Whoops!

Missed a day, didn't I?  Can't remember why I missed it other than I was busy puttering around here yesterday morning.  This-n-that-- you know how it goes.

936

My as yet unnamed serger and I attended a "get-to-know-you" session at the store where I bought it.  Wow-- this is going to be fun!  I learned a lot of what it can do and how much more it can do from my other serger.  Can't wait to keep moving on it and working with it!  So little time, so much to do!!

Sharp Right Hook

I started reading Frederic Beigbeder's "Windows on the World" the other day.  (You'll find that second link goes to what was the view from the windows as well as some interesting topics linked below.)  Definitely a departure from mysteries, especially since I know how it ends.

This book is intriguingly written although the concept is surreal-- we can't possibly know who was in the restaurant or what they were thinking.

I highly recommend it simply because it is written in a perspective that is not expected and yet, could be accurate.

Much to do today-- I'd better get to it.

Have a good day!

My Resource

For the mystery that I'm writing, I needed a police resource in the town where the muder series is going to be based.  After doing a LOT of explaining to the receptionists and secretaries (mostly swearing to them that I loved my husband and was not going to kill him or anyone else), I finally was given a contact for questions about investigations.  He (who shall remain nameless until such time as it is appropriate to decloak him) is a great guy and is very responsive when I ask him questions.

A few minutes ago, I called him and left a voicemail about my most recent question-- within a couple of minutes, I received a response on email.  That's great, isn't it?

The unfortunate part is that he's going to retire next month and probably won't want to be available for questions anymore-- at least, not on a free basis.  If I were published, I could pay him but, that's not the case so, I'll probably have him refer me to someone else in the department.

It's still really cool having this resource tho!

Other than that . . .

Things have been kinda slow and busy at the same time.  There are many sewing and craft things on my plate, to the point where I think I'm a little overwhelmed.  I was able to clear one thing yesterday: my sister, the teacher, asked me to write a blurb for a play that she's doing next year.  I fired that off to her yesterday so we'll see what comes of that.

Nothing much going on . . . just working and reading and sewing and writing and . . . have a good day!

Recuperating

I've spent the last few days recuperating from the previous few days.  Just because its a smaller company than my last employer, does not mean there's less work at the end of the quarter!  Those last two days were 12+ hours each day and that pretty much left me wound up with nowhere to go on Friday.  The girls and I did take a nap but, it wasn't until that night that I genuinely "caught up" on my rest.

After 12 hours of sleep, I felt a whole lot better on Saturday.  Most of the weekend was spent either reading, resting or sewing however, as can be expected after an end-o-quarter fest.  Thank goodness this was a four day weekend!  What'll I do at the end of next quarter?  I think I'll be driving 12 hours instead (but more on that another time) of napping or sleeping.

What I've Read

Over the course of the last few days, I've read Nancy J. Cohen's "Murder by Manicure" which is always a fun series.  Its written in third person so its also a little different from most of the mysteries I read.  Unfortunately, her protagonist (Marla Shore) has found a new "favorite phrase" that just makes me crazy-- "Bless my bones".  It was "said" by the main character way too many times and by about the tenth time, I was getting close to chucking the book.  Note to Cohen: Not a good thing to irritate the reading public.

Before I read that book, I read Sarah Strohmeyer's "Bubbles Ablaze".  As I mentioned late last week, this is a new series for me and, for the most part, I enjoyed it.  The ending (literally the last two chapters) wasn't very believable but it was still a good series.  Yesterday, I read Toni L.P. Kelner's "Wed and Buried" which was an enjoyable and fast (obviously) read.

Back to the grindstone for me-- have a good one!
