.  Now, I have no commute so it'll definitely be something that I like.

Co-Workers?

I also failed to mention that I'll be working with my former manager as a peer: Judy.  She'll be here on the right coast for a few months but then, she and her husband and father will be moving back to California.  I'll continue to cover the east and Europe and she'll cover the west and whatever else lies out there.  Our director, Cecily, is cool-- I'd met her before the interview process started, at Judy's going away part in California, as a matter of fact.  I'm looking forward to working with her-- she has an easy-going kind of style that will be refreshing after being micro managed.

All in all, Brian and I are both happier with my decision.  That's part of the reason that I hadn't been posting regularly-- my stress coping with my job-- over the past few months.

More to come as things unfold-- stay tuned for more gory details!

Have a good day-- I know I will!

Its SNOWING!!!

Do you know HOW long I've been waiting for this?  I've been wanting to be snowed in since November!!  YAAYYYY, its finally here!!

Lee called in sick today so, at noon and after two inches had already fallen, I sent the other negotiators and myself off home.  Good idea!  It took me more than twice as long to get home as normal.  I had a hair appointment, trying to get away from doing it on Saturday, tonight but I've postponed that until later in the week.

Lucy likes to rub her face in the snow and Molly, much like Sally, just tries to find her way to the deck stairs again . . . usually only succeeding in slipping a bit before getting there.  Cute puppies!!

SNOW, WONDERFUL SNOW!!!

Yes, as many of you have already suspected, I am nuts.

Reading

By the way, I forgot to tell you that, while on my trip last week, I finally read the first in the series by Joanne Fluke, "Fudge Cupcake Murder".  In all of the other books that I've read, they talk about the first crime that the character, Hannah Swenson, solved but I'd never read it until now.  I also have finished the second in the series by Deborah Donnelly, "Died to Match" and loved it, of course!

Right now, I've decided to go ahead and read the next in Donna Andrews "Turing Hopper" series entitled "Access Denied".  Following that, I've got a bunch of the Rhys Bowen "Constable Evans" books to read-- I found all of them at used book store websites so I bought them all.  I can see re-reading these a bunch of times!

So that's it for now-- snow count is at about 8" although I'm bad at judging this stuff.  YAAYYY!!!!

Have a good evening!

Nothing Happening

It is extremely boring at work and even still, I am tired of course part of that could be jet lag.  I do believe I am ailing from a touch of it.

Ah, well-- tomorrow is another day.  Hope you have one, too.

I'm Back!!

California was fabulous!!  Monday, when we arrived it was sunny and warmish in temperature but it did rain Monday evening.  Tuesday was sunny and warm (which for San Francisco is rare) but we moved to the South Bay that evening so the rest of the time it didn't matter to us what San Francisco was doing.

Wednesday and Thursday were sunny but temperatures were cooling.  Pat drove me down to Sunnyvale (she works in San Francisco) and then talked further about staying longer.  During the day when I phoned her, she mentioned wanting me to stay an extra day so we could have more time together.  That didn't seem like too much to ask from a dear friend so I checked to make sure that my boss didn't have a problem with it and that my husband was okay with it.  The latter being more concerning than the former, of course.  Pat and I (and Nathan) had good visits on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday-- I certainly don't get to see enough of her when I'm there.

Saturday was uneventful as I flew home on the same flights (the numbers were changed to protect the guilty) and arrived at the same time.  It was soooooo good to see Brian's face in the crowd at the airport!!!  When Brian and I got home, Lucy and Molly were ecstatic to see me which is always a nice feeling.

Yesterday was spent lolly-gagging around-- I enjoyed that and I might do the same today.  I really need to do laundry but I'll have to spend some time thinking about whether or not I want to work that hard.

Thanks for stopping by while I was gone-- I appreciate you checking in on Brian.  Have a good day and a good week!
