Archive of Marcia's Musings March 7-13, 2005Slight Update
It may be due to the number of times I went up-n-down the stairs Friday but, this morning when I awoke, it was because my knees hurt. "Hmmm", she said to herself, which is better than saying "Yeowwww!" I'm going to have to take my generic Aleve first thing in the morning or I'm not going to be able to make it through working out. Not a problem since I take my Aciphex right away in the morning, too.
Yesterday was eaten by getting my hair done but at least I can see again-- definitely a worthwhile event! Today will be eaten by our usual errands and I think Brian wants to get some of the wood we're going to need to build the raise beds for our garden. I am hoping he doesn't do much in the way of assembly yet since he's pretty sore from yesterday's activities.
I guess that's all for today-- didja notice . . . I have actually now posted for SEVEN days in a row!!!
That's astonishing, isn't it? Yeah, right-- thanks! Take care and have a good day!
Saturday, March 12, 2005Science Project?
With the changing of jobs comes the changing of health insurance. Alas, the new insurance doesn't want to approve my use of Celebrex until I've seen my surgeon which, according to his office, is near impossible for two or three months.
SOOOO, I tried the generic form of "Aleve" yesterday . . . it worked BETTER than Celebrex!!! Talk about surprised!! My knees hurt less than they usually did during the course of the day when I was on Celebrex!!
I have to admit, however, that this morning, walking up the stairs after getting my coffee (my "usual commute", don'tcha know) almost killed my knees. I think I may need to take the Aleve before I go to work out so that it doesn't hurt too badly during the work-out.
Over-Use
It is entirely possible that my knees hurt more on this morning's first walk up the stairs because yesterday, I went up and down the stairs 20 or 30 times. Before I worked from home, I would go downstairs once in the morning for breakfast, up the stairs once my breakfast was made, and downstairs after I was dressed and ready to walk out the door for work. Then I would go upstairs to change clothes, and either stay there to sew or come downstairs to read and that was it-- I would stay downstairs until I went to bed.
As an example, yesterday, I did four loads of laundry, which requires the obvious trips up and down to accommodate changing loads but there's also the occasional trip to check to see if the dryer is still running. Then, the dogs have to go outside and you can only ignore Molly's nose-arm-flipping trick for so long. Then, I went out to lunch with friends from my old job. Then, I would go downstairs to refill my water glass. When Brian called to tell me he was coming home, I decided I should clean up the dishes in the sink so he can find the kitchen.
I'm telling you, there were at least 20 (and I'm thinking more like 30) trips up-n-down the stairs!! That helps my metabolism/diet/work-out situation a lot so, I'm not complaining, believe me however, that's why I'm thinking that I "Over-Used" my knees yesterday!!
Today . . .
None of the usual errands are being done today but, I will be getting my hair colored and cut. The last time I went in for a "treatment", it was snowing and they were closing the Salon so I couldn't get my hair cut-- there just wasn't enough time. If I don't get my bangs cut soon, I'm just gonna shave my head!!! Man, they are buggin' me to no end!!!
Other than that, it'll be a normal Saturday with sewing and napping to abound, hopefully. Take care and have a good one, too!
Friday, March 11, 2005Plan = Together
Don'tcha just love it when a plan comes together? After going to the center 3 days in a row, really early, I decided to go later today to see how the crowd was for the "second shift" of people working out. It was much nicer.
As I just tried to explain to Brian, the way that Curves works is that you work on a "station" and then, a recording tells you to move to the next station. A station will either be a piece of work-out equipment or a "recovery pad" and they are placed almost in alternating positions.
At the 6 o'clock arrival, almost every recovery pad or machine was occupied but, arriving at 6:20-6:25, some of the machines are vacant and by 6:45, half of the machines are vacant. The nice thing about the number of vacancies is that you don't have to move QUICKLY to the next station because someone is following you in the last position to get onto the piece of equipment you're on prior to being told to move.
With someone directly behind me, I felt like I was being "chased" around the equipment and I didn't like that because it was almost a hassle if I didn't get positioned correctly the moment I sat or stood at a machine. It takes a few seconds to set the proper position but if someone is following you closely, they want the piece of equipment that you're on when they're coming off the recovery pad. Does this make sense?
Anyway, I like being in the second group and so did The Girls. It gave me time to feed them before I left and they, of course, like getting their food.
All Better
In between conference calls and drafting documents, I have time (some days) to stitch out embroidery designs. Yesterday was one of those days but when I went to turn on DeOne, he didn't want to go so, I had to run him over to the quilt shop to get fixed-- thankfully, the repairman was there yesterday! He's already fixed up and ready for real work on the weekend!
