One of Those Days
Slept 9 hours last night, so I do appear to be "catching up" on my sleep-- it is possible. We went to Costco this morning and found most everything on our list. And then, when we came home, we stopped at Safeway for the perishable 3-day supply of fruit and vegetables. After that, I took another nap. I am feeling better though-- I don't think my cold is sticking around or at least, it isn't coming in as badly as it could. Brian seems to have the sniffles but, he won't let me give him any Tavist-D and I haven't seen him taking his vitamins-- horses . . . think horses.
Anyway, our Finnish neighbors across the way brought us an invitation for another huge sale for associates at J C Penney-- they gave us one of these earlier in the spring as well but their timing was better then. We bought luggage at Costco so we don't need it now-- I'm not patient enough to exchange anything so we'll just keep the stuff we have now. There are a few things that I need so I'll be jumping out for awhile tonight.
Speaking of the Finnish neighbors, Christina (the wife in the couple) has her mother and sister visiting-- they arrived last week one day. It is 90F here today while in Helsinki, its 21F. Needless to say, they are HOT-- temperature and heat are definitely a relative thing!
Nothing much to report-- tomorrow is bound to be crazy as it is end-o-month (again, already!!). I'll update you then on the events of the rest of the day and what I get lucky and find tonight on sale-- 40% off is a LOT.
Have a good evening!
Saturday, July 29, 2000Whassup?
There really isn't much to report for today . . . I slept 10 hours last night and, when I got up, I went to get my nails and pedicure done. When I came home from that, I took a nap. Yeah, I'm getting caught up on my sleep but, it doesn't leave much for me to tell YOU about, does it? Oh, well, you needed a reading break anyway, huh?
A Little Something
Well, I did do a couple of things: I've got a recipe that Barbara Thompson sent added to her page. Remember how she's always telling us about making shepherd's pie for dinner? Well, she's finally given up the recipe for it-- sounds really good, too!
Then, on to my sister's website: I suggested that people who support them may want to hear more frequently than once a month about their progress so they started a journal page. It'll probably just be a weekly journal but it is a journal.
**********
Other than that . . . Brian made dinner for tonight (and two or three other nights) last night by whipping up his pasta sauce! It smelled delish at the time that he was making . . . garlic wafting through the apartment . . . I'll let you know how it tasted later.
Have a good night!
FRIDAY, July 28, 2000Yippee!!!
I made it!! It is FRIDAY which means I get to spend my weekend sleeping-- yes, I probably will, actually!! I have a cold coming on, thanks to the drastic temperatures in Phoenix (110F outside and 70F inside) and being tired all week. I have started my Tavist-D and zinc and echinacea and Vitamin C-- I will not be getting sick before we go to Michigan!!
Outing Pictures
We now have a photo album started at work for our quarterly outings-- the pictures here are my contribution: The one on the left pretty much says it all: "Do not get between me and an artichoke" and the one on the right is fairly vocal as well: "NO pictures!!" There are a couple of others but I think you get the idea.
Weekend Plans?
Oh, I suppose you think I'm not going to spend the weekend sleeping? Yeah, right!
I had mentioned earlier in the week that we were planning to have some friends over for dinner but, due to their stressed-out lives (She works at a start-up and He works at not letting his ex-wife "get to him"), we decided to postpone the dinner until after we get back from Michigan. They need their time together and Brian needs his time on the computer-- he's gotta get ahead a bit on the book (if that's possible) in order to be able to take time off while we're in Michigan.
We've got a trip to Costco for supplies and we're looking for a big suitcase-- the one we've got has a zipper that's of questionable use to us (at least, I can't seem to make it work!). Other than that and nails and sleeping for me, we're going to be taking it easy this weekend I think.
I've got some programming for the Netwidows Recipe Page (Barbara's sent in a recipe for her "Shepherd's Pie"!)to do and I'm going to be doing a major renovation to my sister's website-- they are adding a journal to their website which we think will give their supporters a better view of their life and what they are supporting. You'll have to drop by and let me know what you think.
I guess that's all for tonight . . . have a great evening and we'll catch you at some point along the way . . .
THURSDAY, July 27, 2000Have some Cheese?
Man, I am a whiner this week, aren't I? You must admit that this is not typical behavior for me . . . well, you should admit that-- that would be the truth. I'm really tired and, no matter what I do, I can't seem to get over it. On Saturday, I have to get my nails done but I can sleep in; we may be having some friends over for dinner on Saturday night but that would be about it for our activities this weekend. Since next weekend is when we go to Michigan, I want to be "caught up" on my sleep by then-- if we can!! Of course, that'll be a moot point once we're there but its worth a shot!
So, yes, it is finally a Thursday and I will quit whining about being tired after I've gotten caught up on all of my sleep-- probably, okay? I have to admit that rather than going for a bike ride today, I took a nap-- I'm just too tired!!
Bicycle Repaired?
You bet!! It is repaired and in fine working order, I should add. I picked it up from SportMart on my way home from work so I know that it works . . . I'm just too tired to use it tonight!
A few details . . .
