My Goodness!!
As I just commented to my friend, Pat: Wasn't last week Christmas? This time is going wayyyyyy too fast!!! Here we are near the end of the first six months-- where did those first five months go???? Yikes!!
To Do List Accomplished!
I slept this afternoon. Yep, that was it: the only "Requirement" for the day!!
I also wanted to do some things but if those didn't happen, I was okay with that-- wanting to do things is not the same thing as having them on a "To Do" list.
Last night I finished up the tablecloth that I was making for Brian and me. I call it "Happy California Cows". It is fabric that I bought at a chain fabric store in California (so it reminds me of California) and there are cows on it. Makes sense, eh? I'll be able to put pictures of it up tomorrow night probably (Brian took the pictures this afternoon but hasn't downloaded them yet).
You'll notice that it is a simple pattern which is for a reason: this fall, I'm going to have a quilting class at the house and this is the subject pattern that I'll be using for that class. Among other reasons, most people want to be out on weekends, not sewing or quilting in the summer months so I'm going to wait until September or October for the class. Anyway, pictures to follow on that.
For now, I'm going to go back to my next two projects: one is a cover for the bar-b-que grill (the one that we bought disintegrated with the winter weather) and a special quilting project that I'll show you in the end, of course.

Saturday, May 31, 2003Not to DO
Of the things that were on my to-do list at the start of the day, only one has been accomplished-- not a good record here at all. I did my running around this morning and then, came home and did a moment's worth of sewing, checked my email, had lunch and . . . a nap. Of course, that had to be there. After that, I started another load of laundry and went upstairs to do some more sewing. After another trip down to get some lay-out help from the dining room table, I went back up and was about to start sewing when the power went out. No, we had paid our electric bill but the wind had caused some tree branches to make a transformer blow. (Okay, so I'm not the technical one in the house and there may actually a bigger, more technology-related scenario to that but Brian will tell you about it tomorrow, okay?)
Anyway, I went back downstairs to read my book and, it performed its usual magic on me: I fell asleep. I napped until nearly 6pm-- maybe I should move that to my "To Do" list every weekend? At least I'd feel like I accomplished something that way!!

Friday, May 30, 2003What a GREAT Anniversary Gift!!!
First off, thanks to all of you who have written to wish us well on our anniversary. That is really nice and makes us feel good to hear from so many friends!!
You know what we got for a present today? SUNSHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been sunny alllllllllllll day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, is it nice to see it!!!!!
End of month was busy as usual but, other than that, there isn't much to report except that I convinced Brian to go out for dinner tonight! (Yeah!) As a result, I've gotta go downstairs and feed Sally so I'm going to sign off tonight, after another short post-- sorry!!

Thursday, May 29, 2003Its "THAT" Time Again
This month seems to have gone really fast, doesn't it? So has the year and I suppose that's a good thing-- time dragging can be such a . . . drag. By the same token, time going too fast can feel like you're missing something. For me, I think I'd rather have time slow down so that I can savor the moments and the time that I have with my life partner, Brian.
Tomorrow, the 30th of May, is our Fifth Wedding Anniversary.
These have been the best five years of my life . . . he is the best husband and partner I could ever hope to spend the rest of my life with and believe me, I hope and pray to do so every second of every day. I am thankful to him for being my helper, my nurse, my brain, my friend, my companion, my guide, my lover, my soul-- my everything.
The only reason that I would want to live these last five years over is so that I could slow them down and fully enjoy more of the time that we have had together. We've been on many adventures and have many more in our future-- our future is bright but I sure hope it doesn't go as fast as our past has gone!!!
And to think: This is just the beginning of growing old together-- I can hardly wait!!

Wednesday, May 28, 2003It was a Dark and Rainy MONTH!!!
If the forecast goes according to the way it is expected to go, we will have had 26 days in May that had preciptation of some sort falling. Yes, that's right-- days where there wasn't any rain and that doesn't necessarily mean it actually was sunny!!!
Man, this is weird-- I'm beginning to believe that we live near Washington State NOT Washington, D.C.!!!!
The vegetables that we planted in the backyard are turning yellow from lack of sunlight! What isn't turning yellow is turning red from too much rain!!! Yikes-- is there no end to this???
Knee Pain
Yes, indeedy-- I have more knee pain these days. We (well, really "I") found out that my back/hip is connected to my knee. I didn't know that until yesterday. I found it out the hard way, of course: Amy (the physical therapist) went to "massage" my back and my "IT Tendon" started to throb. This is generally NOT a good sign! Part of my back problems are caused by the connection-- literally-- between it and my knee and the over-compensation that I do as a default when walking because of the knee surgery. My knee cap is out of alignment as well which I already knew but isn't being helped by any of this back/hip thing.
Oh, well, I won't get time to heal from this before the next thing happens, I'm sure!

