No Good!!
No matter how much wood I knocked in, it apparently didn't do me any good: I've got Brian's cold. It was so kind of him to share-- again, wasn't it? Never call him "selfish"!! I started pounding down the echinacea and zinc when I got home from my business trip in an effort to avoid it. I ran out of zinc on Thursday however, and neglected to go out and get some-- big mistake.
Sorry there wasn't a post until (after 10pmPDT) now but, at least you understand why. It was 80 degrees here and I was happily crocheting under an afghan (its gotten that big) although I was still a bit chilled so I closed the window behind me. Yes, I am definitely sick but, I can't do anything about not going to work tomorrow so I'm just gonna go with it.
Oh, well-- hope you had a great day today and have a nice evening, night and tomorrow!!
Saturday, April 13, 2002Nuttin' Much
This has been a quiet day here at the Bilbrey Belfry-- I went out for a little while to get my hair done but otherwise, we've been dozing and relaxing the way that we each enjoy most: me quilting and Brian computing. Sally is, of course, sleeping and snoring and, well, there's this huge pile of sawdust behind my sewing table, that's how I know!! The only thing that I did today that even remotely sounded like work was signing the checks for paying bills (which I actually wrote on Thursday evening) and, of course, the inevitable tax forms and checks-- no, sorry, we live in a California economy, okay, and we can't afford to buy a house so we end up paying more taxes in addition to what has been withheld from our payrolls and no, do NOT make me go down this path again!!! ARGH!!!
Anyway, essentially it has been an uneventful day and, despite a dinner invitation with our friends, Jan and Scott, it will probably be a quiet evening as well.
I'll be back to let you know if anything exciting happens-- have a nice evening!
Friday, April 12, 2002Okay, I found it!!
I don't know why but I've been having a problem with lost days lately. I can't explain it. Hmm, I'll have to work on that, eh?
Thursday wasn't lost so much as busy! I had two meetings during the day, the first meeting was a 2-1/2 planning meeting for the second meeting which only lasted 1-1/2 hours. Well, yes, you can do the math-- there goes half my day already, huh? Then there was the regular work that I tried to do in between those meetings. I had a document that I was modifying from the end of last quarter and just kept running out of time. I worked on it during my flights last week but, now was crunch time to getting it out to the customer. Well, with four hours of meetings and everybody and their brother interrupting me to ask questions, that wasn't going to happen BUT, we won't go there right now.
The finishing of that document did, however, happen today-- I stayed behind from the quarterly outing and finished that document and finished a bunch of other stuff that was on my desk, as well. The quarterly outing was a walking tour of Carmel-- they (my co-workers) called a couple of times for help on dealing with stuff from their people out in the field but, they did not gloat at the fact that they were "goofing off" while I worked. That's a good thing since, with the condition of my knee still not being very good, I couldn't have gone anyway. The fact that the document needed to be finished was just one more incentive for me to stay behind. Oh, well, there will be other quarterly outings, eh?
Free-Motion, Schmee-Motion!!
Well, we now know something that I didn't just automatically pick up with quilting: I am not good at Free-Motion. That was the class that I took last night and, it is a good thing that I took a class in it. Since I understand the principles and concepts of what it is supposed to look like and how it is to be done, I think it will be okay once I have more time to practice and the proper platform on my sewing machine (Brian's going to make one for me) but, it did not fall as easily into my hands like other parts of quilting have done. I'm going to keep practicing so that I can end up in the Quilter's Hall of Fame (just like Carnegie Hall) but, it isn't easy!!
*******
Wow, if that's all I've got to "report", maybe its a good thing that I didn't post last night, eh? Hmmm . . . yep, that's it-- at least for now.
Thanks for coming by and, as always, have a nice evening, night, morning and/or day!!
Thursday, April 11, 2002The Lost Day
That about sums that up, doesn't it?
Wednesday, April 10, 2002Day? What Day?
A very busy day, indeed-- in fact, it was one of those days that was so busy that you don't remember the details just that it was a blur of "busy".
Sorry that this is short but, my computer has been acting up, I've got my sewing machine to pack up for tomorrow's class and its almost bedtime. I'm extremely tired so I'll be packing it in a little early tonight.
Thanks for your patience and hopefully, more tomorrow night. Have a nice night!
Tuesday, April 9, 2002Hard to believe, eh, Cutie?
Well, five months ago today was the day that Sally came to live with us! Hard to believe its been that long and that she's only lived here for five months. Seems like a lot longer. It is so much fun to see her sweet little face shining out at us-- it is no wonder that one of her nicknames is "Sally Sunshine". She and I had a little nap again today-- she's good for about the first 45 minutes or so-- then she starts trying to push me off the sofa. Quite annoying but still endearing in her own cute little way. There are a couple of more new pictures over on her website, too.