. . . from last weekend that I forgot to mention:
1) While Keri and I were in the bar at my hotel having a drink, she got to meet several of the people I work with which was fun. For me, it was doubly fun because they got to meet one of my friends and she got to meet some of the people I work with on a day-to-day basis (including the director of my department!).
2) The AVP whose region I'm assigned to received the auspicous honor of "AVP of the Quarter"-- Yes, I am taking at least partial credit for that one!
and from present day . . .
When I went to the doctor yesterday, she said she could tell that I was losing weight and riding my bicycle! It has been my experience that it takes a lot for a doctor say anything about a patient's physical status when its not directly under their guidance. (YMMV)
**********
I've got a few pieces of clothing to iron yet tonight-- I have a lot of cotton stuff!! I'll work on that during "Whose Line is it Anyway?" but, for the most part, I'm gonna lay low again!
Wednesday (?), July 26, 2000That's All?!?!?
Only "Hump Day"??? Man, it feels like a Friday, doesn't it? Well, we now know that I am only cut out for 7-4, M-F, don't we? Yeesh, this is tough!! I had a doctor appointment today and went for a blood test immediately following that; I ran into a guy from my office at the lab and he had a similar complaint: this is really hard on people!!!
Some of my readers thought I was confused yesterday, even going so far as to send emails pointing out that I had the wrong day on my header. Then they realized that it was meant as a confused thought process and, knowing me, completely understood!
Damsel in Distress
Brian got to be my Hero again: I noticed that I was having a hard time pedaling my bicycle tonight and looked down and backward to see the tire wobbling all over the place! That really alarmed me so I stopped and saw it not running "true" as I spun the tire/wheel. I called Brian and had him come and get me from where I was; I didn't dare ride the bike and, as he so subtly pointed out later, it never occurred to me to walk the distance to the apartment.
We went from where he picked me up to the place where we bought the bicycle; coincidentally, the Huffy repair guy will be in the store tomorrow and they will repair it free of charge. At the time that we spoke with the store manager, I didn't have the receipt with me but it is 31 days from when we bought the bicycle. In order for it to be "free", she needed to know that it was 30 days but when we explained that we went right from where he picked me up to the store, she "excused" it and won't be charging us for the service. Hopefully, it'll be ready tomorrow . . . cross your fingers!
Plans for Tonight?
Well, I've got a ton of ironing to do so that'll about cover that after dinner time. I have so much fun, don't I? Yeah, right! Stir fry for dinner again . . . it is one of our favorite things to eat and it is good for my diet!
Have a good evening!
Thursday, July 25, 2000Its Thursday, Right?
Okay, well, now that we have that established . . . what do you mean its not Thursday? It has to be Thursday-- please tell me I'm getting a weekend SOON!!! Oh, ARGH!! I've got how long to go to get to Saturday? Wanna know how to make a grown woman cry: Make her work more than 8 days in a row!!
Are you sure its not Thursday?
'Nuf Said
The pace has still not picked up as much as I'd expected since being back from the sales conference. That's okay so long as it doesn't all hit on August 4!
Speaking of which, plans are afoot and just about finalized, too-- my sisters, a niece, a cousin and I are going to Shipsewana, Indiana for a day of shopping for old and new and used at the flea market. Should be tons-o-fun! My parents used to go there all the time so I suggested it upon recommendation from my niece Faye, as something we could do for "just us girls". Brian will more than likely remain behind in the hotel room but, don't feel sorry for him yet: He'll have his computer and, I'm sure, a solid 8 hours to work on the book! I'm so glad we take "vacations", aren't you?
Ahhhh!!!
Okay, if I'm going to stress because its not Thursday, then I should ride my bike, right? I didn't feel well yesterday and, because of my trip to Phoenix last week, I didn't get to ride but one or two nights last week. SOOOO, tonight, I did my "Basic 7" and 80 crunches and all is well with the world again. An amazing thing the way that the stress gets cycled away, isn't it? By the time I was working on the 5th mile, I was singing "Bobby McGee" out loud!! Pity the people that I was riding by and, oh, the expression on that Labrador Retriever as I passed!! That was a site to behold!!
Chores
Albert, the housekeeper, was here today and laundry is in process. Tomorrow night I'll iron while I watch "How To" night on PBS but it looks like I'm going to get an easy night tonight. Kewl!!
Have a good one yourself!
Monday, July 24, 2000Short Update . . . Miscellaneous Stuff
I would say its "jet lag" but Phoenix and Sunnyvale are in the same time zone . . . I just feel lousy today. I came home from work at 2:30pm feeling like I had a fever so I took a couple of acetaminophen and slept for about an hour. Its hot (everything is relative, remember?) here today so Brian probably won't eat dinner until 9 or so anyway so I'm gonna just lay off and not go anywhere or do anything tonight.
The flight that I was supposed to catch last night (at 7pm) was cancelled by American Airlines; if I had not gotten on stand-by yesterday afternoon, I would not have gotten home yesterday!! There were more than 70 people from my company that were booked on that flight and none of them know why it was cancelled. Interesting way for American to do business, eh? Oh, well-- I got home so I shouldn't complain.
Sorry so short tonight . . . I'll hopefully feel better tomorrow.
