No post today-- work went well but I am tired and my knees?? Oh, yeah-- you mean the watermelons that join the upper and lower parts of my legs!! They're killing me, needless to say.
More tomorrow if I get home early enough to post something.
Have a good evening/night/day!
Saturday, March 1, 2003I Stand Corrected
Well, okay-- I'm sitting as I type this, but you get my drift! But, I feel silly cuz I got the flower name wrong in last night's post about the potted bulbs that Pat & Nathan sent to me for my birthday. It is not a "hibiscus" as I inaccurately stated but a hyacinth as evidenced by this link. This is what I have growing downstairs in a pot along with some beautiful daffodils and tulips and crocuses (is that how it is spelled or is it "croci" when there's more than one?).
All I know is that the fragrance is immense and their beauty wondrous-- really neat!!
Struggling Away
After getting the Sunday running around done along with a healthy nap, I began to sew on the table cloth for my nephew's wedding shower present. Unfortunately, it is not cooperating-- I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I can't get the sizing right on the flannel lining to save myself any work. I keep having to rip it out and add fabric to it but, the good news is that that's why I bought the joiner foot so that helps. I just wish I didn't have to get so good at using it!!
At any rate, I was going to play with the embroidery arm tonight but decided instead to play with getting that thing right. At this point, its getting to be a quest, something like the quilt for our niece, Alex, was last fall!!
Oldies but Goodies
As we were walking through the grocery store, I asked Brian about dinner for tonight: he responded that he wanted the zucchini casserole "you used to make". Wow! I hadn't realized how long it had been!!
So that's what we had for dinner and there's leftovers for another couple of meals later in the week for me at work, too. That's cool-- I love it and it is low fat!
So, here I go-- back to conquering this tablecloth! Wish me luck, 'kay? Thanks! Have a great evening!!
Friday, February 28, 2003Another One Down
Where do the months go? I think there's a month-fairy who actually steals the days off the calendar so that we can never get them back to re-do. It just isn't fair, is it?
Ah, well-- there's always tomorrow . . . looming on the horizon, awaiting the next . . . whatever.
. . . I mentioned a delivery from Pat & Nathan? Well, that was this: a pot of bulbs that had been forced and then, when opened by me, warmed to sprouting and blooming and blossoming. Talk about fragrance!! I know its the hibiscus-- it is really fragrant!! I love this basket-- its so bright and cheery, even after the sun has gone down!
Thanks again, Pat & Nathan-- a wonderful reminder of good friends and warmer weather!!
Speaking of the Weather
Yes, I was home today-- I got pretty freaked the other day. I couldn't see where this would be any fun today so I stayed home. Of course, we all planned for this contingency and took our laptops home last night. This time, everything went according to plan when logging in and I had a fairly busy day! That's always a good thing, of course-- I hate being bored!
In fact, I got started at about 7:15 this morning: I started up the computer, sat down to log in and get onto the mail system and didn't stop until nearly 8:30 when I got dressed. I finally took my shower at 3:30 this afternoon!! Yes, I logged off of my phone a little early but I left my email up until 5 and, even went back in at 6 to send one more email that had been spurred on by a thought that stuck in my craw.
Ready!!
Now, I'm ready for a weekend! Of course, I really only get one day but it is still going to be fun on Sunday. I'll work from 12-6 this Sunday and 10-6 the next. I'm going to be LEARNING for a long time, from the looks of all of their educational materials. Its pretty amazing, really.
Anyway, so I'm outta here. As the end of the month draws nigh, I have to thank you for stopping by: my stats indicate as many pages this SHORT month as were read last month. That speaks volumes and don't think I don't appreciate it-- I do, a great deal!
Take care and have a great evening and weekend, whatever you do!
Thursday, February 27, 2003Lots to Learn
But it will be fun. I actually left early since it was snowing-- again-- and only ended up putting in around 2 hours tonight. The drive home went well but longer than usual. The slipperiest spot was our driveway-- its on a slight hill which makes it difficult to go up from a near stop at the end of the driveway.