Challenges Ahead
Well, its like this: I've finally found a quilt that appears to be a little intimidating to me!! It has diamonds in it and is a flower basket block. I'm having so much fun cutting out the diamonds-- not-- that I can hardly wait to move on to the rest of the triangles, etc. Besides having the flower basket blocks, it has everything on point which is another style I haven't done before-- this is definitely going to be a challenge and one I'm looking forward to, admittedly!!
Back to Work Tomorrow . . .
Bummer!! Well, someday we'll be independently wealthy, right? I've gotta get back to the office-- its been over a week since I was there!! That means that I've got 10 days worth of work to get done in three days-- oh, yeah, that sounds like fun!!
My department is supposed to be having an outing on Friday but, it is a walking outing so I don't think, unless my knee improves a whole bunch, that I'll be participating in that little exercise. It would've been kinda neat to do, too, but whenever I walk too much, it feels like someone cut my leg in half UNDER the skin!! Really strange, needless to say!!
We finished the last of the errands that were needing to get finished: a Costco run and a trip to the bank and post office. I tried to make this a shorter day for Brian since he still isn't feeling very well. I went to the sewing store (to get a darning foot for my class tomorrow night) early this morning and then came back to get him for the Costco/post office run. After I dropped him off to pack up the meat, I went out to the bank to deposit a couple of checks that we kept forgetting.
So, with that, I guess I'll make myself ready to go back to work-- have a nice evening!
Monday, April 8, 2002Busy Day!!
We had a really busy day today-- lots of stuff to do and still to get done tomorrow. Okay, so first off, I went to the "other" quilting store that's close to our house. I don't go to this one very often and I'm not sure why but I guess it has to do with familiarity. I bought several fabrics suitable for making some Christmas gifts (all were on clearance-- much cheaper!) and the yarn for tying the two quilts that I have to tie. Both "Just Clowning Around" and "Denim Dreams" are going to be tied; Clowning is going to have some stitching but mostly its going to be tied while the other one, "Denim Dreams" is going to be completely tied. (New techniques with each quilt, remember!) After I left that quilt shop, I went to my usual quilting store but, couldn't find anything there that I had to have so I went on to my doctor appointment.
Full physical today for the annual work-up. I did the blood work last week before I left on my trip but, unfortunately, the lab didn't run the lipids so I have no idea what my cholesterol levels are-- yet. They think they can still run the tests but if not, I may have to have that re-done-- oh, joy and lucky me!! I am, of course, the picture of health, including my thyroid!! Yes, that's a first: I've got technically, an above-average performance out of my thyroid but I've still got all of the symptoms-- don't know-- don't get it-- these are the times that I wish I had a medical degree!! Everything else checks out, however, so that's a good thing.
After leaving the doctor's office, I came home and picked up Brian so that we could make our bi-annual trip to Wal-Mart. I bought some more of the basting spray that I like so much there along with some fabric (of course!) for supplementing a quilt project I have and a new quilt project-- one for us!! Yes, I know-- its weird that I haven't made one for us yet, isn't it?
On our way back to Sunnyvale (that was in Palo Alto), we stopped at the grocery store to drop off a prescription and then, on to Borders' books where Brian had a gift card to use. He bought a book that he wanted (which is the point, right?) and then we moved on to Sunnyvale Town Center to pick up Brian's leather jacket. (The store that did the replacement doesn't have a website but if you need something altered, mended, re-lined or whatever, let me know and I'll give you her name and contact info-- she does WONDERFUL work!!) When I brought it in a few weeks ago, I decided that this was going to be his birthday present since I can't think of anything else to get him-- cheating, I know but it works for me, okay? ;>)
After all of that was done, we came home!! I've been boxing up the quilts that were being sent to our friends in Canada . . . Landon's birthday is in May and Danielle's is in September. I figure they can both open them but, if Danielle doesn't remember what we got her for her birthday when it comes around in September, we'll send her to her bedroom to think about it-- I'm pretty sure she'll remember then!! I'm now quilting one of the wall-hangings that has been lurking around before I start on any more Christmas gifts. I need to get some of the loose ends tied up a bit here!
A little less busy??
Hopefully, tomorrow will be a little less busy: I've got to go to a local quilting shop to pick up a special foot for my sewing machine and then, the Costco run. I believe that's all that's on the agenda, until late afternoon when I go to Weight Watchers. Since I haven't been to the meeting since three weeks ago, I think it'll end up being cheaper for me to re-join rather than just pay catch up fees!! We'll see-- I'm not worried about any possible weight gain that may have happened while traveling on business-- that's pretty much inevitable, I think!!
Anyway, thanks for coming by and have a nice evening!!