Quilt guild tonight and I'll be sharing my nephew's tablecloth and then, bringing it to work tomorrow as well. After that, I'm going to start looking for a box to send it to my sister in Michigan for the shower. That isn't until August so I do have plenty of time.On to feed Sally-- have a great evening!
Tuesday, May 27, 2003Truth Be Told
Yes, indeedy-- we were visited by Bob and Barbara Thompson again this weekend. We/I didn't lie about who I was shopping with-- I just didn't say names. I'll give you a recap of the weekend's events now that may make a little more sense with the blanks filled in:
Friday: Barbara and I went to the Amish Market in Annapolis. When I had written about it in my journal back in November, Barbara mentioned that she wanted to go the next time that they were in town. Obviously, this was it-- the time to go. We had a lot of fun and walked every inch of the market-- having left no stone or item untasted (well barely untasted), we stopped for lunch in the restaurant inside of the market and then came on home.
Saturday: On Saturday morning, Barbara and I headed out to Annapolis to catch a mystery book store she had heard about and wanted to stop into to see what they had to offer. Unfortunately, they were closed but there was a quilt shop in the same block that I stopped into and, of course, got into too much trouble with the bolts of fabric. Oy!!
We left Annapolis and went on to Baltimore where we were lucky enough to find the bookstore that she had heard of there to be open and operating. Yeah!! Gazillions of dollars later, we were on our way, after retrieving the parking ticket from our windshield! No, not kidding: we hadn't put any additional money in the meter and it ran out while we were in the store!! Oh, well-- this can be handled!
Sunday: Barbara and I left the house fairly early (10:30-ish) but found that we were too early for the antique stores in Old Bowie. As a result, we headed back to the other side of town to find the Wal-Mart so that I could stock up on the requisite amount of country CDs. Then, we went back over to Old Bowie and hit one store before my knee gave up the ghost-- this is no fun, let me tell you!! We came on home and had a good time resting and relaxing the rest of the weekend.
So, now that the blanks are filled in, don't you know a whole lot more? I thought so-- makes it easier to understand the little shopping trips, doesn't it? The only thing is that the next time that the Thompsons take time off from their sites, everyone's going to assume that they're here in Bowie. Even if they're not going to come up here for a visit, they're going to need to take a weekend off just to keep people suspicious from time-to-time.
We had a wonderful time, as usual-- it is always good to get together with them and their dogs. Malcolm is such a troublemaker and Duncan is soooo handsome. Kerry? He's just cute!! I called him my little "Kerr Bear" cuz he's such a cutie!! It was good to see all of them and hopefully, we'll see them again really soon!!
Quilting and More Quilting
Whenever I go to the meetings, I don't have anything to show so I'm sure that they don't really believe that I quilt-- now, I can change that perception!! Finally, I've got something to bring to the Quilt Guild meeting as a "show-n-tell"!! I've finished my nephew's tablecloth so I can bring that to the meeting tomorrow night. I'll have pictures of that up later this week but, in the meantime, go on over and look at Pat's Quilt. I updated that site last night so if you haven't gotten there, go check it out-- it is really pretty!!
I've got a few things to finish up before I tuck in early for a read on one of my new books (from the Baltimore excursion). Take care and have a great evening!
Monday, May 26, 2003Happy Memorial Day
Obviously, this day makes me remember things about my childhood and, of course, the passing of both of my parents. I try not to dwell on it but I still think about it: did someone put a flag on Dad's grave stone? I remember when Mom got upset because they didn't. I remember when, as children, we would go with my parents and my aunts and uncles to "decorate" the grave of my maternal grandparents. They don't allow that at the cemetary of my parents so even if I were in Michigan, there wouldn't be anything I could do except remember where 420 is-- none of my other siblings can seem to find it. Mom took me there-- I remember that, too-- so that's why I know where it is located.
Interesting what we remember, eh?
Yes, Finally!!!
The pictures of the "How To" of Pat's quilt have been added to the quilting page. Go-- read and view-- it is interesting, I think. I love putting these things together so that must speak volumes, as well.
I'm finished with the quilt/tablecloth for Joel's fiancee's shower present, too. Photos to come of that one soon, as well.
Now, I've got to get to bed-- unfortunately, the fun is over and its time to call it a work week.
