A Sad Day

It is a sad day when we lose seven souls who were the pinnacle of their lives and their careers.  My thoughts and prayers go to the families and friends who were dear to the astronauts who lost their lives yesterday.

Truth Be Told

Okay, so its five years later and things are going to be set straighter a bit. Finally.  My family knows the truth and most of our friends know the truth but, Brian's family doesn't but we're not going to hide it anymore because . . . well, its been five years and we're pretty sure that they'd get over it if they had to do so.

What am I talking about?  Well, let's put the timelines in order here, okay?  Remember the "A Romantic Fairy Tale" story that I wrote?  And then there's the "Rest of the History"?  Well, its like this: Yesterday we went to the District and spent the night in a hotel to celebrate . . . the fifth anniversary of Our First Date.  Yes, that's right: February 1, 1998 was the first date that Brian and I met on for coffee and a walk through the San Jose Museum of Art and Kelly Park and Downtown San Jose.  We talked those endless hours on the phone from February 1 through February 4 and he came over for our second date and we're still on that one.  He never left the apartment and moved in while I was in Brazil.  Within a matter of four days, we fell madly in love with each other.  Four months later, we were married.

<Sigh>  It still makes me smile to think about him on his white horse, sweeping me off my feet like he did.  We're pretty sure that five years later, neither of us has caught our breath.

We've never told his family because we were pretty sure that they'd be upset that we moved so fast but, when you know its right, it is right and it makes sense to move that fast.  Every day with Brian, I thank my lucky stars and the Lord above that I met him.  I wished I'd met him earlier in life but, then, I probably wouldn't have been ready for such a wonderful relationship.  Thank you, sweetie-- for being my love and loving me.

On that note . . .

I'm off to create a trip report for you.  We had lots of fun walking around yesterday afternoon (until my knee made it not too much fun for me).  We saw much of the "National Mall" area and took a lot of pictures so I'll get that ready for publishing tomorrow night and I'll have that linked for the rest of the week and following in Meanderings.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening!

Happy February!!

Already!!  Where does the time go?  Oh, yeah-- it went into the past month, didn't it?

Well, this morning, we're going to be heading down to the District.  Because we're not going to be home until . . . whenever, we brought Sally over to Ebony's house this morning.  That way "Auntie Lee" can handle the Care and Feeding of Sally Ann Bilbrey while we are absent.  Upon entering their house, Sally and Ebony began to do "The Happy Dance"-- they had missed each other!!  How cute is that?  Lee didn't know what it was that they were doing but she could tell that they were truly happy to see each other.  Sally barely noticed that I left and probably still hasn't realized it.

We'll pick up Sally tomorrow but Auntie Lee wanted a chance to take the two of them for a walk in the woods together so it won't be until the afternoon that we pick her up.  I think its interesting how quickly Sally and Ebony have become attached to each other and their relationship really seems like brother and sister.  Dogs are interesting, aren't they?

Still Looking . . .

Don't forget: I'm available for hire upon two weeks notice.  Vast, expanses of experience after having been trained in Silicon Valley so if you're in need of a professional contract negotiator, feel free to call on me.

I've still got a job or at least a means of support but it isn't what I want-- I want to be able to negotiate contracts.  That's my life's work and, believe it or not, its what I enjoy doing.  I don't like having my hands tied and my sales reps left hanging in the wind.

Don't get me started . . .

Anyway, we're off to have a nice day-- pictures and more tomorrow at some point.  Have a great morning, afternoon, evening and night!

It's Official!!

If you're located in Maryland within about a 30-50 mile radius of Bowie, Maryland, and if you're interested in hiring a Silicon Valley-trained Contract Negotiation Manager, send me an email today!!  Don't wait-- don't tarry!!  I've got to have a knee surgery (probably) but I can either put that off until next year (with the help of Vioxx) or I can get that done first.  Either way, applications are in process and the search is on!!

(Any tips on agencies that headhunt for my type of position in the area would also be appreciated.)

Going to Have Fun!!

Yes, indeedy!  Brian and I are going to have fun this weekend.  We're going into the District-- rain or shine-- and we're gonna have some fun!!  My knee will handle walking around for awhile and when it quits, we'll rest it.

Until that time . . .

I'm going to have some fun sewing tonight-- I've got some stuff in the works so that I've got hand-work to do if and when I have the knee surgery. In fact, I've gotta get to it--

Have a great evening!

Final Stages

I had the MRI today-- tons-o-fun, of course.  Try holding a knee that hurts completely still for 40 minutes!!  Yeesh!!  That hurts!!  Why does that hurt so much?  Is it because of the injury itself or is it because I have to hold it still???  Anyway, I won't have the results back from that until next Thursday so . . . when we know, you'll know.

