Archive of Marcia's Musings June 20-26, 2005Nothing To Report
I didn't post yesterday because there was nothing new to report. There still isn't because work is continuing in a fast paced manner. It is near the end of the quarter so there is much work to be accomplished.
Hope to have time over the weekend for lots of reading and some sewing and embroidery stuff.
Have a good one!
Wednesday, June 22, 2005So Much To Tell You!!
Okay, first of all, I cleaned my sewing room yesterday (well, really last night) for the first time in a long time. Why? Several reasons: 1) it really needed it, 2) I couldn't find Rose (more on that in a minute) and 3) Sergio was missing, too!!
Now, first off, it really needed it because I had made a mess pulling out ALLLLL of my rayon threads for embroidery work over the past two weeks. I just kept running and running and running designs, if you'll recall, but I never put anything back. Now that I'm finished with it, for the time being anyway, I went ahead and put all of that away.
What? Rose is missing? Well, actually, Rose was traded in on a second Designer 1. Viking has a newer model out (the Designer SE) but that's more than I want or need in a sewing machine. I really love working with the Designer One series so now I have DeOne I and DeOne II. The Twins. How fun!!
Yes, Sergio came up missing soon after I traded him in, too. I got quite a bit for the trade-in at the quilt shop/Viking dealer that I go to so I figured it was worth buying the new HuskyLock 936 serger. He is really big and computerized, too-- gotta think of a new name for him/her. Wanna help?
Mystery Update
I've been working on my mystery of course since that was the purpose of the workshop. Last week, I called the police department in Sunnyvale where I'm basing my series and asked about a contact to use for research. Yesterday I got a phone call from the department providing me with the name and phone number of the individual who will be my contact. I called him and left a voicemail.
Moments ago, I hung up the phone with him-- he called me back and we exchanged some information. I'm soooo excited!!! This is really getting off the ground now!!
Cleaning Up-- Again!
I'm cleaning up my office-- again. It seems that I get a rash of papers over the course of the week and spend most every Wednesday cleaning up, tossing out what isn't needed and sorting or filing the rest. I didn't do this as frequently when I worked in an office-office!! Yeesh!!!
I'd better get to it. Have a GREAT day!
Tuesday, June 21, 2005Memorial
The memorial service for Judy's sister will be tomorrow; I'll be in attendance, not as co-worker but as friend. It is really sad when someone so young leaves this earth.
Interesting
Its going to be difficult to get my work done today. The servers seem to be down at work. I'm able to log into email via my connection at my personal desktop but not from my work computer. It doesn't want to load my email.
That means that I know there isn't a problem with my connection at home and the problem must then be at the office. Oh, joy!
Work will definitely be slow today!
Have a good one!
Monday, June 20, 2005Solemn Day
My friend and co-worker, Judy, has flown back to Maryland, after having recently transferred back to California. The cause for her trip is not a good one-- her sister is extremely ill. She has Wagoner's Disease which isn't fatal unless you are a patient of Kaiser Permanente. (I won't link to it since they aren't going to pursue litigation--altho I would-- and I don't want to advertise for them since I have no respect for their abilities to care for anyone over the age of 10.) They misdiagnosed her for years and as a result, she has had major lung and heart damage.
Judy got the call on Friday that said her sister was in the hospital, possibly for the last time. Saturday and yesterday Judy called me with updates about her sister and it isn't looking good. I haven't heard from her today yet but I don't expect that when I do, it'll be good news.
I feel extremely sorrowful for Judy. She and her sister are very close. I've always been envious of their relationship since I don't have that kind of relationship with all of my siblings. I wrote an email to all of my siblings yesteray expressing remorse for where we've failed as a family and hopefully, for all of us to start mending fences-- we only have this life to live with each other and we won't get a second chance to make up for where our relationships have fallen by the wayside. I'll keep pushing to get through to them because I think it's important. Hopefully, they will think it's important, too.
Barnes Foundation
We went to the Barnes Foundation to see the paintings owned by Dr. Albert Barnes. Many (read 180!) Renoir paintings as well as many Cezanne and Matisse. By the time we were through, we had had enough of the pinks/roses/reds of Renoir. We did purchase a print-- one in blues-- for the library and we'll ge that frame for inclusion there.
I'd better get to work. Have a good day.