Other than that, however, I am tired so I'm going to call it a night. It looks like I'll be working from home again tomorrow. There's enough snow out there that I know the roads will be like they were on Wednesday-- slippery!!
Take care and have a great evening/night!
Wednesday, February 26, 2003Well, I tried!!
Really, I did!! I tried going into the office today but my usual 10 minute commute was taking upwards of 45 minutes. Then, I went over a rise in the highway on US50 Westbound and lo and behold, there was an accident-- a BIG accident. Several firetrucks and ambulances and police cars. Eastbound cars were only getting through a few at a time. Since I hadn't felt well when I woke up and my intention was only to be in the office for a couple of hours, I had a feeling that I wouldn't be getting home before 4pm. As a result, I quickly exited the highway missing the accident by one exit and getting back on US50 Eastbound, headed for home.
I dialed Brian after having just hung up with Lee telling her that I was on my way into the office and would be there in about 15 minutes when I had gone over that rise and saw the accident. I told him what I was doing and dictated her phone number to him to have him call her back so that I could concentrate on the very slick highway surface I had encountered. The "TCS" light went on several times while driving and one "stopping" situation wasn't, if you get my drift. I was already pretty freaked and having seen that accident, convinced that I was doing the right thing by going home.
So, I came home and tried to work from home.
I was able to use our webmail accounts but using my laptop proved fruitless for the first few hours. Seems that somehow our dial-up access has a way of resetting itself and they (our IS department) hasn't figured out how or why. I got a good response to my requests for assistance though so I was able to get on through my laptop eventually.
More on the Supremes . . .
Here's the pictures from our travels yesterday:
Well, that should give you enough to digest for awhile. Don't forget I won't be here tomorrow night until late, if at all.
Take care and have a great evening!
Tuesday, February 25, 2003Pics To Follow . . .
As much as it is possible, we had a great time visiting The Supremes today. I wish we could've spent more time there but that wasn't possible considering the time that we got there.
After brunching at Union Station, we got to the Supreme Court Building by 11 but had to wait in line through security, equivalent to that of airports these days, until 11:30. Then we had to wait in line to get into the session; there was a school group there so we were only allowed five minutes to listen to the session. BUT, after the session ended (and the Justices left the room, along with the plaintiff and defendant) we got an earful on how to ensure that we got to sit in more of the session the next time that we come into town to see them. And there will be another visit!
On to the Mayflower for a lunch of munchies (appetizers) and gabbing. Lots of fun, of course and three hours later, we went on home by way of the Metro (a local subway system). I was actually home by 5pm and, as can be imagined, after that much walking, my knee was killing me but Brian helped me get the laundry downstairs. I got that sorted and started and laid down to rest my knee for awhile. That helped a lot.
Now, it is time to sort my vitamins for the week and get ready for another day at the grindstone. I'll have the pictures up tomorrow night-- only took a few inside of Union Station and outside of the Supreme Court but you'll be able to see that we had a nice time and great weather.
I must bid you adieu, however-- a few things to do before bedtime. Take care and have a great evening.
Monday, February 24, 2003The Supremes
Guess where we (my co-workers and I) are going tomorrow? The Supreme Court of these-here United States!!! It is our quarterly outing and we're going to go to brunch at the Centre Cafe in Union Station first and then on to the Supreme Court. They are hearing cases in the afternoon and we're hoping to get seats-- since there's nothing particularly controversial, it shouldn't be a problem right now. Then, after session is finished, we're going to go to The Mayflower Hotel (yes, as in "The Mayflower Madame") for a few drinks and some munchies. Should be a nice day and certainly interesting!
Starting Point
I went over to the store this afternoon after work to get set up on my schedule (Monday, Thursday and Sunday) and get some background information together. Training will officially start on Thursday but it was fun to get started on it. Yes, I will have "Busy Hands" (as Barbara Thompson put it) but, it will keep me out of trouble! Of course, it will help a great deal if we don't do stupid things like staying up until after midnight watching the Grammys!! Not a smart thing!! I will be going to sleep early tonight!!
Speaking of which, I'm going to get a few things done before I go back downstairs to watch a little television and unwind.
Thanks for stopping by-- take care of yourself. Have a good night!