Adding Insult to Injury

(I wasn't going to mention this but, I decided I would-- maybe I'll get lucky and Brian won't read my page for a change: it could happen!!) I drove from Annapolis where the Anne Arundel Medical Center is (across the street is the Lesly & Pat Sajak Pavillion) and drove into the parking lot at work.  I was wearing my Skechers which have great traction and being very careful about walking across the parking lot.  Then, I put my right foot forward and was about to put my left foot forward but found that my right foot was still moving-- Not Good!  I watched myself in slow motion sliding and going down onto some "Black Ice" in the parking lot.  I did it so slowly that it didn't hurt (except my dignity).  I "walked" on my knees to the edge of the ice so that I could get to firmer ground to stand up on without sliding again.  A man walking by told me he'd never seen anyone fall so gracefully.  Gee, thanks-- I think!

I called the management office and finally got a body on the third phone number that I was referred to on their recordings.  (I was not pleased by that!)  I threatened action if it happened to me (or anyone else) again but they needed to salt the parking lot.  I think they did because things were thawed when we left the office.  Considering that it was snowing, it had to be the salt that melted stuff, right?  I hope so-- I would like to think that they learn their lessons, don't you?

Fun Stuff

I'd forgotten that about a month ago I bought some fleece fabric.  I've been wanting a hat/scarf combination but the ones that I see in the stores have really short scarf parts so they keep coming untied or unflung over the shoulder.  I don't like that so I made myself one last night-- it came out really nicely!  I wore it today and it is perfect for my purposes!!  So I never got to any quilting but I still sewed and had a good time doing it.  That's what counts.

*****
Brian's out at a Linux Users Group meeting here in Maryland someplace-- I'm sure he'll have tons-o-fun, too.  In the meantime, I'm going to take a shower and watch some television-- I've got my usual "Thursday-Tireds" going so I'm going to veg and watch CSI.

Have a great evening and night-- take care.

Know What I Mean?

I woke up with "that feeling" today-- the one where I feel like I'm supposed to be somewhere tonight but can't remember where?  I'm either supposed to be somewhere or doing something or something!!  Man, I hate that!!  If I'm supposed to be doing something with whoever-you-are tonight-- call me and remind me, okay?  Yeesh!!

Outta Here!!

I finally remembered to bring Faye's afghan with me to work today.  I shipped it from my office but, that's after forgetting to take it to work with me yesterday.  At least her patience will pay off for her tomorrow-- finally!!

Not Good

By the way, the reason that I've been shy about speaking about my work lately is that things are changing . . . the process and the way that we do things.  I don't particularly like it but I'm trying to work with it.  But, because it isn't good, it makes it tempting to look elsewhere for sanity.  We'll see-- it may not be worth that much.  Things (and the dust) have to settle before we know how its all going to work out and I'm sure that it will.

*****
Well, I'm going to see a sewing machine about a block or two tonight.  Big surprise, eh?  Yeah, I know-- I hate being predictable, too.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great evening!

Interesting Searches

No, I'm not going to list them but, I have to say that I think its terribly interesting that "contract negotiator resume" or "contract manager resume" have some of the highest search hits on my site.  The thing that is most interesting is the email that is generated by those hits: I've had a lot of interest in reviewing my "real" resume since the document I keep online isn't complete (due to fake names).  It never hurts to network or compare theories with folks-- I've learned alot that way over the years.  Interesting though, eh?

No News

Other than that, however, I'm afraid that it has been a slow news day.  That isn't all bad except if you're reading this post-- it does, however, make writing it easier.  ;>)

I'm just about finished with the blocks on the next quilt that I'm making.  After that, I'm thinking of working on some smaller projects, i.e., small wall hangings for the silent auction at the quilt show in March.  Never a dull moment around here!!

That's all for tonight-- sorry so short, really but maybe tomorrow will bring more news!!  Have a great evening!

Catching Up

Yes, I know-- you're going to be extremely surprised but it appears that I am finally getting around to getting organized on my website.  The archive page for 2003 is finally set up and I'm working on catching up the quilting page.  Thankfully, Sally hasn't felt like writing lately-- I just don't have time to post any pictures for her today!!

Two Towers

Today, for a change, Brian and I went to see The Lord of The Rings: Two Towers.  Excellent!!  Very well done!!  I'm really glad that we have the 4-DVD set (I gave it to Brian for Christmas) because we were able to get background on the "How to's" of the making of it which, when tied to the story, makes it easier to feel like I'm understanding the story.

And Of Course . . .

You know that there was some sewing in the day some place and, of course, there was-- first thing this morning, I sewed for about two hours.  I really enjoy this way too much!!

By The Way

Faye's afghan is finished-- I've got it posted on the Quilting Page with the other two and here are a couple of pictures of it, too.  It looks pink in one but it is ecru if anything.  I'm sure she'll like-- her mother is, however, threatening to "steal" it upon delivery.  No, no!!  After I finish the other two, I'll make one for her but-- NO NO!!!!

Okay, back to work on the website for me!!  Have a great, productive evening like me!!
