Archive of Marcia's Musings May 9-15, 2005Further Update
After our bird-injuring incident yesterday morning, Molly had a few more opportunities to scare up more prey but was unsuccessful. Thank goodness! I got to thinking about what I would do if she actually caught/killed something-- Yes, I know-- I shudder to think of that, too! Yikes!!
Doggie Day Spa Day
Lucy had her bi-monthly Doggie Day Spa Day yesterday. She came out unusually cute and adorable so I took a ton of pictures-- her site's been updated and, yes, I've still got 'em (the bows) and I will use them again-- she likes to be prissy!
Molly was cute a couple of days ago so I took a few pictures of her and updated her site as well. It sure is nice having my own camera in my office to work on stuff!
Quilting and more quilting this weekend along with an errand up to Linda Rose's apartment tomorrow. We'll have a good one so you should have a good weekend, too!
Friday, May 13, 2005Sadly Enough
I don't have anything to talk about this morning... that seems odd, doesn't it? Marcia = Speechless? Never!!
Well, let's see:
-its laundry day here so I'll be doing laundry.
-last night we went to the library to get some of the books that were discussed in our class on Wednesday evening.Well, all that means is that I'm not getting into enough trouble-- I'll try to work on that today and get back to you about it over the weekend, okay?
Take care and have a good day!
Not five minutes after I published the above and something REALLY major happened!!! I always take the dogs outside after I've eaten my breakfast for a nice long sit/hunt/relax time. Lucy usually finds someone to chase down (there's always the one or two joggers or dog-walkers that are trying to walk in her yard outside the fence). Molly usually sticks pretty close to me and gets me to pet her or rub the fur on her lower back with my knuckles or nails.
Today, however, Molly decided she wanted to hunt-- she found and HURT a bird!!!! It was freaked and she was jumping for joy! She GOT one!!! While she was living up to her name, I was worried about the bird. It did take off again but it didn't do a very good job of flying. It eventually ended up in one of our neighbors' lawns hopefully to recuperate. If not, as Brian said, its hawk-food.
Yeesh!! Nary a dull moment around here, I guess.
Good hunting to you, from Molly!!
Thursday, May 12, 2005Loved it!! Loved it!! Loved it!!
The class, of course. It was fabulous and the instructor is great. Inspired me even more and yes, I am writing a mystery novel. I had an idea a few months back and am nurturing it to fruition. Noreen Wald is the instructor and while she wanders a bit while she's talking, all of the information is excellent and very useful. I can see that this is going to be a very worthwhile class. I'm pumped!!
By The Way
Have I ever mentioned a little quirk about my company computer to you? It has a pre-programmed "shut-off" time at 20 minutes where it automatically locks up. Apparently, someone at some point, left their computer up and available and someone (unbeknownst to me) stole a couple of the company's secrets. As a result, we all have this lock on our computers now. Its a real pain in the tookus, needless to say but I have found a way around it: playing streaming radio on it!
I hook into the radio station that Brian and I listened to in the Bay Area and leave it running all day. KFOG has a great play list and the only annoying disc jockey that they have doesn't come on until LONG after I sign off for the day-- thank heavens for time zones! No, the sound isn't in stereo and its kinda tinny but, hey, when you're deaf in one ear, there is no such thing as stereo and tinny is better than nothing.
Other than that, we're getting the bar-b-que checked out today-- Brian's been having some problems and, I've just got work to do so, I'd better get to it.
Have a GREAT day!
Wednesday, May 11, 2005Finished!
I finished reading "Owls" last night-- it was hilarious!! I believe it to be Donna Andrews' best effort so far-- talk about twists and turns!! There's one phrase that keeps echoing in my head: "Meg", the lead character, is holding a massive yard sale during which the murder of a yard-sale shopper takes place. One of the other attendees comes to the end of her bargain shopping and asks Meg for the price of an item. Although it is clearly marked with the price, Meg merely states it matter-of-factly whereupon the shopper asks for the price to be cut in half-- Meg complies by breaking the item in half and saying she'll give her the bigger half of the two for the lesser price.
It loses a lot in translation but it is WELL written-- I still laugh when I think about that scene and, if it is that memorable, it is WELLLLLLL written! I can't wait to have her sign my book! I'm going to remind her of that scene and how much I enjoyed it!!
Sandwich??
Actually, Brian and I were the bread and who knows who was the meat-- we both went to the dentist this morning. Brian at 7am and me at 9am-- such fun!! The dentist made the remark about "having a husband and wife sandwich" in appointments-- he thought it was most funny. Brian's got more work to do but I'll let him tell you about that another time-- my work is done and, of course, that's all that matters to me! Man, how I dread going to the dentist!!
Other than that, I await in anxious anticipation our class tonight-- I'm really looking forward to it and will, of course, give you my feedback tomorrow.
Have a good day in the meantime!
Tuesday, May 10, 2005Resident Associate
Tomorrow, Brian and I start our "class" on mystery writing at the Smithsonian. Today, I'll spend some time researching the location of the class and how to get there. I'm particularly excited about it because one of my favorite authors is an instructor in the class: Donna Andrews. Her part of the instruction doesn't start for a few weeks so, in the meantime, I'm reading "Owls Well that Ends Well"-- her latest release. I will bring it with me but I won't bring along all of her books that I own-- I think it would be a bit excessive to ask her to sign ALLLL of them!
Other than that, there's nothing new and exciting going on-- that's a good thing sometimes, you know?
Have a good one!
Monday, May 9, 2005Catch-Up Again
No, I didn't post over the weekend-- frankly, I was almost toooooo busy! Saturday, as I mentioned, I went to the Sheep and Wool Festival with Linda Rose and we had a lot of fun. I picked up some yarn for making myself an off-white shawl and she was scouting prices. She was going back the next day with her mother so, she comparison shopped with me to determine where she would buy her stuff the next day. We had a lot of fun, at any rate. We're calling our outings "The New Adventures of Linda Rose and Marcia"-- I'm already planning our next big thing: Lancaster County, PA.
Saturday evening, Brian and I went to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant and shopping for a wedding gift for the reception the next day. Believe it or not, after almost 7 years of marriage, Brian still makes me laugh about silly things-- I like that.
Sunday we ran our errands and went to the reception in the afternoon. It was nice and Mary and Steve are obviously happy-- I'm glad for her since she, like me, has had a mighty hard row to hoe in this life.
We came home and I watched "Phantom of the Opera"-- I'm not sure I understand it but at least we own it so I can watch it more often and figure it out. I had lined up 5 new movies in the player but didn't feel like watching anymore after that one. I came upstairs and did some computer work and read for a bit before going to sleep.
Today is work, obviously, and if I get lucky, I'll get a little bit of sewing time in, too. I hope you have a good week and a wonderful day!