I guess that's it for today-- thanks for stopping by! Have a good day and weekend, if you don't stop back.
Thursday, March 10, 2005Nothing Much
I can't think of one thing that is news-worthy this morning. I'm probably not awake yet. I didn't go and work out-- I'm tired from getting up every morning to work out. I decided to take today off and then, my body reminded me that it isn't quite right. The "attacks" I get (infrequently now) in/with my stomach are here today and I'm not feeling well. Next month, I get the tests necessary to diagnose the problem so I'm actually looking forward to them.
Dinner Guests
In case you were one of those people who thinks I'm the only one who has friends over (and Brian doesn't), you're wrong. Last night, Brian's friends Ben and Kat came over for dinner. We had a nice time talking and laughing, as usual.
I guess I did pretty good at putting up a post since I had nothing to talk about in the first place! Oh, well . . . count on a woman, right?
Have a good day!
Wednesday, March 9, 2005Too Much Coffee
That could be my only excuse for the picture to the left. Obviously, Lucy, as a whole, is not a blurry dog but, at the time of this picture, a furry dog. Unlike the picture to the right, in which she has been shaved to the skin (practically) and sporting a lovely little bow around her neck. What a dear! Needless to say, she is coming inside when called, at least slightly better than before her grooming.
Miscellany
-I'm going to start going to Curves at 6:30 as the first group has moved through by that time and the crowd is a little thinner. Okay, so it also gives me some extra sleep time-- what a shock!
-I will be going to Atlanta next month. Unfortunately, without making a stop in Dallas (thus, flying past Atlanta), there are no more direct flights unless I take an airline other than American.
-I greatly prefer American to any other airline for a number of reasons, in addition to the 100,000+ miles we've got on American's frequent flyer program. I'll get over it but, I hate to use another airline.
-My new business cards arrived the other day-- I really did change jobs! COOL!!!!
-I need to work on my office today-- we've got company coming for dinner and I think Brian would prefer that my office was picked up a bit. There is a flurry of paper on all of the desktop surfaces.
That about wraps it for today-- take care and have a good one!
Tuesday, March 8, 2005Things I Noticed Last Night
Well, I had slightly more energy after working out in the morning and my muscles weren't as sore BUT, I was still tired. Of course, I was always tired on Mondays at my other job, too so it could just be Monday-itis, or at least, that's what I'm going to call it.
Working out at 6 in the morning is interesting. The people at the club are definitely a different mix than the group at the club in the afternoon. There are retirees who want to get on with the rest of their day and, of course, the business folk who also want to get on with the rest of their day. The employee that works at the ungodly hour is a fun, hyper-enthusiastic individual which is good because she livens the place up. That's a good thing.
Lucy Spa Day
Today, Lucy is finally going to get alllllll of that hair cut!! YEAH!! She was a muddy mess yesterday-- she likes to go in the opposite direction when I call her in so one time yesterday, I let her stay out. BIG mistake!!! She came in with dirt on all of her feet AND on her belly-- yes, she desperately needs a cut. I'll take a photo of her before she leaves today and one when she gets back so you can get the before and after effect. It'll be a huge improvement though, that much I can tell you.
More Travel
There appears to be more travel involved with this job which I am okay with, in the long run (the miles get put on my account and that adds up to free trips for us!). I may have to go to Memphis this week or next and I'll definitely have to go to either Atlanta or Raleigh next month. Both will be just one or two day trips, maybe not even a stay-over so that'll be good. I am enjoying the job a lot (and working from home) so I am definitely okay with a little travel.
Guess that's all for today-- I owe my friend, Pat a letter so I'm going to get started on that! Have a good day!
Monday, March 7, 2005The Scoop
I had really expected my friend from Atlanta (the office admin at my former company) to only stay until 10-ish, give or take. As it turns out, we also had Lauree come over and, frankly, we started having too much fun. Jen ended up spending the night and having breakfast with us at lunch; so much for the plan of getting some email-writing in at the end of Saturday. Oh, well, a good time was had by all (and then some!).
New Routine
This morning, I dressed at 5:50AM (yes, in the morning!) and went to work out. I thought I'd try this time of day to do so to see if it was any easier to cope with the exertion of the work-out. Obviously, I'm hoping I won't notice it as much as I do at night-- I'd like to be able to have a life after work, ya know?
As always, however, when there are new things involving "Mommy" (me) leaving early without feeding the dogs before I left, Lucy got a little tummy upset. She'll get used to the new schedule but it will take her awhile, as usual. Hopefully, she'll have a better day tomorrow.
I think that's all for now-- yes, I'm going to post here in the mornings for awhile, as long as I'm changing things up for a bit. We'll see how it goes...
Take care and have a good day!
