How long has it been since I've written a post on a Sunday? Yes, I know-- a very long time and thus the heading on this one, eh?
Well, in the last few weeks, I've read the most depressing books. First, as I told you about during the week of July 4-10, there was Frederic Beigbeider's "Windows on the World" and then last week, I very nearly finished "Are You There Alone" by Suzanne O'Malley. Very well written so you ask, "Why 'very nearly finished'?"
Well, for one thing, I know how it ends-- sadly-- and the more I read about Andrea Yates, the more fed up with the medical system I became. Are you aware that after the murders were committed, to get her ready to stand trial, they had her on 15mgs of Haldol? The normal dosage of Haldol is 2mgs-- in medical "history" no one had ever needed more than that yet she required 15mgs to make her as close to normal as she came during the trial (and she wasn't even remotely "normal" during the trial!).
Yet, she was discharged from a hospital twice in the months before the murders and-- get this-- put through drug and alcohol rehabilitation day programs!!! The hospital that she went to didn't have the correct program for caring for her in an inpatient setting or an outpatient setting-- yet, they weren't willing to send her to a hospital that had the appropriate type of care because that would mean dollars out of their pockets.
Oh, man, that just pissed me off, ya know?
Okay, so I'll stop talking about that one but, you do see why I haven't talked about any books for awhile.
After reading that through Thursday evening, I decided on Friday that I needed something more "up" tempo, not that it would take a giant leap to get there. I read "The Rocky Road to Romance" which is one of Janet Evanovich's old books, re-written. Cute but silly and not much of a "mystery" but, it was certainly light reading! Much needed and more . . . enlightening.
Of course, I've finally started on the new "Harry Potter" book. I'll keep you posted on that and may end up reading that one only before I go to sleep, just so I can keep a mystery in the other hand during the evening.
Well, we'd better get started with the rest of our day-- have a good one!
Thursday, July 28, 2005Other than work . . .
. . . my most eventful event of the day was that Molly ran off this morning. When I let them out this morning before breakfast, she came right back-- never get between this dog and her food!! The second time she went out, she came right back because she's just that kinda good girl in the morning.
When I got home from working out, however, she knew she had some time to kill. While I put my breakfast dishes in the sink, she took off. Lucy came right back to the door when I called for them (I should've known there was something wrong-- it was like Lucy was tattling on Molly by coming when I called-- for a change!) but, no Molly!
Right then, I knew what had happened-- she'd somehow gotten out so I grabbed a handful of cookies and went out the front door.
I walked across the driveway (she always goes in the same direction-- toward the house with all of the dogs in the 'hood) and called her name with the word "Cookies" in the same sentence. Needless to say, she came galloping back toward me. I made her go thru the back gate which I promptly latched and locked and I went back through the front of the house.
Lucy, who had been waiting for us, of course got a cookie for not running away and, when I let the excited Molly back into the house (Mom, I went down there and I saw all of those dogs and they barked at me and I barked at them and I tried to get their food and then I heard you call me and tell me you'd give me a cookie and I came home!), I gave both girls a cookie and went back upstairs to go to work.
Yes, if Molly had a voice, she would soundjust like that!
Gotta go-- have a nice night!
Wednesday, July 27, 2005Hot, Hot, HOT!!!!
I realize that our thermometer is on the easterly side of the house where the sun is directly hitting it but, still, it says that the current temperature is 105F and, frankly, I don't think it is that far off from reality. Yeesh, it is HOT!!! I feel sorry for the dogs having to go out, even when they are the ones asking!
As you can imagine, Molly, the BLACK lab (you know, the one whose fur absorbs heat!!), goes out and does her business quickly rather than lingering, barking or patrolling like Lucy (the silly dog who thinks everything she sees, hears, smells or barks at belongs to her).
Lucy comes in absolutely drained and with an obvious sore throat (she goes right to the water bowl) but Molly gets let in and just smiles at me, gratefully, for opening the door.
The Fates
You know, sometimes you wonder about things-- how they happen and why they happen.
Several years back, I remember getting emails from John Doucette saying how he wished he was in a relationship like Brian and I. He thought it was so cool that we had met and fell in love via the web. At that time, I encouraged him to go on the web and put himself out there so that he, too, could find someone to complete him.
Luckily, he followed my advice and now he and his wife, Emma, have each other to brace themselves through their current trials. They are both in my prayers as they will both need spiritual and physical strength during the next months and years.
The Fates have brought them together for a reason and I am ever so happy that the Powers That Be have done so.
Please give them your good vibrations, happy thoughts, prayers and whatevers, too.
Sometimes life can be too trivial or not trivial enough and that about covers it for me today. Go out and have one, okay?
Tuesday, July 26, 2005Work, Work and More Work
Of course that's a good thing, isn't it? Being bored isn't good for me either . . . just wish I had time to clean up my office!!
Maybe more later or tomorrow-- have a good day!
Monday, July 25, 2005As If!!
I don't know if any of you watch my Stats or not but, I do just to see where I am during the month. Usually, my stats go up a little bit every month. I always like to see if there's a way that I can draw more people in each month but, this month, they are off the charts!! I've got over 500,000 page reads!!! Oh, please-- as if 500,000 people came to my site to read it! Right!! Can you say webcrawler?? I knew that you could!!
Other than that . . .
Brian and I spent a nice weekend together, laughing and loving, as usual. Just more concentrated because we took the time that we don't always take. It was nice because we could sit and play games (on our new PlayStation 2) and relax about it because he didn't have to do any gardening (since he'd mowed the lawns during the week) and there wasn't any housekeeping to do-- those girls from Merry Maids are really going to be helping us out!
Now its time to log in and start the work week. Take care and have a good one!
