Deep Blue Sea

Brian and I attended the play, Deep Blue Sea, with Blythe Danner (Gwynneth Paltrow's Mom) and Edward Herman (Richie Rich's Dad) in New York City in April of 1998.

At the time, I was working for Sun Microsystems and they were concerned with the cost contraints of people flying back from NYC to San Francisco without staying over night on a Saturday.  As a result, they agreed to reimburse for meals and entertainment expenses if I agreed to stay over the Saturday night following a four-day meeting.  I agreed but only because for the cost of a round-trip airline ticket for Brian, we would get to spend his birthday weekend (which I would've otherwise missed) in New York City.

We bought tickets and, following a delicious meal at an Italian restaurant, we went to the theatre.  I was taken aback at the casual atmosphere that was present-- many people were tourists and, apparently, not afraid to show it.  Being in the Big City, you'd've thought they'd have the decency to dress the part.  In Brian's suit, he was very over-dressed by comparison to "Floyd from Omaha" who wore his grotesquely plaid Bermuda shorts.

The play, however, was wonderfully enjoyable-- it had only been on Broadway for three weeks prior to our viewing it and although there were a few lines that were a bit shakily recited, it was an exciting evening.

Oh, to be in a Broadway theatre!
